that will be that! And the final catch is taken, fittingly, by Turner! Sharp short ball on middle and off. Zips through and Topley is incredibly hurried on his hack. Lobs it tamely towards mid off, and the Scorchers captain ices a game he played a pivotal role in!
Scorchers vs Thunder, 16th Match at Sydney, BBL, Dec 30 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
10:32pm That will be all from us for this game. We hope you enjoyed our coverage and until next time, from Ranjith and myself (Shashwat), it is goodbye!
Ashton Turner, Player of the Match: We have ten games (in the season now), so it puts a bit more weight (on each game). We lost the last couple of games, to be on the right side (of the result today) feels good. We have had contributions throughout our squad. Starting to feel we are in a good place. Tonight was the first time our batting and bowling clicked together. Hopefully we can take that to Hobart in a couple of days' time. Our ambition is to play finals cricket and win trophies. We make no qualms about that. Added incentive to get home finals if we get into that position. Most teams are going to get some new inclusions, and hopefully we can be a settled side (come the end of the tournament).
10:27pm A bit of a rout in the end. It did not feel that way when Warner and Gilkes out on 60 in brisk time. But once they fell, it was a long way back for the hosts. None of their other batters, barring perhaps Konstas, got into any rhythm and that sums up what eventually became a rather tame run-chase.
Credit due to the Scorchers as well. They stuck to their plans, forced the Thunder to hit to areas where they had protection and ultimately, the Scorchers were too disciplined for the Sydney Thunder.
Short on off. Topley gives himself room and chops it towards backward point, who misses his shy at the batter's end, and allows an overthrow eventually
Back of a length on the stumps. Topley backs away and nonchalantly glides it down to deep third. Top work on the fence too
Short and wide outside off. Topley cuts it towards deep point
Shortish on leg stump. Sangha hops back and tugs it towards deep mid wicket
Fullish outside off. Sangha, ambitiously, shapes for the reverse and misses
Length ball on the stumps. Played back to the bowler
Hung up wide outside off. Left alone, hoping for the wide but Sangha does not get it
Back of a length on off. Sangha nudges it into the vast real estate in the mid wicket region, and dashes back for two
Agar back on
Back of a length outside off. Topley keeps swinging like a rusty gate, and only the whoosh of the bat connecting with fresh air comes through
Shortish on middle and leg, and this skips through. Topley swings for the hills and misses
Topley is the last batter in
McAndrew and his fun is over! Speared in full on middle and leg. McAndrew flicks it away uppishly towards deep square leg. Agar tracks it all the way, moves smartly to his left and makes no mistake whatsoever. Thunder nine down now!
Four more! A bit of a half-tracker on leg stump. McAndrew opens up his stance and bulldozes it behind square on the leg side!
Another cutter, on a back of a length wide outside off. McAndrew drags it towards deep mid wicket
On-pace bumper on middle and leg. McAndrew has a wild swipe at it and the ball flies off the top edge over the keeper's head!
Slower bouncer on middle and leg. McAndrew sways out of the way and the square leg umpire reckons it is a wide on height
Couch again
Very full just outside off. Sangha opens his bat face and glides it towards backward point
holes out to long on, and the Thunder are right down now! Another slower ball testing out the middle of the track. Well outside off too, meaning Green has to fetch it. Swats it flat but also straight to Allen at long on, who snares the chance smartly!
Slanted in on a length on the stumps. Stabbed to long on
McAndrew now
and Konstas will not face any more balls tonight! Slower bumper on middle and leg. Konstas moves over to the off side but does not have the requisite pace to hook this over short fine. Makes contact but offers the most regulation of chances to short fine leg. Thunder on the brink now!
Konstas has only faced 3 out of the last 28 balls
Full on off. Green plants his front foot and drives it to long off
Slower delivery dug into the track outside off. Konstas fetches it and swats it to long on
