9.6 to GS Ballance, drives at this one and he's gone, taking at third slip! Excellent diving catch from Southee, low to his right and Boult strikes in his first over from the Pavilion End. It was full and juicy, a seductive line and swinging late, Ballance pushed forwards a little harder than usual and a thick edge squirted into the cordon. The Black Caps are pointing perkily upwards. 25/2
89.6 to JC Buttler, full and straight, Buttler misses, huge cry for lbw and given out! Buttler reviews but it looks good. No bat and straight enough. Pitched in line, hit bang in front and going on to crash into middle stump. What a blow to the final ball of the day! Just a full, straight, fairly quick delivery and it's caught Buttler out right at the death here. 354/7
93.2 to MM Ali, touch wider, Moeen flicks at it and nicks behind! It might have bounced a little but it was a slightly lazy waft from Moeen and he got a thick edge for an easy catch behind. Just what New Zealand were after, no real damage from Moeen this morning and a bit of bounce has done for him. Second look at the catch actually, Latham only just held on in his fingertips, reaching with two hands to his left. A relieved face!. 363/8
95.1 to SCJ Broad, lovely delivery, angled into the stumps, it nibbles away a little and takes a thin edge behind! Second quick strike for New Zealand and it's a very nice piece of bowling, getting this to move a little down the slope and Broad, playing from the crease, got a feather edge - the tiniest mark on Hot Spot - through to Latham who took a far more solid catch this time. 368/9
24110414.3310216013
7.2 to A Lyth, presses forward to a length ball, was there a nick? Yes, says umpire Ravi! Lyth winces, he doesn't look certain either way but Southee and his team-mates were pretty convinced... After a chat with Cook, the debutant decides against having his first crack at the DRS. Probably wise, as Hot Spot suggests a scintilla of outside edge on the ball, it was quick and drew him forwards, actually nipped back to shave the bat. A very decent ball and the tiniest, tiniest tickle ends Lyth's first Test innings. 17/1
24.539343.7410812110
10.2 to AN Cook, banged in short, down the leg side, Cook flails a pull shot... and there's a scrap of something on it, up goes the finger again! England are three down and reeling in the sunshine. Cook seemed a bit surprised, maybe extra pace in it from Henry, if a touch wayward, he swatted across the line and got a faint top edge that every Kiwi on the pitch heard. 25/3
12.2 to IR Bell, bowled him, that's a beaut of a ball! A beaut and a brute in one, Bell's off stump is pegged back and Henry has his second of the morning! New Zealand are tearing into an already wounded England, they stuck them in and are rattling through the hosts at HQ. This was unplayable, reminiscent of that Jimmy Anderson delivery to Michael Clarke a couple of summers back, pitching on off and holding its line to decapitate the stump. 30/4
63.5 to JE Root, slightly wide, Root goes for the cut that will bring up his hundred... but feathers an edge to the keeper! A second England batsman falls in the 90s, Root two runs short. Threw the bat but only managed to get a thin bottom edge on it. 251/6
100.5 to JM Anderson, full on off stump, Anderson presses at it and chips it back to the bowler who takes a lovely catch! Henry sticking out a right hand and clings on above his right shoulder without even looking at the ball! Very smart take and Henry finishes with four on debut. 389/10
1827714.277111000
44.1 to BA Stokes, shoulders arms outside off and bowls him! It's drifted into the top of off stump, slid down the slope and clipped the outside of the top of off. A great knock for Stokes but no century with that misjudgment. A wicket from nowhere for New Zealand, a breakthrough they so desperately needed. 191/5

124.6 to TG Southee, length ball, Southee stepping to leg tries to heave up towards the Tavern and gets it all wrong, chipping a catch to midwicket. The ball was not there to hit at all really, just a steady length and Southee didn't even properly open his body up for a big slog either. Pretty ugly in the end. 493/8
26.247732.9212411010
35.2 to MJ Guptill, wider ball on a full length, Guptill seems to leather a drive but is caught to cover! Ballance gets down low to his left to take a good catch and now both openers are out within three balls, just what England wanted. Guptill was reaching for this a bit and swung a drive, got it off low on the bat and it looped towards Ballance, dying on him, solid catch. 148/2
85.4 to LRPL Taylor, back of a length at the body, Taylor tries to fend it off and gets a glove down the leg side that is brilliantly held by Buttler! Diving full length to his left hand side, he has held a beauty at full stretch with one hand. Taylor looked in a little bother for the last couple of overs and here got one zipping into him that he couldn't get out of the way of, a brush of the glove and Buttler held the chance superbly. There's the breakthrough. 337/3
131.2 to TA Boult, steps to leg and hoicks the ball skyward, Anderson gives chase towards mid-on... and takes the catch at full length! Boult dies by the sword, though he nearly got away with it, as Anderson needed two grabs to be sure. 523/10
2729333.4411712001
98.3 to BB McCullum, now tries to flick a length ball on the stumps over the leg side and gets a big whirling top edge that flies down towards third man and Root takes the catch! And this time Mark Wood does take his maiden Test wicket. McCullum with a slightly misjudement and it flew down quite fine on the off side but Root was able to come quickly to his left to take a catch just inside the rope. 403/4
104.2 to CJ Anderson, banged in down the leg side, Anderson fends at it... and Buttler takes another brilliant catch diving to his right! Just a flick of glove on the delivery but umpire Ravi spotted it. Buttler snaffled it one-handed a few inches above the ground. 420/5
128.4 to MJ Henry, backs away and mows the ball straight up in the air, taken at point, Wood has a third! Big top edge from Henry, who was looking to get agricultural but has been put out to pasture (for now). 515/9
21210505.009019100
2649433.611108100
34.6 to TWM Latham, played back, it slides up the slope, strikes the pad and given out lbw! There's the breakthrough, Latham playing back when he should have been forward, trying to flick to leg, it skipped on a bit and caught the front pad half-way up going on to hit a good clunk of leg stump, umpire Ravi gave it out straightaway. 148/1
119.1 to KS Williamson, forward, Williamson goes to flick it leg side and misses, initial appeal for lbw and also a cry for a catch at short leg, either way this is given out! I think lbw because it was pretty straight and I didn't think there was any bat involved. But I am corrected by Real Time Snicko that indicates a thin edge onto the pad that popped up to Ballance at backward short leg. 470/6
119.3 to MD Craig, but this is straighter and given out lbw! This also ran down the hill but from a straighter line. Craig reviews. It was definitely pad first, well away from the inside edge, caught him on the knee roll, question is probably whether it's high or not and Hawk Eye has it taking a big chunk of the bails, umpire's call but more than fair enough. Live time it looked dead. 470/7

2.2 to A Lyth, tighter line, Lyth pushes tentatively this time - and steers it to slip! Boult has his man, straight from the playbook: plug away outside off, get some movement through the air and off the pitch. Lyth could probably have left it but, maybe excited by the feeling of bat on ball, couldn't help himself. 14/1
124.2 to AN Cook, big appeal from Boult as Cook pushes forwards to a length ball outside off. Was there a sound? Umpire Ravi is unconvinced but McCullum asks for the review. It beat Cook past the inside edge, hard to see any visible deflection but Hot Spot seems to be picking up a little mark; yes, there's a spike of noise on Snicko, too. This is going to be overturned, Cook is gone after an enormously gutsy innings. 455/7
126.3 to SCJ Broad, pitched up and bowled him, Boult bites back! Another all-too-brief cameo from Broad but it keeps the game moving, he was backing away and exposed the stumps, Boult hit leg. 467/8
128.1 to MM Ali, length ball, coming back in and Moeen is stuck on the crease, struck on the pads - given! Moeen reviews but it doesn't look good for him, no bat involved and he hadn't got forwards... Hawk-Eye says it would have knocked off the bails and that is enough, stays with the on-field decision and Moeen is a goner. 478/9
128.6 to JM Anderson, pitched up and bowled him, off stump out of the ground! New Zealand have cleaned England up and now they will get to chase. Perfect ball to a No. 11, full and veering back in late to hit the woodwork as Anderson flailed at it, also completes Boult's five-for. 478/10
34416224.7613823310
7.4 to GS Ballance, bowled him, that is a peach! Southee shaves the off stump, Ballance squared up and playing down the Bakerloo Line! Brilliant from Southee, full enough to hit the top of off, pitching on leg with a scrambled seam and nibbling away past the bat, even as Ballance thought he'd cover his timbers. He even stuck out his back leg involuntarily, like a lady bowing at court, so completely was he done. 25/2
26.3 to IR Bell, fullish, beautiful line and Bell nicks it through, Southee strikes third ball! What a start, New Zealand are bouncing around, they've knocked one over straight away... There's a moment's delay as they check the no-ball but Southee was fine, half a boot behind the line. Bell was again trying to be positive, as he began his innings last night, but the ball swung away as he reached for it and left him running on thin air, the chasm yawning beneath. 74/3
29310623.6512111020
69.3 to JE Root, bounces him again, Root pulls... and sends it unerringly straight to Boult at fine leg! Don't think that was the most sensible piece of shot selection from Root, it was almost like catching practice, so precisely did he pick out the man. Walks off to generous applause but he'll be kicking his own backside back up the stairs to the balcony. 232/4
100.5 to JC Buttler, excellent delivery, snaking away from Buttler as he feels for it, thin edge taken by the keeper! Henry gets this one right on the money, curving in and then holding its line and rising to kiss the outside edge... Buttler could probably have left it but was a very decent ball. 389/6
2839613.4212514010
95.6 to BA Stokes, tossed up outside off, Stokes tries a slog sweep and edges to slip! The breakthrough comes and Stokes falls but not before a quite superb innings. There was enough turn here just to take the outside edge and it flew at shoulder height to Taylor who held an easy catch. Game-changing innings from Stokes and at the very least he has moved England back to much safer waters, and pretty quickly too. 364/5

0.2 to MJ Guptill, pitched up and swinging, beautiful line and he's gone, edged to second slip! Anderson strikes second ball, his 399th Test wicket and it is a classic, full and inviting and shaping devastatingly away from Guptill's push forward. One down, for England, nine to go. 0/1
16.335033.03747001
1.1 to TWM Latham, over the wicket, good length, straightening on leg stump, Latham is struck on the pads - given! Broad raises Anderson by striking with his very first delivery, a golden duck for Latham! He doesn't bother to review after consulting with Williamson, though I thought there might have been a question of whether it pitched outside leg; Hawk-Eye shows it to be a good decision by umpire Ravi on that front, however, as it definitely pitched in line, would have clipped the stump. What a start for England. 0/2
5.3 to LRPL Taylor, full and hit on the front pad as Taylor swipes across the line, Broad is off celebrating as the finger goes up! This is deja vu all over again for Broad and New Zealand, they are already in danger of being filleted at Lord's just like in 2013. No doubt about this one, though it wasn't a good shot from Taylor, pinned him bang in front of middle and off. 12/3
67.3 to TA Boult, short ball, Boult uppercuts... Moeen is down at third man, he's taken the catch, diving full length! Of all the places to be caught trying to save a Test! Moeen did brilliantly well, he was running back to his left, went with both hands but took it in his left, managed to cling on as he fell to the ground, just below the England team balcony. England win by 124 runs and go 1-0 up in the series. 220/10
1334713.61587000
50.3 to BJ Watling, shorter again, it bounces a little and takes a glove behind! There's the breakthrough, Watling gloves it through to Buttler, he couldn't get out of the way of this one and Watling's fine rearguard action is finally ended. Just a bit of extra bounce from Wood around the off stump line, Watling couldn't ride it this time and it was a healthy brush of the glove for an easy chance to Buttler. 168/6
1133833.45535110
23.4 to KS Williamson, and now he's got him! Caught in the gully, Williamson pressing away from his body and he's guided this to gully where Joe Root holds on low to his right. Huge wicket and a run of good deliveries, creating problems for Williamson, has forced a mistake, a little bounce again here and Williamson couldn't keep the stroke down, thickish outside edge and Root got down low to take the chance with two hands. 45 minutes of careful batting since lunch has been ended. 61/4
23.5 to BB McCullum, length ball swings this back and bowled him!! Two in two, McCullum cramped up with the delivery nipping back into him and he couldn't keep it out. The afternoon suddenly transformed and Stokes is the man for England. It's come sharply back at McCullum, into his thigh pad, up onto the bat and then down onto the stumps, New Zealand's skipper gone first ball. 61/5
58.6 to MD Craig, full and straight bowled him!! Stokes the man for England again! Craig beaten for pace, the delivery - aimed at leg stump - takes a flick of the pad and deflects into off stump. What drama here, England two away now. 198/8
833514.37377000
59.1 to TG Southee, tossed up, Southee drives in the air, back to the bowler and Moeen grabs it, low to his left! Tumbling catch but he held it above the ground, another big cheer rings around Lord's, Southee looks crestfallen, heads off... England are right on the brink of a famous win. 198/9
53711.40271000
53.5 to CJ Anderson, angled in, strikes the pad, huge appeal and given out lbw!! Anderson waits a while but goes for the review, is this slipping down leg? It's missed the inside edge and struck below the knee roll but could be missing leg stump...but it's clipping leg stump on Hawk Eye! Slightly unlucky for Anderson but the decision stays with umpire Ravi. Hawk Eye had it clipping the outside of leg stump so it didn't straighten that much but it straightened enough. 174/7
