Andre Adams | 5 | 0 | 54 | 1 | 10.80 | 15 | 7 | 1 | 5 | 1 |
1.1 to DD Ebrahim, the mercurial Adams shows yet again why he is a very hard player to peg into a certain hole, coming up with a wonderful response, shortish lifting ball outside off stump, Ebrahim pokes at it loosely, chopping a thick bottom edge back on to his stumps, middle stump clean knocked out of the ground and Zimbabwe off to a shaky start. 5/1
Jacob Oram | 10 | 4 | 28 | 1 | 2.80 | 45 | 3 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
15.5 to GW Flower, another one bites the dust, good sharp short rising ball on off stump, Flower looks to hook but tries to bail out as it hurries on quicker than excepted, gets a big top edge, flies straight down to Cairns who takes it safely at long leg. 63/3
Chris Cairns | 4 | 0 | 16 | 2 | 4.00 | 17 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
14.3 to CB Wishart, Cairns strikes! and isn't he relieved about that ... ecstatic more like! shortish ball lifting just outside off stump, Wishart pokes at it again, isn't so lucky to miss it on this occasion, getting a thick edge to Styris at first slip, taking it well high up, New Zealand break through to end a 54-run stand which was building into something dangerous. 59/2 16.6 to GJ Whittall, yet another one bites the dust, Zimbabwe in a mini-slump as Cairns weaves his magical touch with the ball at last, fullish ball just outside off stump, Whittall foolishly plays across the line second ball, trying to drive through mid on, gets a thin outside edge, McCullum dives to his right to take a fine catch low to the turf. 65/4
Daniel Vettori | 10 | 0 | 52 | 0 | 5.20 | 26 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Chris Harris | 10 | 0 | 45 | 1 | 4.50 | 35 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 1 |
43.5 to T Taibu, Taibu goes for one cheeky shot too many, the paddle brings him many runs, but also his downfall, trying to scoop it almost over the keeper's head on this occasion, but misses a quicker, shorter ball, struck plumb in front, easy decision for umpire Koertzen to raise the finger, and a plucky, stubborn and increasingly dangerous rebuilding partnership of 68 for the 7th wicket comes to an end. 174/7

5.6 to CD McMillan, goodness, what a wicket! shortish ball with some width outside off stump, McMillan tries to smack the cover off the ball but only succeeds in getting a thick edge through to the keeper, he stands around and waits for the umpire to hisfinger, clearly out, all the players celebrate, except the bowler doesn't appeal, nay, can't appeal, as he's lying flat on the pitch, having stumbled on his follow through and seemingly in some discomfort, thinking of his own health ! but he has a wicket, and he'll happily accept it, a good early breakthrough for Zimbabwe. 27/1
Andy Blignaut | 10 | 0 | 41 | 2 | 4.10 | 38 | 4 | 0 | 3 | 0 |
13.3 to SP Fleming, Blignaut gets the much needed breakthrough to end a quick fire stand, quicker, fullish ball angling in from wide on the crease, Fleming plays across it, struck on the pad on or just a fraction outside the line of off stump, big appeal and upgoes the dreaded (slow) finger of umpire Koertzen, was certainly going to take out the stumps, just a question of where it struck him, not a terrible call the danger man Fleming is on his way for a fine 46 off just 42 balls, Zimbabwe looking to scrap this one out all the way, time for a drinks break at the fall of wicket. 72/2 19.2 to SB Styris, Styris falls into a trap set, Blignaut bounces him, goes for the inviting hook, makes great contact, but sends it sailing straight down sub fielder Travis Friend's throat just inside the rope at deep backward square leg Zimbabwe keeping this contest very much alive, chipping away, not making it easy, the current and required run rates intertwine once again, it certainly looks game on from here. 97/3

43.6 to CL Cairns, but he's gone next ball! goes for another big shot, eyeing the sightscreen, but it's a fine inswinging delivery from outside off stump, plays all around it and the timber is disturbed ends a fine innings with really only one chance provided, and a controlling middle-overs stand of 121 between Cairns and Astle is ceased New Zealand still require 35 from 36 balls to win, just tangoing with the balls remaining in the equation at the moment, has been a fail to pick up the four points for the win from here. 218/4 |
