Bushrangers maintain upper hand

The fast bowler Jayde Herrick put Victoria in a strong position on the opening morning at the SCG, but by the end of the day it was the rain that was in control of the match

Scorecard
Victoria's top order made light work of gloomy conditions in which New South Wales had battled to reach 201, guiding the Bushrangers to 2 for 131 at stumps on day two of the Sheffield Shield match at the SCG.
Chris Rogers, the former Test opening batsman, was typically unfussy in his unbeaten 67, taking a particular toll on Josh Hazlewood, the young fast bowler returning to first-class cricket from an extended injury break.
Hazlewood's seven overs were taken for 44 runs, while Mitchell Starc, another who has been in the sights of the national selectors at times, was not much more dangerous in his seven overs for 32.
Rob Quiney made 44 before hooking at Sean Abbott and top-edging a swirling catch to Peter Nevill, while Aaron Finch made only seven when he snicked Moises Henriques into the slips where Tim Cruickshank took an unorthodox 'catch' as the ball nestled between his shins.
Resuming at a sorry 4 for 45, the Blues owed much to the allround skill of Henriques, who showed plenty of diligence and composure in his 68. Simon Katich made only 29, but soaked up 93 deliveries when the pitch and overhead conditions were at their most challenging.
Jayde Herrick, the strongly-built Victorian seamer, collected five wickets for his state for the first time, while Jon Holland enjoyed the chance to work at the Blues tail in collecting 3-43.
