The Colorado Cricket League is looking for three teams to attend a tournament on the week-end of July 6th and 7th, 1996. The following information is not 100% accurate and is meant as a guide only; as we receive more information we will pass it on. If you are interested, please contact me by email at Parahandy1@aol.com. The closing date for entance will be 4/19/96.
Tournament Name : The CooperSmith`s Cricket Barrel
(CooperSmith`s Pub and Brewing is a locally owned and maintained brewpub, restaurant and pool hall. The owners have agreed to sponsor the tournament. Check out the CooperSmith`s web site at https://www.fortnet.org/~cooper/)
Date : July 6-7, 1996
Place : Fort Collins, Colorado (60 miles north of Denver)
Format : Three invited teams and one Colorado Select team will play a round robin format, with two games on the Saturday and one game on the Sunday. The top two teams will then play a final game for the trophy and title on the Sunday p.m. All matches will be played under normal cricket rules and will be composed of two innings of 20, eight ball overs with 4 overs per bowler. The team with the highest score wins - there are no draws, in the event of a tie there will be a bowl at the stump competition.
Playing Facilities : Fort Collins has two cricket facilities. The newest has a concrete wicket covered with artificial turf specially developed in England for cricket pitches. The other facil- ity also has a concrete wicket which is covered with matting. Both wickets are true and relatively fast; they offer the batsmen a consistent bounce with no surprises and the bowlers can move the ball off the pitch.
Cost : An entrance fee will be charged. This will consist of a refundable deposit which will cover the administrative costs, phone calls, correspondence, etc. in the event of a noshow. The deposit must be paid at the latest 8 weeks before the tournament (by May 11th, 1996). The remainder of the entrance fee will cover balls, trophies, lunches and drinks at the games and a party on the Saturday (a barbecue). The deposit will be approxi- mately $100 per team and the remainder will be a fee of $10 per head.
Accommodation : We are currently negotiating rates with a number of local motels and with Colorado State University. Normally rates are ~$45 to $50 + tax per night for a double room (or ~$25 per person) and we are hoping to bring this down with volume.
Meals : As stated earlier, lunches will be provided on both days and there will be a barbecue on the Saturday night. Food, beer and soft drinks at the barbecue are included in the cost. If enough people are interested, we may also offer a buffet meal at the awards ceremony on Sunday. This would follow after the final and would last until 7 or 8 p.m.
Weather : For those of you unfamiliar with Colorado in July, the weather will be in the 80s and low 90s with normal humidity in the 30-50% range. Although Colorado is almost a desert, we often get afternoon thunderstorms in the summer and the evenings can be relatively cool. Sunscreen and hats are a must and although we will be providing drinks and water, you can never get too much fluid.
More Details : For more details please contact Adam Bell, Secretary, Colorado Cricket League on email at Parahandy1@aol.com.
