full on the stumps, heaved to long-on. And that is that! Jaffna Kings win by 51 runs!
Jaffna vs Aura, 8th Match at Kandy, LPL, Dec 11 2022 - Ball by Ball Commentary
That brings to end to our LPL coverage for today, be sure to join us tomorrow for another exciting double header! But for now, on behalf of Fidel and Ranjith, this is Madushka saying farewell!
Winning captain Thisara Perera: "I have to give credit today to the batters and bowlers as well. On this kind of surface they did a really good job for me. It's easy for the captain to be sidelined in this kind of surface. [opening partnership?] The way they played I can't expect anything more. They gave us everything, the momentum, a good start, and set up the middle order. [strong bench?] yeah definitely we'll give them a chance. Today also we rested three players. I'm always trying to give opportunities for the Sri Lankan players."
Losing captain Dasun Shanaka: "[In hindsight should you have batted first?] Um, no. We took a good decision, but it was just a really poor display of bowling. I think we bowled really poor lines and lengths, plus they batted really well. Especially Gurbaz and Avishka up front. [pressure after 3 defeats?] Until we play good cricket, we're going to lose. Everyone should realise that. As international cricketers we need to present our best selves in every game, and now just need to play better and focus on getting through to the Eliminator."
Rahmanullah Gurbaz is the Player of the Match: "Yeah I enjoy playing here, I'm pretty used to this wicket now [having played with Afghanistan recently]. [target?] I just tried to be positive, i practiced to find my zone, and that was the reason I was successful."
Time for the presentation ceremony...
TSB: "There are not much instances where a team is going to score 190-200 but still no one spares even a thought for them, but here is one of those few..."
11.32pm So the Kings bounce back following their loss to the Kandy Falcons yesterday, with a comprehensive victory over Dambulla Aura! It was a win set up by the batters, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz (73 off 35) and Avishka Fernando (54 off 30) leading the way at the top. Their middle and lower order then helped keep up the pace through the middle overs to push the total towards the highest ever in the LPL - 240! Then with the ball, despite Dambulla going hard from the get-go, their bowlers had more than enough to work with. Binura Fernando was the pick of the bunch with figures of 4 for 22, while the young leg spinner Suminda Lakshan also picked up a couple.
short and he attempts the pull, ends up getting a toe end towards mid-off
two balls for Binura to complete his five-for
full toss on the stumps, attempted yorker. Whipped to deep midwicket on the bounce.
Oh my goodness! What an incredible catch! Dew, what dew? Lakshan in the deep holds on to possibly the catch of the match, as he runs in from deep square leg and takes this diving full length to his right.
Direct hit! This was wide and full once more, and the drive catches the under edge through to short third, who throws down the stumps at the striker's end. Replays show he's safe.
wide and full, missed cover drive
Binura to bowl the final over.
55 needed from 6, as this game peters to its conclusion.
Slapped down the ground! Gets on one knee and swings a flat bat at this one that's tossed up and it forces the umpire to duck as it goes straight back down the ground.
Given this time! This is fired on a length down leg, and hits him in front of middle and leg on the back leg. Umpire gives it out, but they have reviewed it. And it's a good review too as this is going to be missing leg stump!
swipes across the line and his struck on the back pad. Big appeal but this looks to be going down leg
Dropped!! He goes across the line and the leading edge goes high into the air. Sadeera calls for it it with the gloves, and some how drops it!
full on the stumps, heaved towards deep midwicket for a couple
Top edged sweep! Some how false safe, as there's no one in the infield onside.
So Dambulla almost mathematically out of this now. They are fast reaching the point where only sixes will do.
pace-off short ball, 110kph, pulled towards deep square leg for one
Overthrows! This is full outside off, dug out towards extra cover, where Thisara picks it up and shies at the striker's end. The keeper who should have been backing up, is nowhere close to this
another slower short one, pulled towards deep square leg
Outstanding work by Malik in the deep! One for the highlight reel here, as this short slower ball is pulled high towards deep midwicket, where Malik leaps up, takes the catch on one foot, realises his momentum is taking him over the ropes, calmly pops the ball up in the air, steps over, steps back inside, and then takes it cleanly. Classy stuff from the ageless veteran.
full, but too far down leg. This hits a foot mark on the popping crease and pops up past the keeper for
slower ball, 103kph, short of a length. Pulled towards deep midwicket on the bounce
back of a length on the pads, swiped towards deep midwicket for one
The excellent Binura back into the attack
dug in shorter, misses out on the uppercut
