Wes Robinson provided the only batting highlight on a day dominated by the seamers at Bellerive Oval, where Tasmania closed the first day struggling in reply to 189. Alex Doolan was at the crease on 11 and George Bailey had 3 at stumps as the small task of claiming first-innings points started to look a shade tougher for the Tigers.
They finished on 2 for 33 after Steve Magoffin and Drew Porter removed the openers and continued the theme of fast men thriving in the Hobart conditions. Luke Butterworth had been the most effective for Tasmania and he collected 4 for 16 from a superb 17 overs as the bowlers found plenty of swing.
Butterworth picked up the important wicket of Robinson, whose 84 stood out in an otherwise disappointing Warriors scorecard. He eventually fell when he skied an attempted pull and Western Australia's resistance quickly fizzled out. Marcus Stoinis (27) and Josh Mangan (26) were the only other men to reach double figures.
In a vastly inexperienced Western Australia side, the stand-in captain Adam Voges loomed as a key figure but he was lbw to Brett Geeves for a duck with the first ball after lunch. Jason Krejza chipped in with two wickets and Gerard Denton also collected two.
