Batting first, the Heat lost their opener, Joe Burns, for a poor score, but Luke Pomersbach and Craig Kieswetter put on a 40-run stand for the second wicket. Ben McDermott added 30 off 26 at No.5 to help take the Heat to a competitive 7 for 129.
The Strikers' reply did not start too promisingly as they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals throughout. The only stand worth mentioning was the 44-run partnership between Nathan Reardon and Tim Ludeman.
Otherwise tight bowling from the Heat bowlers, particularly Gannon who plucked three late wickets, helped dismiss the Strikers for a paltry 97. Gannon finished as the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 11.
