full toss, on the stumps and swept behind square, Bailey delivers the final blow as Australia win by eight wickets and take the series, 2-0 up with one to play
Australia vs England, 2nd T20I at Melbourne, Jan 31 2014 - Ball by Ball Commentary
10.50pm: That's all for today, folks. I'll leave you with Brydon's report and the ICC rankings, where Australia have swum up to midtable mediocrity and sixth, dropping England in the gunk at eighth. Join us again on Sunday in Sydney, for the final game of the tour. Sadly, the curtains were drawn on England a long while ago. G'night, all.
10.40pm: Josh Hazlewood is named Man of the Match: "Yeah, it's nice to have an opportunity with the Test team away and to make the most of it. It's been a great summer and to be a part of it at the end is brilliant."
England captain, Stuart Broad: "Give credit to Australia, they outplayed us. Maybe the wicket just stuck in a little today and we couldn't get going. We've done some great things with the bat but it's not clicked in these two games. But it's not just the batting, we didn't bowl well today. I imagine conditions in Sydney will be slightly different to Chittagong but we've have to get some momentum from somewhere."
Australia captain, George Bailey: "Another great performance with the ball, set the game up. We thought it would be a bit of a surprise for the English [to open with Hodge]. He had to make do with a catch and a run out. We've really been put through our paces in the field and in all formats it's crucial. James Muirhead bowled absolutely beautifully, he came in with confidence and did really well tonight."
10.30pm: There you have it, Australia claim another series, more silver for the mantelpiece. England have been pulverised, brutalised, marmelised again; at least they know the way to A&E by now. In 1998, England's rugby players embarked on what became known as the "Tour to Hell", losing all seven of their games against southern-hemisphere opposition by heavy margins - but England's cricketers have discovered there are still-darker corners of Hades Down Under, 11-1 down across all formats now. On a sunnier note, meanwhile, Cameron White may have sealed a spot in Australia's World T20 squad, with his second consecutive half-century, though it's a shame we didn't get to see a fellow Victorian, Brad Hodge, pressing his claim. Anyway, time for the presentations...
darted in, Bailey makes room and clatters a drive over and wide of mid-off for another boundary. The end is nigh!
slides to leg, flat and quick again, manages to deflect it to short fine leg
tossed up on middle and leg, White glances it firmly through midwicket and beats the boundary rider
pushed through flat on off, played back to the bowler
"Well, that drop chance summed up everything!" exclaims Gopi. Whatever it is, it's not catching, as Richie would say
slower ball, I think, White waits and nudges another single through square leg
tight line on the stumps, turned to leg
dances forwards and wallops a length ball down the ground, bit of a swipe and it lands short of long-off
punched back to the bowler and dropped! Simple caught-and-bowled chance but Bopara shells it
touch of width from Bopara and this is glided down to the boundary a third man, a delicate cut - and, in a blink, Bailey has fifty too
length ball on the stumps, nudged with a close of the bat face through square
Dernbach is taken off to the glue factory, Ravi Bopara comes back
"The light in England's eyes was only a reflection from the fireworks from Australia!" laments Chris in Taunton
pushed through on the stumps, comes forward and clips past mid-on for one more
very full, clipped through midwicket
hello, it's six o'clock! Again it's Bailey bringing the pain, skipping down the track and depositing the ball hiiiiiiiiiiiiigh over long-on
White walks forward on off stump and dabs a single through square - raises the bat for fifty at the 'G in front of his home crowd
length ball, Bailey goes for the big yahoo and under-edges into a gap behind square
tossed up and nurdled into the leg side for one
James Tredwell comes back on, as the light in England eyes fades
four more, this time an inside out drive! The carnage continues for Dernbach, as he tries for the leg stump yorker, Bailey makes room and spears it wide of mid-off
short again, merciless from Bailey, smiting Dernbach into the vacant wide long-on area again, it trundles to the rope
length in the channel, steered sharply to point where it's well stopped
