The South Africa cricket team are to donate 17, 200-00 Rand to the South African Police Services Widows and Orphans Fund.
The money was raised through a raffle during the final day of the fourth Test match against West Indies at Centurion Park. The prize was a framed set of three playing shirts: a 2003 World Cup top, a new Test one, and the current one-day shirt. All three were signed by the respective squad members.
Tickets were sold at 30 Rand each and at the end of the day, Francois van Zyl, from Pretoria, was picked out as the lucky winner.
"The SAPS are a fantastic unit, and this is our way of expressing our appreciation and for the tireless work they do for all of us in this great country," Graeme Smith, South Africa's captain, said. "The men and women of the SAPS put in huge hours all year round, often at great risk to themselves, in ensuring that all South Africans are protected. I would also like to thank the thousands of cricket supporters who bought tickets during the Test."
