Schaffter's slot ratified
The Minister of Samurdi, Youth Affairs & Sports, S.B. Dissanayake has
ratified the appointment of Chandra Schaffter as new Manager of the
Sri Lanka cricket team for the Triangular one day international home
series and for a three-Test home series against Australia.
Schaffter, the chief of Janashakthi Insurance, takes over from former
Sri Lanka captain Duleep Mendis, the longest serving Manager of the
Sri Lanka Test team.
Upali-general secretary NSAAA
Mr. H. A. Upali of Bank of Ceylon, attached to International Division
has been elected General Secretary of the Nationalised Services
Amateur Athletic Association. Upali is serving as a Committee Member
of the Association since 1985 and is Athletic Secretary of the Bank of
Ceylon Sports Club since 1983.
He has represented the Bank at National Services Athletic meets during
the past and has won several medals. He has been awarded Bank colours
for athletics.
U-17 'semis' today
The Singer trophy under-17 Division two cricket tournament semi-finals
will be worked off today. Basilica College Ragama will take on St.
John's Panadura at Viharamaha Devi Park while St. Mary's Kegalle will
meet Asoka MV Colombo at Colts CC grounds, Havelock Park.
