Youth Asia Cup cricket tourney starts tomorrow

The Youth Asia Cup 1999 will be played in Singapore from July 5 to
11. There are eight teams divided into two groups of four teams each.
Group 'A': Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates.
Group 'B': Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Thailand and Nepal.
The Youth Asia Cup 1999 is a preliminary qualifier for the Youth
World Cup 2000 in Sri Lanka.
The matches tomorrow (Monday July 5): 'A' Group - Bangladesh vs Hong
Kong at Kallang; Malaysia vs U.A.E. at Singapore Recreation Club;
Group 'B': Papua New Guinea vs Singapore at Ceylon Sports Club;
Thailand vs Nepal at Singapore Indian Association.
Kallang Oval, Singapore Recreation Club and Singapore Cricket Club
have turf wickets, while Singapore Indian Association and Ceylon
Sports Club have astro turf.
The Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka has been the driving
force for this tournament in their endeavour to raise the standards
in the Asian region.
The Board has nominated the undermentioned to officiate as match
referees and umpires for the Youth Asia Cup in Singapore: Match
Referees - Asantha de Mel, Amal Silva.
Umpires: Asoka de Silva, Gamini de Silva, L. V. Jayasundera and T. H.
Wijewardene.
