Jamaica Clubs: Teenager destroys Kingston

National Under-15 legspinner Wayne Gayle bagged five wickets at Emmet Park yesterday to pilot Lucas to an emphatic ten-wicket victory over Kingston in their two-day Rothman's Surrey Senior Cup fourth round match.

Gayle, 14, playing in only his second game in the Rothman's Surrey Senior Cup bagged five for ten from 11 overs to spearhead a dramatic collapse. Cruising along at 93 for two, and needing 11 runs to make Lucas bat again, Kingston lost eight wickets for a mere 15 runs leaving the east Kingston club a mere six runs for victory.

Gayle's victims included Mario Ventura bowled for 26, Valentino Ventura bowled for 15, Colin Connonair bowled for one, Nehemiah Perry leg before without scoring and Lloyd Black caught behind by captain Andre Coley for two.

National Representative Christopher Gayle, Wayne's older brother, was also among the wickets claiming 2-23, while pacer Anshumon Kentish followed up his first innings haul of five for 33 with two for 15.

Openers Christopher Gayle unbeaten on seven and Kevin Riley carried Lucas to victory off only three deliveries from pacer Dwight Mais. Gayle hit the third delivery over the cover boundary for a huge six.

Earlier, yesterday, Lucas continuing on their overnight 188 for seven, put on a further 48 runs with Delroy Morgan 65 not out, adding another 36 runs to be unbeaten on 101. His century included one six and twelve boundaries.

Gareth Breese with 43 and Garnett Murray 25 were the other batsmen to get into double figures against pacer Dwight Mais who on Saturday's first day accounted for Lucas's top six batsmen as he claimed six for 38 in a marathon 13 over spell before complaining for pains in his bowling arm. Spinner Kerry Scott took two for 36.

At Boys Town: St. Catherine defeated the home team by an innings and 189 runs.

Scores: Boys Town 66 (Shane Powell 23; Oneil Richards 4-11, Jermaine Lawson 4-23, Audley Sanson 2-16) and 66 (Herbert Haye 14 n.o.; Jermaine Lawson 5-17, Sanson 2-16, Richrads 2-16); St. Catherine 322-6 declared (Tony Powell 167).

At Elletson Road: Police defeated St. Thomas by two wickets after conceding first innings points.

At Folly Oval: Portland gained first innings points over the Jamaica Defence Force.
