CCA thanks PCB for agreeing to play in Toronto

Karachi, Aug 25: The Canadian Cricket Association (CCA) has thanked Pakistan for agreeing to send its team to Toronto which would promote the sport in that country.

The chief of the CCA, Geoff Edwards, in a press statement faxed to Dawn, said: "Without the very considerable support of the Pakistan Cricket Board (ad hoc committee), international cricket in Toronto would not have taken place this year."

Edwards added that it would have had great implications for the CCA as Canada is to host the 2001 International Cricket (ICC) Trophy.

"Our facilities, development programme relies entirely on the sanction fee we received from the international cricket played in Toronto in September each year. Without the support of the PCB and its partners, it is fair to say that the entire 2001 project would have been jeopardized.

"Throughout, the PCB has supported the CCA and international cricket played in Canada by indicating its willingness to fulfil its obligations and send a team to Canada, we are extremely relieved and grateful."

The press released added that while Pakistan will play the West Indies on Sept 16, 18 and 19, India would take on the West Indies on Sept 11, 12 and 14.

The organizers also hoped that the five-match series between India and Pakistan would revive in 2000.
