Namibia has joined Bangladesh 'A' at the top of the Malaysian Tri-Series
table following its four wicket win over the home side in Kuala Lumpur
today.
After the end of the first round of matches, in which every team has played
each other, Bangladesh 'A' and Namibia are level on three points after
earning points from a win and a No Result, while Malaysia languishes at the
bottom with no points after two defeats.
After skittling Malaysia for 93 all-out in 42.3 overs, the Africans seemed
poised for an uneventful victory. Drama struck with the scores level, when
Namibia lost three wickets to slide to 93-6. A boundary gave Namibia
victory.
Namibia opening bowler, Walter Rautenbach, snared the Man-of-the-Match
award.
Today's win will help erase the frustration of yesterday's match which was
abandoned through to rain after Namibia had reached a promising position
against Bangladesh 'A'.
Namibia won the toss and elected to bat first at the Royal Selangor Club.
Thanks to 39 each from Darren Seager and Lennie Louw, Namibia compiled 209
all-out. Seager was run-out after smoting his 39 off 44 balls, which
included four sixes. Melt van Schoor also assisted with 33.
Bangladesh 'A' captain, Naimur Rehman, was the pick of the bowlers, taking
3-38, while Mohammed Rafique nabbed 2-30.
A rain interruption caused Bangladesh 'A''s target to be reduced to 173 off
35 overs. When furher rainfall caused the match to be abandoned, Bangladesh
'A' was struggling at 49-3. Naimur Rehman scored 21. No Man-of-the-Match
award was given.
The tournament began ingloriously for the home-team with a 97 run loss to
Bangladesh 'A' at Kuala Lumpur's Club Aman ground on Friday.
Bangladesh 'A' skipper, Naimur Rehman, began a Man-of-the-Match award
winning display by winning the toss and choosing to bat.
He followed this up by scoring 43 in his team's total of 222-9 off its
allotted 50 overs. Mohammed Rotwali top-scored on 47 not-out.
Malaysian bowler, Muniandy, was his team's top wicket-taker, with 4-31.
In reply, Malaysia crawled to 125-9 from its 50 overs with Ramesh Menon
making 26.
That man, Rehman, ensured he clinched his award with 3-20.
Malaysia will looking to win its match against Bangladesh 'A' tomorrow to
stay in contention for Thursday's final. Tomorrow's match is the start of
the 'second round' in which all teams play each other a second time.
