Javed Miandad announces retirement
Pakistan cricket star Javed Miandad today announced his retirement from international cricket, alleging that his skills were not properly utilised during the Wills World Cup.
"They could have used me better," the only player to have taken part in all six editions of the World Cup so far told newsmen. "I was pushed down the order and forced to bat at number six, instead of sending me to bat at number three or four."
Miandad, 38, also felt that he should have been asked to lead Pakistan against India when captain Wasim Akram was rendered unfit due to a side strain, instead of giving the reins to the inexperienced Aamir Sohail.
It was a crucial match, and I think I should have been asked to captain the side," Miandad complained.
The Pakistan star said he would continue to play domestic cricket for his employers, Habib Bank, and added that the current side had the potential to be one of the top teams in international cricket.
