Anita Ghulam Ali voices concern about Indian women's tour
KARACHI, May 6: The Indian women's cricket team is to visit this
country for three one-dayers in the third week of May.
However, Ms Anita Ghulam Ali, Patron of Sindh Education, has
regretted that in spite of running from pillar-to-post, sending
faxes and making requests at the provincial and federal level,
permission is not being granted to the women's cricket team for
use of the National Stadium and Qadhafi Stadium Lahore. Federal
Ministers have promised support and seed money.
An ex-Test cricketer in the Cricket Control Board surprisingly
told the girls "he does not approve of women in sports".
Sponsors expect Government patronage to equal it with their
support. Will our Sporting Minister, and defender of Women's
rights not ensure we make India-Pakistan women's cricket matches
memorable? After all that is the spirit, we hope will be
reflected in talks in the Maldives, says Prof Anita Ghulam Ali.
"Ministers Abida Hussain, Syed Mushahid Hussain, Commissioner
Mir Hussain Ali are all aware of the women's cricket teams
frantic efforts to convince all our neighbours, that there is
substance in what the Government professes, and that, it is not
all sound and fury," concluded Ms Anita Ghulam Ali.
