Sri Lanka rest Nuwan Zoysa for the second test

The Sri Lankan selectors have decided to rest Nuwan Zoysa for the second test match starting 04:30GMT at the Galle International Stadium and have recalled Ravindra Pushpakumara. Zoysa has had fitness problems in recent times and the selectors felt, in the long term interests of the team, it was better he did not play so soon after the first test match.

The Sri Lankans are expected to play two fast bowlers and two spinners in Galle. That means that Dilhara Fernando may not play and Rangana Herath will probably partner Mutiah Muralitharan.

The batsmen are to be given another chance but another failure is likely to lead to widespread changes. Arjuna Ranatunga and Russel Arnold appear to be under the greatest pressure at the moment.

Romesh Kaluwitharana is also under pressure and desperately needs some runs if he is not be replaced by Prasanna Jayawardena for the third test match.
