KARACHI, June 9: The Pakistan A team for a seven-week tour of
England will be announced on Wednesday, Chairman of Selectors,
Salim Altaf, said on Monday.
The former Test pacer added that either he will fly into Karachi
on Wednesday or his two colleagues, Zaheer Abbas and Haroon
Rasheed, will come down to Lahore. "In any case, the team will
be finalised by Wednesday and may be released the same evening,"
Altaf added. Altaf said he has received details about the talent
hunt done by Haroon Rasheed and Agha Zahid in various parts of
the country.
"I have the list and it will be discussed on Wednesday," he
added. Salim Altaf also spelt out the selection policy. "For
example, if we want Mohammad Wasim to accompany the team to Sri
Lanka for the Asia Cup next month, he will not be considered for
selection for the England tour because it is going to be sheer
waste of money. The same will be the policy with other
cricketers.
"I don't think many senior cricketers will be selected. Instead,
we will depend on youngsters who have performed well in the past
couple of junior tours. We want to maintain the process of
continuity. "The captain of the team may also be amongst one of
the junior cricketers. However, I must make it clear here that
it is the prerogative of the PCB Executive Council to appoint a
captain," Altaf stated.
