Rush Kalaria 12 sinks Odisha

A round-up of the Ranji Trophy Group B matches on December 17, 2014

Gujarat 372 (Merai 134, Akshar 50, Pradhan 3-59) and 105 for 2 (Merai 43*, Bhatt 33*) beat Odisha 225 (Behera 75, Kalaria 6-59) and 248 (Mallick 126, Kalaria 6-45) by eight wickets
Scorecard
Left-arm seamer Rush Kalaria picked up a six-wicket haul in both innings, helping Gujarat crush Odisha by eight wickets in Cuttack. Odisha, who began at an overnight score of 143 for 5, were dealt an early blow on the final day as their centurion Abhilash Mallick (126) was dismissed 12 overs into the day after stroking 23 fours and two sixes. Govinda Podder's 50 led Odisha past the 200-run mark, but the team lost their last four wickets for just 28 runs. Kalaria collected 6 for 45, taking his match tally to 12 for 104. This meant that Gujarat needed just 102 for victory - a target they overhauled in 30 overs thanks to an unbroken stand worth 73 for the third wicket between Bhargav Merai (43) and Rujul Bhatt (33).
Haryana 136 (Rana 41, Fallah 5-36) and 176 (Kuldeep 39, Mundhe 4-36) beat Maharashtra 105 (Ashish 5-27, Joginder 3-27) and 154 (Tripathi 39, Mohit 5-54, Ashish 4-40) by 53 runs
Scorecard
A five-for from Mohit Sharma helped Haryana script a 53-run victory against Maharashtra in Rohtak. Maharashtra needed just 199 on the final day for an outright win, but they were pegged back early by regular blows from Mohit and Ashish Hooda who wrecked their top order and left them precariously placed at 66 for 5. Rahul Tripathi top-scored for Maharashtra with 39 and led the team past the 100-run mark, but he was hard pressed to find partners who stayed long enough at the other end to seriously trouble Haryana, as the visitors were bowled out for 154 inside 40 overs. Mohit collected 5 for 54, while Ashish took 4 for 40, taking his match tally to 9 for 67.
Rajasthan 437 for 5 declared (Saxena 118, Menaria 100, Bist 99) drew with Saurashtra 269 (Vasavada 85, Jogiyani 68, Pankaj 4-70) and 117 for 3 (Jackson 71)
Scorecard
Rajasthan and Saurashtra played out a draw in Jaipur, but Rajasthan secured three crucial points by virtue of a first-innings lead. In reply to Rajasthan's 437 for 5 declared, Saurashtra began the day at a promising 180 for 3, but lost Divyaraj Chauhan for 38 just two overs into the final day. That dismissal set the tone for the rest of Saurashtra's innings, as despite an 85 from Arpit Vasavada, they lost their last seven wickets for just 82 runs to be dismissed for 269. Pankaj Singh was the pick of Rajasthan's bowlers and ended with 4 for 70. With a 168-run lead in hand, the hosts enforced the follow-on, and again made early inroads as Saurashtra lost both their openers for ducks. Sheldon Jackson, however, stroked a 119-ball 71 and put up a 103-run partnership with Vasavada to guide the team to 117 for 3 before stumps were called.
Punjab 195 (Gurkeerat 75, Dhurv 4-56) and 255 (Khera 100, Jiwanjot 65, Wagh 3-71) drew with Vidarbha 158 (Badrinath 62, Kaul 5-49, Sandeep 5-51) and 143 for 3 (Badrinath 49*)
Scorecard
The Ranji clash between Punjab and Vidarbha in Nagpur also ended in a draw. Punjab, who had already collected an innings lead, were 211 for 6 when the day began, but could add only 44 to that second-innings score. Gitansh Khera muscled 11 fours and a six to hit 100, his maiden first-class ton, but the lower-order batsmen were all dismissed in quick succession for low scores as Punjab were bowled out inside the first 15 overs of the day. This meant that Vidarbha needed 293 for an outright win, but with only 58 overs left in the day to hunt down that total, they were always facing an uphill task. Faiz Fazal and Sanjay Ramaswamy began with an opening stand of 50, and even though both batsmen were eventually removed in quick succession by the 32nd over, Ganesh Satish (32) and S Badrinath (49) guided Vidarbha to 143 for 3 before the day ended.
