India's decision to withdraw from the Sharjah Cricket Tournament triggered a series of major setbacks for the CBFS with its Chief Coordinator Asif Iqbal quitting his post and Coca Cola , the title sponsors for the upcoming championship, pulling out.
"I am used to dealing with only cricket and cricket boards. I am not ready to deal with people who have nothing to do with cricket," Asif told Dubai-based newspapers from London while ending his 20-year-long association with the CBFS.
He was obviously referring to the Indian government's decision not to allow the national squad to play at "non-regular" venues like Sharjah, Toronto and Singapore for the next three years.
Meanwhile, Ary Gold, a Dubai-based company owned by a Pakistan entrepreneur, has now stepped in to replace Coca Cola as the title sponsor for the tournament, featuring Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand, beginning on Sunday.
