full on the stumps and IT'S OUT OF THE GROUND!!! What a victory, what a performance from Andre Russell. Abbott misses his length and Russell does the rest, whacking it way back over long-on!
South Africa vs West Indies, 4th ODI at Gqeberha, Jan 25 2015 - Ball by Ball Commentary
West Indies won by 1 wicket (with 9 balls remaining)
A West Indies victory! Sound the church bells! They still can't turn the series around but another win in the final ODI on Wednesday will see them take some momentum into the World Cup. Join us for that fifth and final ODI at 1.30pm local time on Wednesday, up in Centurion, bye for now...
Something different for the captains to talk about at the presentation. For once AB de Villiers has to explain away a defeat: "It was a good game of cricket. It really hurst to lose. I can't fault the fight we showed. We had some good moments and no so good movements. Andre played exceptionally well. We got tested and it's nice to lose. Great knock by David Miller - great signs for the World Cup. But we bowled some bad balls at the wrong time. We played most of the time but a dropped catch from me and some poor balls gave it away. 22 extras is not nice to know, it's free runs. Sometimes you can try too hard. We showed fighting spirit but a few bad moments gave it away. I'm going to resting for the last game but the lads can take more confidence with a good showing in the last game."
Holder has something to smile at at last: "It means a lot. W've had a tough tour so to get across the line in this game is very special. It was well set up with Darren and Marlon and then Andre was exceptional. The bowlers did an outstanding job with wickets with the new ball and then pressure in the middle overs. I was nervous towards the end but I'm so pleased we got over the line. 262 I would have taken at the start and delighted we got home." Andre Russell takes the Man of the Match for his outstanding finishing job...
West Indies did really well with the ball at the start of the game but then a maiden ODI century from David Miller rescued the innings to give South Africa a competitive total. It looked to be good enough for a long part of the chase but a steady rebuilding job by Samuels and Sammy got the chase going. It ultimately led to a brilliant turnaround from 73 for 5. A victory for Jason Holder, you can't help but be delighted for him.
Finally, we've had a great game and West Indies have got home by one-wicket! A thrilling run chase, set up by Marlon Samuels and Darren Sammy and then finished in superb fashion by Andre Russell whose five sixes have won the match. A brilliant innings and West Indies at last on the board in this series having been hammered in the first three rubbers. Relief and joy for the tourists. A win to saviour here.
great yorker, well dug out back to the bowler, Russell almost falls out of his ground, Abbott throw missed anyway
Just three needed...
length just outside off, steps to leg and carves past backward point! Flies to the boundary, what a shot, great timing, no chance for deep cover, length not the best option from Abbott
West Indies in touching distance now, what a game. Abbott to try and win it for his side...
full, straighter line, tries to flick leg side and misses, it runs off the pads a short way into the off side, Cottrell is calling a sharp single and Russell is abel to steam up the other end to keep the strike!
oh dear, slips down leg, wide
further outside off, driven powerfully out through cover, what a save by Miller at deep cover! Diving to his left saves four brilliantly
down the track and into the stands again!! Another huge strike over long-on, right to the pitch and bang, six more, fifty for Russell, can he get his side home now?
back in his crease and heaves it over long-on! Big strike. Tad short from the bowler, deep in his crease and hammered away
Now Mr Russell...
full length just outside off, driven down to long-off, well played
Can Cottrell survive long enough here?
middle and leg line, dabbed up on the leg side, no single there, Brathwaite sent back but de Villiers is there with the throw and Brathwaite is a long way out! No need for the third umpire. Brathwaite trying to get Russell back on strike but he's too keen and pays the price, nice fielding from de Villiers at midwicket to make up for the dropped catch
Phangiso for his last...
fuller length, swing away again and edged behind! But Russell wants a review. It was given out by Steve Davis. No Hot Spot in this series but we have Real Time Snicko. Russell adamant that there was no edge. No obvious sound on the replay and nothing on RTS too, will this be overturned on this evidence? Yes it is! Russell survives and the match is still alive! Great time to still have the review left
tighter line, Russell tries to step to leg and carve on the off side but is beaten and the ball shaves the off stump too
towards off stump and again it swings alarmingly away and beats the outside edge, this sudden swing is remarkable
too wide of off stump this time, cut at and missed
anther one across Russell and beats him this time, away swing again
length ball sliding across the right-hander, tries to guide to third man and dropped at slip! Bad drop really by de Villiers of all people to his right hand side, he got two hands at shoulder height but it bounced out
great bumper, batsman falls on the floor swaying inside the line
Still going this chase having threatened to fold several times. Parnell for the 22nd bowling change of the innings...
dug in around off stump, well played up on his toes knocking this down towards point
well bowled, yorker on leg stump, Russell gets something on it fine of third man, little outside edge looking to turn it to leg I think
slower ball bumper, batsman gets in a pickle and it ends up harmlessly going through to the keeper
