Cameron Borgas and Michael Klinger were slow but effective on the second day in Adelaide, where South Australia recovered from early shakes and gave themselves a good chance of taking first-innings points. At stumps Borgas was unbeaten on 60 and Klinger had 52, and the Redbacks were 2 for 146 with a deficit of 163 runs.
Their steadiness boosted South Australia after their openers fell within the first 12 overs and the score was 2 for 28. Both openers were making their first-class debut; Jamie Smith was caught off Brett Dorey for 15 before the former New South Wales rookie Tom Cooper was run out for 10.
That brought Klinger and Borgas together and neither man was in a hurry - Borgas took 170 deliveries and Klinger occupied the crease for 162 balls. They were copying the resolve shown by Western Australia's Wes Robinson, who in his second first-class match finished with 141 from 340 deliveries.
His marathon innings lasted more than seven hours and importantly for the Warriors, he was able to bat effectively with the tail. Western Australia resumed at 7 for 233 and Robinson had useful support from Steve Magoffin (26) and Dorey, who made 19, as they bumped their total up to 309.
