U-19 cricketers to leave for S. A. on Jan 12
LAHORE, Dec. 30: The 15-member Pakistan under-19 team will leave
for South Africa from Karachi on Jan 12.
The manager and coach of the side former Test cricketer and now
national selector Haroon Rashid told this correspondent that
after playing the two one-day international matches against the
visiting England Under-19 side at Gujranwala (Jan 4) and Sialkot
(Jan 6), the team will move to Karachi on Jan 7 to play the last
match of the series at the National Stadium, Karachi on Jan 8.
While replying to a question from this correspondent, Haroon
Rashid said that the travel and other necessary documents were
being finalised. He said that the vaccination of all members of
the team against yellow fever will be done at Karachi on Jan 9.
The tour will begin with the three-day side match against North
West Under-19 team at Potchefstroom from Jan 16 and conclude with
the last one-day international match at Cape Town on Feb. 23.
The complete programme of Pakistan under-19 team`s tour of South
Africa is: Jan 16 to 18, 1997: vs. north-west Under-19 side at
Potchefstroom. Jan 20 to 22: vs. Easterns under-19 XI at Benoni.
Jan 25 to 28: First unofficial Test at East London. Jan 31 to
Feb. 2: vs. Northern Transvaal under-19 team at Centurion. Feb.
6 to 9: Second unofficial Test at Bloemfontein. Feb. 14 to 17:
Third unofficial Test at Durban. Feb. 19: First one-day
interna- tional (ODI) at Kimberley. Feb. 22: Second one-day
international at Paarl. Feb. 23: Third one-day international at
Cape Town.
The team consists of: Captain Ahmar Saeed, wicketkeeper Mohammad
Shakeel, Farhan Adil, Saeed Anwar Junior, Shahid Qambrani, Mohammad Saleem, Shadab Kabir, Hasan Raza, Bayazid Khan, Abdul Razzaq,
Fazle Akbar, Waqas Ahmad, Imran Tahir, Shaoib Malik, Atif Irfan.
