Winners in 1992 in the golden era of Imran, Wasim and Waqar, Pakistan almost made it again in 1999 only to play one of the worst finals in history and it's that kind of inconsistency that makes them so difficult to read again this year.

There is no doubt that they possess more talented individuals than almost any other side. Mohammad Yousuf is a world-class batsman, as is Inzamam-ul-Haq, even if the loss of Shoaib Akhtar is a blow.

The biggest question is whether Inzamam can get the best out of his players and make them come good at the same time, improving a recent record of 10 wins from their past 20 games.

Their openers have not been up to scratch of late, putting pressure on the middle order, who can usually handle it but that is an awful lot to ask them to do time after time, in a World Cup pressure situation.

Their bowling will be missing a leader and though they too have plenty of talent, they are perhaps a little raw.

Player to watch: Mohammad Yousuf
At the age of 32, Yousuf is in the prime of his batting life and though his averall average is just below 42, which is still good, it's up to 54 in the past 20 matches.

He keeps the Pakistan batting together - along with Inzamam - and if he is on song, they will make runs. Pakistan have always been good at defending targets; it's chasing them that is the problem, but he is the man they will rely on.
