England's selectors have named a twelve-man squad to represent the
First-Class Counties Select XI in a one-day tour fixture against
Sri Lanka A at the Riverside Ground, Durham on 28 July.
The squad is:
Team Manager: James Whitaker (Leicestershire)
The squad does not include players from the eight counties competing
in the NatWest Trophy quarter-final ties on the same day - Lancashire,
Yorkshire, Glamorgan, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Kent, Northamptonshire
and Surrey - or from Derbyshire, who are playing a one-day game against
New Zealand.
Commenting on the squad, Chairman of Selectors David Graveney said:
"This game should prove a very useful exercise as it will give us the
chance to see how players cope for a select XI, outside the environment
of their counties.
"In picking this side we have been keen to acknowledge the continuing
progress of the likes of Darren Maddy, while at the same time also
recognising players like Alamgir Sheriyar, who have forced their way onto
a higher stage by the strength of their performances.
"Equally, there have been plenty of good reports about the captaincy and
form of Chris Adams, and he deserves the chance to lead the side."
The match will be played in whites over fifty overs a side under
standard playing conditions for one-day matches involving touring sides.
