  • It was the 1542nd ODI.
  • Umpires Darryl Harper and Steve Davis were officiating in their 25th and 16th match respectively.
  • Stuart MacGill was making his ODI debut (though he has already made his Test debut for Australia on 30-01-1998 against South Africa at Adelaide). He became 141st player to represent Australia in ODIs.
  • Ricky Ponting made his third consecutive duck.He became fourth Australian after Dennis Lillee,Craig McDermott and Tom Moody and 19th batsman overall to record three consecutive ducks.The record is however shared by WestIndian Gus Logie and SriLankan Pramodya Wickremasinghe who both had a sequence of four consecutive ducks.
  • Mark Waugh,on 7, completed his 7000 runs in ODIs in his 203rd match and 198th innings.He became first Australian and eighth batsman in the world to reach this milestone.
  • The wicket of Damien Martyn was 400th for Wasim Akram in his 285th match.Akram,in the course,became first ever bowler to reach this milestone.At present the only other bowler who is near to Akrams tally is another Pakistani Waqar Younis with 290 wickets from 179 matches a gap of just 110 wickets !
  • Glenn McGraths figures (8-0-67-1) are the second most expensive by an Australian bowler in a eight over spell.The record is still held by Adam Dale who conceded 70 runs off his 8 overs against South Africa at Bloemfontein on 13-04-1997.
  • Stuart MacGill (4-19) became the third Australian and 23rd bowler in ODIs to capture four wickets on debut. The other Australians to do so are Tony Dodemaide (5-21,v SriLanka,Perth,02-01-1988) and Carl Rackemann (4-39,v NewZealand,Melbourne,09-01-1983).Incidentally MacGill?s figures are the fourth best by a debutant.
  • Waqar Younis innings (37) was the second highest for Pakistan at number 10 after Abdur Razzaqs 46* (v South Africa,Durban,03-04-1998 - highest by any batsman at number 10).It was also the second highest by any batsman against Australia at this position after Englands Angus Frasers 38* at Melbourne on 10-01-1991.
  • The victory was Australia fourth in as many games.It has now lost only two matches out of last 20 matches.
  • The Man of the Match award was MacGills maiden award.He became third Australian to win the award on debut after Merve Hughes (3-30, v Pakistan, Adelaide,11-12-1988) and Brendon Julian (3-50, v England, Lords ,23-05-1993).
