Sixteen players to Australia
The national cricket selectors have extended the Sri Lanka squad to
Australia to 16 players by including SSC's left-arm fast-medium
bowler Ruchira Perera.
Cricket Board sources said, the decision for an additional player was
made because England were also putting out a squad of 16 players for
the Carlton and United World Series Cup triangular.
The triangular commences on January 11 with host Australia, England
and Sri Lanka competing.
The Sri Lanka team led by Arjuna Ranatunga leaves for Australia on
December 28.
Moratuwa hit back

Moratuwa under-17 hit back strongly to make 127 for 1 in reply to
Kent's 228 for 7 declared in their 2-day match which began at the De
Soysa stadium yesterday.
Scores:
Kent 228 for 7 dec. 68 overs, 239 mts (K. Lincon 103 n.o., D.
Thirkwell 34, I. Playfoot 28, M. Bandara 2 for 27, G. Cooray 2 for
37, M. Fernando 2 for 58).

Fifteen teams enter KDCA tourney

Fifteen teams have entered the George Hemachandra trophy inter-club
limited over cricket tournament organised by the Kandy District
Cricket Association which will get under way later this month.
At a press briefing held at the Kandy Regional Board Office the
President of the KDCA, Tillina Tennakoon, said that this tournament
is expected to be concluded by the end of February 1999. The grounds
and umpires fees will be borne by the KDCA and the matches will be
restricted to 45 over per side and a minimum of 20 overs must be
faced by the team batting second to arrive at a result in a rain
interrupted match. If the team batting second had not batted 20 overs
then the result will be decided by the toss of a coin. If a match
called off without a ball being bowled the match will be re-played.
The teams which have entered this tournament which is being conducted
after a lapse of two years are:
Kandy Municipal Council SC, Kandy Youths CC, Bank of Ceylon SC,
Galagedara CC, Old Rajans SC, Saracens CC, Prison SC, Old Trinitians
SC, Police SC, Commercial Bank SC, Kandy CC, Madawala United SC, Old
Antonians SC, Old Sylvestrians SC, University SC who have received a
bye.
