Tasmania face a tense morning on the third day after moving 45 short of first-innings points with only two wickets remaining. On a slow day the Tigers moved cautiously to 8 for 186, scoring at less than two an over, against a Queensland attack that picked up regular wickets.
Gerard Denton (12) and Ben Hilfenhaus (2) have the tough task of pushing Tasmania ahead after the innings followed a similar pattern to Queensland's, with lots of starts but no half-centuries. Dan Marsh, who engineered a fine fightback to beat New South Wales two weeks ago, staged an important stand of 56 with David Dawson to lift the Tigers from 4 for 38, but he departed with 35 when hitting Lee Carseldine to midwicket.
Dawson scored 38, Luke Butterworth 31 and James Faulkner 25 to keep Tasmania in with a chance after the poor start. Jonathan Wells was out to the fifth ball of the innings when he edged Ryan Harris to Clinton Perren at second slip and the Tigers were 2 for 31 after Dane Anderson nicked James Hopes on 7. In the second session Harris struck again to have Rhett Lockyear (16) lbw and George Bailey (4) was picked up by Chris Swan. Swan had 2 for 40 while Harris earned 3 for 54.
Queensland added 19 to their overnight total before Swan (17) became the second wicket of Faulkner's debut, while Chris Hartley was 31 not out. Faulkner picked up 2 for 16 and Luke Butterworth 3 for 44.
