Former Australian Test leg-spinner Terry Jenner will conduct a course
for wrist spinners for the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) at the
Cricket Centre in Antigua from tomorrow until August 9.
Jenner, regarded as one of the leading authorities on the art of
wrist spin, was instrumental in developing the skills of Australian
spinners Shane Warne and Stuart MacGill.
Participants in the course, who were chosen by the WICB selection
panel, are Mahendra Nagamootoo and Ramnaresh Sarwan (Guyana), Rawl
Lewis and Camilus Alexander (Grenada) and Dinanath Ramnarine and
Avidesh Samaroo (Trinidad and Tobago). Wayne Phillip (Dominica) will
act as wicketkeeper during the course.
The senior cricket coaches in Antigua have been invited to attend
sessions of the workshop in order to familiarise themselves with the
methods Jenner has used so successfully in the development of
wrist-spin bowling.
WICB director of coaching Reggie Scarlett said, "this course should
be of the highest quality considering the calibre of those taking
part and the reputation of the tutor".
"We will be doing our utmost to maintain this standard when the fast
bowling, wicketkeeping, batting and orthodox spin bowling camps are
held in September," he said.
