New Zealand might have failed to make the most of their batting opportunities in their second two-day match against Sri Lanka A yesterday, but captain Stephen Fleming was still confident his side could do well in the two-Test series.
Winning Test matches in Sri Lanka was one of his greatest challenges, he said.
"We haven't played a Test match for a while, so it is going to be exciting and we'll enjoy it. We have a good enough team to win," he said after their second game yesterday.
The team's requirement was simple.
"We need big runs, about 500 runs to win a game over here so our guys spent a long time in this heat and these conditions," he said.
That was what they would be looking to do in the Test match. He would have preferred that better practice facilities were available for the side, but the requirement in the two days before the first Test starts in Colombo on Friday, Anzac Day - a national holiday in remembrance of New Zealand's war servicemen, would be making the most of what time was available.
"We have come to grips with the heat to a point. We are reasonably content," he said.
While the opposition for the warm-up games had been reasonably strong there was still a need for hard work ahead of the team.
"Mark Richardson showed some good form. It was one of the plusses in the four days. I hope the other guys get runs in the Test match.
"Shane Bond bowled pretty well. He's pretty quick no matter what surfaces he plays on and [Daniel] Vettori had a good bowl. He is certainly going to be a key man, and all the guys got some wickets under their belts," Fleming said.
