Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lakshman Kiriella will be elected
President uncontested at the annual general meeting of the
Association of Cricket Umpires to be held on May 8 at the banquet
hall of the BMICH.
When nominations closed, only Mr. Kiriella's name was submitted for
the post of president. In addition D.L. Weerasinghe will be elected
uncontested as the assistant assignments secretary.
However ten umpires are in the fray for the vice presidents' posts
out of which only five will be elected. The ten candidates are D.H.M.
Dissanayake, T. Junkeer, E.K.G. Wijewardena, Saman Amarasinghe,
M.D.D.N. Gunaratne, D.N. Pathirana, W.A.U. Wickramasinghe, Daya
Boteju, A.J. Jayasundera and Ignatius Anandappa.
Meanwhile Dickie Dunuwille and Ryle de Silva will contest for the
post of general secretary while Christy Silva and C de S. Weerakkody
will contest the post of assistant general secretary. S. Ponnuthurai
and E.K.G. Wijewardena will contest the post of treasurer.
The two umpires contesting for the post of assistant treasurer are
M.S.C. Salgado and D.L.Wanaguru. Those contesting for the committee
are Siri Fernando, B.K. Ramachandra, T. Massalage, Wasantha
Ariyawickrema, Rohitha Kottachchi, U.N. Rodrigo, D.G.J. Welikala,
A.S. Hettiarachchi, A.G. Udahage, Lester Fernando, S.L. Gunaratne,
S.S.K. Perera, L.H. Sunil, H.J. Caldera, M.A.D. Kumar and Philip
Mendis.
