dropped and goes to the boundary. Short on off, Krunal backs away and carves the ball to third man. The fielder gets across but can only get a hand on his attempted catch. Too tough to call that an opportunity. Rolls away into the boundary and Mumbai go through to the final
KKR vs MI, Qualifier 2 at Bengaluru, May 19 2017 - Ball by Ball Commentary
MI won by 6 wickets (with 33 balls remaining)
11.02pm Handshakes all around. KKR knew they were sub-par today and you have to be at your best against this Mumbai Indians team. Mumbai won the toss and never looked back. If ever there was a wire-to-wire win. The chase began with a stumble, but Rohit and Krunal settled all that to take Mumbai through in what was quite a simple chase in the end. Done with more than five overs to spare. So that sets up Rising Pune Supergiant v Mumbai Indians in the grand finale of IPL 2017.
Since the playoffs started, teams that finished first and second have played in the finals 5 out of 7 seasons, and the team finishing second have won 6 times.
Presentation time.
Karn Sharma is the Man of the Match: "My bowling is come out well, it wasn't great last year but I have worked hard on it. This was an important game for the team as we had to qualify for the final, so I just tried to get wickets for my team and bowl them out quickly. It's a good thing that I am helping out the team."
Rohit Sharma: "We have been really working hard. We don't shy away from going into the finals the hard way. Today was the perfect day. Gives you a lot of confidence, bowlers set the day for us. Taking wickets at regular intervals and keeping the score under control. That's been the hallmark of this team, we're not dependent on one individual. In the top five, we don't have any batsman. Shows a team effort. It's not me, something we have been talking about. I just go and execute what I've been told. I rely on my gut feeling as well. It's very necessary to keep changing. We've not had a great history against (Rising Pune Supergiant). Just one more hurdle."
Gautam Gambhir: "We discussed after the last game that we couldn't get 160-170, we needed 140. Lost too many wickets early on. 107 is not a great score unless you can get the opposition all out. We had to be up for it. Had we had wickets, we could have targetted one or two bowlers. Proud, because we put everything we could. We had two opportunities, we missed it. We could have had two cracks at the top two. The boys were professional through the season."
a low full toss on off, shovelled to midwicket. No feet
1 to win.
a yorker on off, dabbed to point for a single.
138 kph, may have been close to a wide for the left-hander. Well down leg
Should be the last over of KKR's season. Umesh will bowl it.
Krunal grimaces after hammering a drive. Full and wide outside off, drilled past mid-off for four. Immediately holds his groin, hamstring area. Fantastic area to hit the ball
136 kph, a full toss on middle and leg, Pollard misses plenty of runs. Off the inside edge towards square leg
an extremely wide slower ball doesn't land on the pitch outside Pollard's reach. Outside off
133 kph, back of a length outside off, carved away towards third man for a run. Great fielding from Umesh, diving away to his right
Kavzy: "How about the team that finishes top goes through to the final and the 2nd and 3rd placed teams play each other to get in the finals. Makes it more competitive and scraps 2 games."
worked down to fine leg.
drifts way down leg for an extra
a naughty error from de Grandhomme. Back of a length on off, pulled down to deep square leg. Almost hits the umpire. But doesn't. And then goes through de Grandhomme's legs too
on the pads, nudged to square leg for one
Goutham: "Fix the variability in the pitches and matches will nicely fall in place. It is very unfair to have pitches decide matches...no amount of planning will work."
back of a length, short and wide. Pollard can't get bat on his attempted cut. An optimistic appeal is correctly shot down
worked away behind square for a couple more. Nicely waited. All too easy
full and wide, pacey. 141 kph. Left alone by Pollard
Aayush: "If we're talking about changing the way we do the IPL playoffs, how about a round-robin in between the top-4 at neutral venues, and the team ending on top wins the IPL? Obviously, this'll increase the length of the already (really) long IPL, so why not divide the 8 teams into groups of 4, like we have in the championship tournaments?"
fullish and wide, carved to the sweeper cover
Nandha: "Chinnaswammy has been a bowlers paradise this season apart from the KKR massacre against RCB... A small ground still batsmen finding it difficult to nail down sixes!!! Hats off to the pitch curator!!! "
picks out deep square leg. Back of a length on middle, Rohit runs at Coulter-Nile, who drags that length back. A bouncer. Can't get enough timing or power behind that stroke and picks out deep square leg. Unhappy that he didn't keep it down.
back of a length outside off, chopped to point
Virag: "I really feel Playoffs dont do justice to IPL , the winner should be based on league performances . That way the most consistent team wins , just like in domestic football leagues." I wouldn't mind seeing a best of three finals. Cut down a game of playoffs. Like the NBA (I know that's seven)
well played. He's got enough from the over so can play him out. Flat on middle and leg, blocked to cover
carved towards point from the crease
