full outside off, misses another heave.
Hurricanes vs Stars, 23rd Match at Hobart, BBL, Jan 02 2021 - Ball by Ball Commentary
8.35 pm Stars have now lost three straight, two of them in improbable fashion. Maxwell had two matches in his hands, but concedes 20 runs in an over at the death with the ball in one game and today throws away his wicket in another with the Stars comfortably in front. Hurricanes get an injection of energy from the arrival of Lamichhane to take two wickets in the chase. So many options for Man of the Match with the ball. Boland's three wickets were crucial, arguably sparked the fightback by dismissing Pooran. Ellis was phenomenal with his economy and wickets taking 2 for 11 in four overs as well. Either of those two would be my pick ahead of Malan for his first innings half-century. Hurricanes had a below par total and the bowlers fought back to win this game for them in a complete team effort.
Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat are underway in the second game of today's BBL doubleheader. That's all from this match though. Thanks for following along. Take care!
slower ball lands good length on middle, Stanlake way out in front of a heave to the leg side but the ball bounces over the stumps.
full on the stumps, flicks this through the leg side.
full toss at knee height on middle, edges this out behind point for a single.
good length ball follows Zahir backing away from leg stump, can't flick this away.
full on the stumps, punched to the ring.
Maddinson's injury in the opening over of the match proved costly, left the Stars a batsman short, but really they still had the firepower with Maxwell and Pooran together and were in complete control. TV commentators are laying into Andre Fletcher for his lack of production now, far more aggressively than criticism directed toward the domestic Australian talents.
full and wide, driven to extra cover.
full and wide, driven uppishly but just short of Botha on the ring at extra cover.
good length ball on the legs, tries to tip and run but Meredith fields off his own bowling to chase him back.
full and wide, carves this to backward point.
yorker on off, dug out down the pitch and ricochets into the non-striker's stumps.
full and wide, goes to drive and beaten.
Extraordinary turnaround this game. Hurricanes looked well under par and Stars were cruising at the halfway stage of the chase and the first few overs after with Maxwell beyond 50 but my how the tables have turned in the last 20 minutes.
yorker cleans him up! Picture perfect full on off stump, Morris tried to back away from leg to create room driving through cover but no chance on that length and the bails fly off.
slower ball outside off, too early through the shot.
length ball in the slot on off stump, another chance for a boundary missed out. Could've easily gone for four or six over mid-off but he splices this to Handscomb on the ring jogging left from mid-off for a simple catch.
in the slot on off stump, tries to heave for midwicket and inside edges this into the pads.
wide outside off, can't get this away.
waist high full toss cracked to mid-on, fortunate to get away without a no ball called as he slaps it to mid-on.
short on the body, pulls an inside edge through the ring for one.
the change of angle works! Length ball on the body, heaves a slower ball toward deep square leg, picks out one of the two men on the rope in the Power Surge. Ellis holds his nerve to pouch this a yard inside the rope at head height.
Comes around the stumps now.
