Present Status of Sanath Jayasuriya's Injury

The National Coach Mr. Tom Moody whilst in the process of team building prior to the departure of the Sri Lanka National team to India arranged a trip down South coast to participate in a Water Sports event. Sanath whilst participating in the said event met with an accident attributing to a shoulder injury which was not brought to the notice of the panel of Selectors or SLC management at any stage.
Sanath despite the injury, did proceed with the Sri Lanka National team to India to participate in the One Day Series.
The Tour Selectors on tour, despite his injury did select him to play in the 1st ODI match and his body movement whilst bowling and fielding made it evident that his performance was below par.
Sanath's performance throughout the tour during the ODI Series either in batting, bowling or fielding was not upto expected standard, obviously owing to his shoulder injury. The panel of National Selectors therefore decided to keep him out of the Indian Test Series so that he could obtain proper medical treatment and recover from the injury to be considered for the New Zealand Tour.
An independent opinion was sought from Dr. Phaneesha at Apollo hospitals whilst Sanath was undergoing treatment where the said Specialist states that he should not bowl for 3 weeks but he may bat.
The panel of National Selectors having taken into consideration the medical opinion has selected him to tour New Zealand subject to a fitness test prior to the Team's departure.
