Roach finishes it with a flick off the pads to a full delivery and holds his arms aloft as the ball scoots past square leg, El Tino punches the air
West Indies vs India, 2nd Match at Kingston, Jun 30 2013 - Ball by Ball Commentary
That is all from this game. Abhishek Purohit signing off. Cheers
Johnson Charles is the Man of the Match. Charles: "That was a good innings, previous game I struggled a bit. Me and Bravo have always been batting good, I enjoy batting with him. Wicket improved a bit, it got flatter and was more of a batting pitch. I would have liked to get three figures and carry my team to victory. I am disappointed about it."
Kieron Pollard: "We find ways to get into these positions, but we won in the end. Teams of the past could have just fallen, that shows the belief of everyone in the team, victories such as these bring us together. We wanted to go to Trinidad with two wins, does not matter how we have done it, but we have. We should not be overconfident though, should win these sort of games easily. Thanks to the crowd for the support. Bravo [sitting out] was precautionary, we have Pakistan coming up, he has five or six days to get ready, hopefully he should be taking the mantle in Trinidad, with Ravi we are not sure."
Virat Kohli: "The way the wicket played in the second innings, the score was not enough, but it was completely different in the morning, it was damp, it got good to bat on later. There were times when you are under pressure and you miss him (Dhoni) because he is calm under pressure. We tried to take as many wickets as possible, one or two edges going to the fielders would have been different, we were close to winning it. There was a bit of spungy bounce in the morning, it was turning for Narine. It was just a matter of one wicket. Great game by West Indies, great fight by us, great entertainment."
What an entertainer. What a nerve-shredder. Roach gets hugs from his team-mates. West Indies recovered from 26 for 3 to 142 for 3 before India clawed back with all those wickets. A limited-overs attack that gets slammed so regularly for failure to plug run leaks came within a wicket of defending 229. India will take heart from that. West Indies should have won this in a canter, they did it in a crawl, but they have two wins out of two, and will go to Trinidad full of confidence. What a turnaround from Charles, full of outrageous strokes after his struggle against Sri Lanka
BJ: "Didn't Roach score the winning runs against Pakistan too? Easy game this cricket for him huh."
Kuldeep: "Looks like Indian bowlers have just forgotten what a yorker is!!!"
Short cover, almost a silly point
a full delivery pushed straight to extra cover
squeezes a good length ball to backward point, what a sensible hand from Roach
Hariharan: "Can someone atleast try bowling a yorker now?"
strays on the pads from back of a length and the scores are tied with a nudge to square leg, the horns could not get any louder at Sabina Park
Kohli thought about Raina, then gave the ball to Umesh
priceless from Tino now, on the front foot, opens the face late and gets the single to third man
Roach gets to the other end with one ball remaining with a calm, firm punch wide of mid off, supercool stuff from the birthday boy
Crowd clapping and egging Roach on
punched to extra cover off the back foot
flashes and misses outside off stump
priceless, Roach waits on the crease, opens the face and beats backward point for two runs
Samson: "DK, Kohli, Rohit all remind me of a classroom without class teacher. Everybody is a class monitor and has an opinion! :)"
shortish and widish, he tries a whiplash cut and is beaten
Bhuvneshwar gets another bowl finally
this was wide and Tino went for an extravagant cut, could not connect
strays on the pad, and is picked to fine leg
tries to force a short of a length ball just outside off stump, but finds no timing at all
punches a short of driving length ball to the bowler
turns a back of a length ball to midwicket
BJ: "Regardless of how the Windies have seemingly thrown away what should've been a somewhat straightforward victory, this is certainly making for an entertaining finish!"
squeezed out towards point, who dives in his eagerness to prevent the single
Dheeman : "Perfect time for one more mention of Dhoni's name and what a great captain he is. (Hope he gets us the last one)."
Umesh replaces Suresh, there is a slip in
stretches forward to deny Jadeja off the last ball of his spell
lengfth ball whipped in the air past forward short leg,, Kohli jumps in excitement
Tino goes after a pitched up ball, Ishant at deepish mid off cuts it off
pushed behind square on off, slip fields
Short cover
whips a full ball in front of square leg and settles for the single in the end after some consideration
on middle, pushed back to the bowler
At least Dhoni won't be taking the blame for India's abysmal over rate this time as Jadeja, Kohli, Rohit et all have a long chat
