at the Panadura Esplanade yesterday.

Tharindu Mendis 1000 runs
Prolific run getter Tharindu Mendis of Ananda Sastralaya Kotte has
completed one thousand runs for the current inter school cricket
season.
He reached this golden mark with his seventh half century during the
game against Moratu MV which was his ninth outing in the Elephant
Lemonade Cup Division two cricket tournament. In addition he has a
top score of 195 runs against S. Thomas' College 'A' and scored 118
in the second innings of the same match.
His third century was against S. Thomas' College Kotte where he
compiled an unbeaten knock of 111. Tharindu Mendis scored half
centuries against Piliyandala MV (63), St. John's Panadura (54 and
84), Siri Piyarathna MMV (84), Royal Panadura (52 and 77), Moratu MV
(83). He has also captured a total of 30 wickets so far in the
season.

A fighting half century by C. Hewavitharana (58) helped Sri
Jayawardenapura MV reach 212 runs in their first innings on the
opening day of their 'Battle of Kotte' cricket encounter against the
traditional rivals S. Thomas' College Kotte which began at the R.
Premadasa Stadium yesterday.
In addition V. Silva, S.A.D. Indika, D. Jayaweera and W. Silva also
made good contributions for Sri Jayawardenapura MV. M. Perera (3 for
22), S. Fernando (2 for 40) and D. Peiris (2 for 32) took the bowling
honours for S. Thomas' College.
In reply the Thomians were 28 for no loss. The match will be
continued at 9.45 a.m today.

cricket champions, and a week away from their 'Big Match' against St.
Joseph's, gave a tidy performance in their cricket encounter against
St. Anthony's College Katugastota scoring 207 and claimed 3 Antonian
wickets for 40 at Bambalapitiya yesterday.
St. Peter's who on electing to bat were 5 for 102 topped 200 runs
through a valuable half century by opener Jehan Jayasuriya and two
useful thirties from Gavin Lodewyke and Malin Silva.
Prasad Jayawardena (5 for 38) and Suranga Pinnaduwa (4 for 58) bowled
well for St. Anthony's College.

Kandy District CA denies

The Annual General Meeting of the Kandy District Cricket Association
was never disrupted by an unruly elements or squads and it went on
smoothly, states the President of the Kandy District CA Mr. Tillina
Tennakoon.
Mr. Tillina Tennakoon who is also the People's Alliance's Chief
Organiser for the Senkadagala electorate was referring to a report
published in a Sunday newspaper (not Lake House Group of Newspapers)
to the effect that the AGM of several affiliates of the Cricket Board
including Kandy was disrupted by some influential persons. In fact
this year's AGM was the most peaceful with all the officials being
elected uncontested and some of the proposal of names being seconded
by the other camp. There were even representatives from the Police
Sports Clubs concluded, Tillina Tennakoon.
