Cross Arrows Cricket Team News & Matches
Prior to 1880, the Lord's staff played a few matches away from headquarters under the name St John's Wood Ramblers, but the story goes that there was another side using that name and so in 1880 it was decided to change it. A match against Northwood CC near Harrow had been arranged, and when asked for directions, someone was told it was "cross 'Arrow way". It stuck.
The side is made up of employees of MCC as full members and others (such as MCC members) and to this day all home matches (and there are very few played away) take place on the Nursery ground at Lord's. The complete fixture list runs to 15+ matches and the season only starts in September when the main ground starts to be put to bed for the winter, finishing as late as early October.
Many top players have turned out for them, and until recently it was common to see various Middlesex players enjoying a game
