Asia Cup 2012 March 3, 2012

Nasir Jamshed, Sarfraz Ahmed in Pakistan squad

ESPNcricinfo staff

Pakistan have dropped Shoaib Malik, Imran Farhat and Adnan Akmal from the squad that lost the ODIs 4-0 to England, and picked opener Nasir Jamshed and wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed for the Asia Cup in Bangladesh. Fast bowler Junaid Khan was not considered for selection because he was sidelined with a knee injury.

The 15-man squad was the first selection by the committee headed by Iqbal Qasim, who replaced Mohammad Ilyas as chief selector. The selectors had met with Pakistan's new coach Dav Whatmore, whose first assignment will be the Asia Cup, in Lahore on March 2 to pick the team.

"We have selected the best possible squad for the Asia Cup in the shortest time available, and since Malik was an additional member for the England series we couldn't find a place for him in the 15-man squad," Qasim said. "We did consult Misbah and he agreed to the selection.

"We had to maintain the balance keeping view of the pitches in Bangladesh. But now we have to compete with quality teams, especially Sri Lanka, who returned to form, and India will obviously come hard after the Australia tour."

Jamshed has played 12 ODIs for Pakistan, the last of which was in August 2009. He has just been in Bangladesh, where he played for the Chittagong Kings in the BPL. Before going to Bangladesh, Jamshed had scored 320 runs at 53.33 in four matches for Punjab in the Pentangular Cup, a first-class competition in Pakistan. Sarfraz replaced Adnan Akmal as the specialist wicketkeeper in the squad; he played for Pakistan as recently as December 2011, during the tour of Bangladesh.

"Jamshed earned his recall only after he has done well in the domestic circuit as an opener," Qasim said. "There was an added pressure on Umar [Akmal] and this is why he might not giving his best with the bat. He always was selected as a designated batsman, we wanted a batting wicketkeeper who can bat effectively in ODIs to score quick runs."

Qasim said that the Asia Cup would be Sarfraz's last chance to seal his place in the Pakistan team. "It's our inability that we don't have a batting wicketkeeper but this would be the last chance for [Sarfraz Ahmed] to step up and do well with the bat. Otherwise, after the series, we are starting the talent hunt for an all-round wicketkeeper."

While Junaid's absence from the squad may have been forced, the other three - Malik, Farhat and Adnan Akmal did not perform impressively against England in the UAE. Malik, who was not in Pakistan's original ODI and Twenty20 squads against England but included later at the request of the captain Misbah-ul-Haq, averaged 15 in two one-dayers. Farhat scored 66 runs in three matches, while Adnan Akmal played only two ODIs; his brother Umar kept in the matches that Adnan was not selected for.

But I say that because of his First Class stats He should have been the one to play in the Tests ahead of Adnan, Salman. The question that people should be asking is that why and how did Adnan & Salman get all the opportunities before Sarfraaz in Test matches.

How can we keep 3 slow , less than run a ball players, in the Pakistani One day squad. Younis Khan should be dropped man. Mishbah & Younis, two logs on one day teams shoulders - adding Azhar Ali will just screw our chances. This is the age of 300 plus scores in one days. You cant expect 250 from this kind of side.

Sarfaraz should be given chance to keep in Test as well. Adnan is fine, but not as aggresive as Sarfaraz. They should have tried Imran Nazir in place of Hafeez. We lacked aggresion against England and Imran Nazir is the right kind of opener and a fantastic fielder as well. Putting Hafeez in the team as top order batsmen only because he can be a backup bowler is a bad strategy. We have 2 of the best spinners in the business and then Afridi. Umar Akmal should be continued with, we need some aggression. If his head is in the right place, he can make a decent contribution. Misbah's place is also questionable with his style of batting but ... cant drop the captain right? Younis and Asad can play the less aggressive but still 'run-a-ball' role to keep things tidy. Hammad looked decent so should get continued opportunity as all-rounder.

We are hurting really bad in the pace attack. Is PCB doing anythign to expedite the return of Mohammed Amir ??????????????

I wonder when team management will realize Hafeez should not open the innings, he gave one good start out of 50 attempts. He is a very good bowler so he should be used an all rounder and should be moved down to the order and we should open with genuine openers, like Ahmed Shehzad, Nasir Jamshed, Imran Nazir etc.

Sarfraz was and is much better wicket keeper than Adnan.I still don't understand why after dumb wicket keeper like Kamran he was not given chance and instead Zoulqarnan then Adnan then Salman and then again Adnan were given chances. As per Rashid Latif Sarfraz has been the number one wicket keeper in the Pakistan since last 3 to 4 years but poor man were not given proper chance.Few matches here and there then kicked out !!! He has been performing very well both as keeper and batsman on domestice level sinec last several years and whener given chance on inetrnational level he has already proven better wicket keeper then kamran, salman and adnan.Give him proper chance (don't make threats like this is last chance) and he will prove a good batsman on international level too, remember he has been scoring centuries and even double century on domestic level.Misbah and Azhar should not be included in ODI/T20. M. Sami should be given another chance.AFRIDI SHOULD BE THE CAPATIN OF ODI/T20 TEAM.

Pakistan has selected the best possible squad for the Asia Cup tournament. The inclusion of Nasir Jamshed is plausible and justifiable. He has performed well both in the domestic circuit and in Bangladhesh. There is no qualms over his selection.Safraz Ahmed also deserves a place as he is a competent keeper and also a capable batsman who could bat reasonably well to keep the scoreboard ticking. It is rather unfortunate that Ahmed Shehzad has not been given an opportunity to prove his worth. He is a hard hitting opening batsman in the mould of Saeed Anwer. He need to be given adequate opportunities to develop confidence and to prime himself as an aggressive opening batsman. He is undoubtedly a very promising prospect for Pakistan-an uncut gem stone.Whatmore should be able to polish and refine him to become a valuable product. This is a challenge to Whatmore and I am sure he will accomplish the task of nurturing Ahmed Shehzad to bloom.

  • Sports4Youth on March 5, 2012, 13:28 GMT

@ Amire Khan :- Shoeb Akhtar's retirement was hastened by Kamran Akmal and Waqar Younis. In the NZ game when Kami dropped Ross Taylor twice in two deliveries. Akhtar was furious. Any fast bowler will be. After all the fast bowlers put in so much effort in their deliveries. Unconfimed news is that he had a serious scuffle with Kami in the dressing room. Now here Waqar played the villain. He sided with Kamran and banned Akhter from playing the remaining matches. At that time Afridi did not understand how to react and kept quite instead of supporting Akhtar. Afridi further wanted to drop Kamran in the next match, but Waqar got in the way. Afridi still wanted to persist with this decision and wanted to give the gloves to Umar Akmal. But Umar feigned injury. And Afridi was left cornered. Then, in the next series of WI he decided that he will not tolerate the arrogant Waqar any more. And what followed was the spat between Afridi-Waqar. Waqar had to resign.

  • Sports4Youth on March 5, 2012, 13:06 GMT

Mr.Qasim, why are you dragging your feet on the buring issue of captaincy in ODI's & T20's.? Misball (Misbah) was only a stop gap arrangement to get over the controversy of Afridi-Waqar+Ilyas. Now it is becommiing a cronich problem. It effects the batting order seriously. Also please consider this. Sarfraz has a batting average of 44 in first class matches, it means he is adapt at scoring slowly but getting lot of runs. Why can't you give the role of Younis and Misball to Sarfraz. That makes more sense. That way you can bring in a hard hitter in place of Younis & Misball. They they will be happier to score quickly.

  • Sports4Youth on March 5, 2012, 13:00 GMT

Regarding the Comment of LAST CHANCE TO SARFRAZ made by Qasim. I wonder why he does not issue such statements of last chance to players like Younis Khan & Misbah in ODI's. After all these players occupy the most important position in the middle order, they consume the maximum deliveries and produce the minimum runs. And after that why should the lower order be burdened with scoring lots of runs and that too quickly. WHY SHOULD SARFRAZ BE BURDENED WITH SCORING LOTS OF RUNS AND THAT TOO QUICKLY.? WHY SHOULD YOUNIS AND MISBAH CONTINUE WITH THE LUXURY OF WASTING SO MANY DELIVERIES WITHOU SCORING MUCH ?. And to top it all they also want Azhar Ali in the Mix. I think Azhar Ali can be a replacement for Younis or Misbah but he shold not play along with them in the same. match.

  • Sports4Youth on March 5, 2012, 12:02 GMT

By making such reckless and disturbing statement like - LAST CHANCE, I fear that Iqbla Qasim may be actually clearing the deck for Kamran. Even in the earlier seires's Misbah ensured that Sarfraz did not settle down, by constantly dropping him and giving the gloves to Umar Akmal. Now by putting this undue pressure Qasim wants to ensure that Sarfraz should not settle down. So that in the end they can say that they tried everything now they have no option but to go back to the old Villain (Kami).

  • Sports4Youth on March 5, 2012, 11:55 GMT

@ Happy_AusBang on (March 05 2012, 09:19 AM GMT) :- This has been an old problem for Pak selectors. They do not understand the difference between a Test Batsman and an ODI Batsman. When a player does well in Tests, they think that automatically he should be in ODI's. This they have been doing for the last 12 years with Younis Khan. Though Younis was never suited for limited overs cricket. Now they want to repeat the same old mistake with Azhar Ali. At this rate pakistan will loose more and more matches in the limited overs format. They have to change their strategy. Take a look at Australia, England & SA. That is why they have separate captains in all formats. So that unnecessary players should not be in the team just because they happen to be the Captain.

  • Fayss on March 5, 2012, 11:49 GMT

I am very happy with the team selection at this stage. I am surprised to see negative mindset over Misbah and so much appeal towards 'Afridi and Ahmed Shehzad'. Malik and Farhat were the liabilities in the squad and its good to see that they are removed from our team. Nasir Jamshed is a consistent performer, he doesn't have peaks or troughs in his career and he performs on the consistent basis in the team. The question appears why over Ahmed Shehzad? Simply because he is mature enough to handle the pressure. Cheema deserve the place to be in squad, give the boys another chance. Not every day is winning day and this guy cheema who spent so much time in domestic circuit give him time. He'll rock the cricket world I have a feel for him. I am not so optimistic with Wahab Riaz but I believe we have the power to switch off the lights of other Asian teams. Sarfaraz show the Akmals who is the best keeper. Pakistan Zindabad!

  • I.F.Butt on March 5, 2012, 11:46 GMT

If there was someone I would like to see in the squad, then it was Sharjeel Khan who plays for Pakistan A. He is a young agressive batsman and looks very promising. But the selectors probably have not seen enough him yet, but watch out for him, he will be in the squad soon.

Other then that the team is very balanced, Jamshed had a great domestic season so its fair to give him a chance. I would love to see Hammad Azam up the order, Pakistan must utilise him well, a definite match winner he is! Also would rather want to see Fawad Alam in one day then Azhar Ali, PCB are ignoring his great talent! My ODI 11: 1. M.Hafeez 2. N.Jamshed 3. Y.Khan 4. U.Akmal 5. M.Ul-haq 6. H.Azam 7. S.Afridi 8. S.Ahmed(wk) 9. W.Riaz 10. U.Gul 11. S.Ajmal

i think pak side not good for other asian side. because the pakistan openers are very key for asian match. Ex. India sachin/gambir, Srilanka Dilshan/tharanga and pak who is the best? the 2015 world cup will be held Ausralia. So, we want build a great openers. Pak will not identify great openers saeed and Aamir. So this is time for the find the openers and new coach. we need a great openers I think pak will win this tour.

  • Happy_AusBang on March 5, 2012, 9:19 GMT

I am disappointed at the selection of Azhar Ali for the ODIs. Here is a good orthodox batsman which is a rarity in Pakistan and they are going to spoil him by getting him to change his game for ODIs. I suppose their hand is forced because there is a dearth of batting talent in Pakistan currently.

Other than that, I don't see what else the selectors could have done. The other question mark is who will be the hard hitters down the order to take advantage of the final overs? They can't rely on Afridi who is a hit or miss.

  • on March 5, 2012, 7:31 GMT

The selectors have chosen the same old players that did so bad in the one days against England. Why have they selected Aizaz Cheema and Wahab Riaz? They are both pathetic bowlers. One can't get a wicket and the other one just goes for too many runs. They should have given chance to some new bowlers.

And why they haven't selected Ahmed Shehzad in the team? He proved his worth in BBL. Anyways I don't think this Pakistani team is capable of doing well in the Asian cup mainly because of pathetic fast bowlers and very weak batting line up as they can't even score 250 runs.

The team with the best batting line up will win the Asia cup. Therefore India or Sri Lanka will definitely be the winners!

  • alonetiger on March 5, 2012, 7:10 GMT

how will u win against india and srilanka when u have ugly and slow players like misbah(missball) azhar ali and younis (only test player) in this side.i dont know whta happend to the pakistan selectors that they ignored imran nazir, ahmad shehzad sort of players who shown their abilities in cricketing world recently. and if we see the wicket keeping matter,it seems like they have only one option to choose the keeper from akmal brothers only, now sarfaraz is there but i m afraid he cannot hit the ball in ODI ,he is jst a test kind of will come up in asia cup..

Whatever the team is, the leader should be an influential person. As a matter of fact we don't have any. Thinking brain is the order of the day but not a pathetic defensive thinking. World is scoring hundreds and hunting them as well in chase and look the hell at out strategy. I really feel pity on cricket lovers who have to waste lot of time to see FARIG players in Green. The pakistan selection committee only made two basic decisions ...that probably nasir jamshed was better than owais and that sarfraz is a better keeper although his batting at international level has not been that great...he should be given a longer tryout to see if his batting improves with constant coaching...mohd hafeez and umar akmal also did not do well with teh bat and should have been rested...there are enough spinners in teh team...shehzad ahmed is also much more likely to hit a better score than mohammed hafeez...rahat ali has a good domestic bowling record and should have been slotted in for either azeem cheema or wahab riaz who looked ordinary in his sole outing in UAE...if u slot in rahat ali another multani by the way and shezad ahmed for mohd hafeez and umar akmal the team becomes stronger...after inzamam... multanis have been dependent on sfarish rather than performance...

Though, i would congratulate new selection committee for getting rid of Imran farhat, Shoaib Malik and Adnan Akmal, I am baffled by the stupid comments of Iqbal Qasim regarding last chance for Sarfaraz Ahmed. The poor lad played only 3 matches in SL ODI series, unfortunate to get a horrendous lbw in one match where he was leading Pakistan to a run chase victory, contributed well with Afridi in another match when they built a match saving partnership, what else they expect from him in limited chances, difficult situations and in a position where he was not given the required confidence level. He is the best wicketkeeper batsman available right now and if he has been given consistent run in both tests and ODIs ahead of salman ahmed ( salman is a top wicketkeeper but his batting is well below par) and annoying chatterbox parchi adnan akmal, he would have proved his worth to everyone who doubt his abilities.

@ Yawar Faraz on (March 04 2012, 17:25 PM GMT) :- Actually Sarfraz is getting a raw deal. Inspite of beng the best wicket keeper in Pakistan as assured by Rashid Latif, Sarfraz has a batting average of 44 in first class matches. Adnan Akmal is no where near him. Still due to some strange reasons selectors went first to Zulkarnain (he was not bad), then Adnan then Salman and then back to Adnan. Very Strange. Sarfraz should have been first chosen for Tests from their he would gain in confidence as it suits him more, then he could have been bourght into ODI's. Even today Sarfraz is a better wicket keeper and batsman than Adnan for Tests. Even in ODI he can perform provided Misbah handles him properly.

t20 team 1.nazir 2.awais 3.shafiq 4.umar 5.kamran 6.afridi 7.razzaq 8.rehman 9.riaz 10.gul 11.ajmal. the Odi team should be younis khan instead of awais. and kamran akmal and imran nazir should open batting. muhamed hafeez should be thrown out of the Odi and t20 team because his batting is a disgrace 23 runs in 3 matches with 2 zeros. 61 runs in 4 matches for Odi's. until pakistan dont get rid of these players and get a top class coach to look after umar akmal awais zia and hammad azzam there talent will be wasted.

For all the fans of Mohd.Sami, I have read many comments here asking for the inclusion of M.Sami in the team for Asia Cup. With great respect to all you fans, I must say that my view on this question is different. Mohd.Sami has been given too many chances, more than any other Pak player inspite of his continues failures. Now he is over the hill. Even the last opportunity he got against South Afrca in 2010 in UAE he was absolutely dissapointing. New Medium pacer Tanvir Ahmed proved better than Sami in the same match. But I must admit that after that Tanvir Ahmd did not get a fair opportunity and got dumped for no fault of his. This is the problem with Pak Selection. But now is the time to try fresh and young fast bowlers like Sadaf Hussain and Mohd.Talha. These bowlers should not be delayed. And please for God's sake everybody forget Sami, Sohail Tanvir, Gul , W.Riaz if you want Pak to move forward. Remember those days when Pak fast bowlers used to terrorise the World batsmen.?

@ - Sports4Youth…<>…Bro m totally agree with ur views…I know yaar KAMRAN made blunders specially on AUS tour & WORLD CUP 2011…in his absence PAK provide many opportunities to others keepers such as ADNAN,SARFARAZ,ZULQARNAIN,SALMAN etc but all r weak behind the stumps & zero in batting…I don't know his intention in AUS tour & in world cup too,bro m not a supporter of KAMRAN but his batting is desperately needed in PAK lower order…I think PAK long tail is the main reason for his defeat in recent series against ENGLAND coz PAK keeper don't know how to bat…that's why KAMRAN is a best option for PAK…KAMRAN is one of the best performer in recent BPL with his batting as well as keeping too…In the same time KAMRAN need to improve more as a keeper with the help of academy keeper coach RASHID LATIF & fielding coach FOUNTAIN…past is past forget that & look for future…r u satisfy with my views or not…??? BRO I hope u will...!!!

  • dmqi on March 4, 2012, 20:20 GMT

pcb and selectors have failed to build a good team by trying few new players over the last year, bench players were not given chance. If you have followed current odi triangular in australia, you can see where the present pak team stands. I think pak will do poorly against India and SL in the asia cup as they do not have good batsman and wicket taking bowlers against the Indian and SL batsmen. If that happens, Misbah's captaincy will come to new challenge but truly speaking Pakistani team do not have a player to lead except Younus Khan, who is a test player mostly.

  • on March 4, 2012, 19:55 GMT

YES!!! Where is Abdul Razzak?? The best of 'em all!!!!

  • KashifMuneer on March 4, 2012, 19:27 GMT

Sami has been given more chances than anyone else in Pakistan cricket. He performs well at domestic level but is NOT a world-class bowler. I used to like Abdul Razzaq a lot but he got picked for England ODI and T20 series but said that he had a shoulder injury and ruled himself out. Immediately afterwards he went to BPL and was boeling as fast as he could while Pakistan were playing against England. So bye bye Razzaq, Pakistan doesn't need you if you prefer to earn money in BPL instead of wearing the Pakistan jersey with pride. Very honest team selection. Good luck to the team. I always thought it was unfair to drop Sarfraz in the first place. I am sure Sarfraz will avail this opportunity and seal his spot in the team I/A.

  • on March 4, 2012, 19:11 GMT

I think that Shoaiib Malik was included in the team due to political pressure from the minister of his home town. he is not i n form and looks to me gone of his real touch due to age. The team selection seems to be best under the circumstance. There could have been one or two players who might have been selected but its always like that due to the selectors and the captains choices which may differ than ours. Best of luck to the Pakistan team considering the opposition in the shape of India and Sri lanka who will be back from a strenuous and vigorous tour of Australia and must have been gone through the annealing process. Both the teams would be a very tough opponents.

  • Love-Pak on March 4, 2012, 18:09 GMT

THIS IS TOTAL INJUSTICE NOT NOT INCLUDE MUHAMMAD SAMI IN THE TEAM NOW.SAMI is in his top form now, he is the fastest bowler in Pakistan at present, he has been performing excellent in last 2 to 3 years in domestic cricket, he was the leading wicket taker in the BPL. India just recalled I. Pathan, Australia recalled Ben Hellfinhas and Bret Lee, South Africa recalled A.B. Morkal, even Pakistan recalled Misbah at age 32, Toufeeq Umer was recalled after 6 years then why Sami can not be recall when he is performing so well and team needs him??? Cheema, Junaid,Sadaf Hussain, M. Khalil all are mediocre bowlers without any genuine speed. Wahab Riaz is totally out of form since spot fixing scandal.Umer Gul and Sami will make good attack, they can add M. Talha if needed. Misbah and Azhar by no means deserve to be in ODI\T20 team. AFRIDI SHOULD BE CAPTAIN OF ODI\T20 TEAM. They can groom ASAD SHAFIQ as vice captain.

  • on March 4, 2012, 17:40 GMT

Where is Abdul Razzaq ? Abdul Razzaq was told to bat at No. 8 and he hardly got a few overs in every match. So, where does the question of Abdul Razzaq non-performance arise? "How can one perform when he is batting at No. 8 and bowling just a few overs in every match?" I think this is totally unfair.......With a world class All Rounder.......

  • Love-Pak on March 4, 2012, 17:34 GMT

We welcome Iqbal Qasim as chief selector,he is an honest and fair person. Thanks to Allah that biased and narrow mind Mr. Ilyas is gone.I think probably new selection committee did not have enough time to look into more details,70 % of team selection looks okay but there are few mistakes made too. Biggest mistake is that MUHAMMAD SAMI was not selected. This is unbelievable. Sami has been performing very well in domestic cricket since last 2 to years and he was the leading wicket taking bowler in recent BPL tournament.Nasir J inclusion is good on basis of his good performance in BPL but then why same criteria don't apply for SAMI?He is the fastest bowler of Pakistan at present and he is in top form NOW, why he was not given another chance? Players like Misbah was recalled at age 32, last years Toufeeq Umer was recalled after 6 years,Imran Farhat and Malik been given so many chances and recalls so why not SAMI. At present beside Umer Gul there is no good fast bowler in the team.

  • on March 4, 2012, 17:25 GMT

A wicketkeeper is the focal point of a fielding side. He not only needs to be agile and have a safe pair of hands but also needs to understand exactly how the game is moving along and provide motivation to the bowlers and fielders. Misbah was clearly upset with Adnan Akmal on a few occasions, not so much on his mistakes, but on what he was saying, and on his lack of understanding about what was happening; for eg. should Misbah use his LBW review or not, etc. Another key aspect obviously is batting. We know Sarfaraz is one of the most, if not the most, talented wicketkeeper in Pakistan. The question is whether he will be able to fill the other needed roles. Good luck Sarfaraz.

It wll be a black day in Pak cricekt if Kamran is selected again. It will also be a proof that talent is ignored and inefficiency is rewarded in Pak. Even if you want to select him as a batsman please do not even think about give the keeping gloves to Kamran coz if you do that you will surely loose all the matches.

  • neeraj150 on March 4, 2012, 15:41 GMT

if u r looking for past performances and experience then the best looking squad would have been:1)butt2)hafeez3)younis4)misbah5)u.akmal6)k.akmal7)s.malik8)afridi9) razzak10)ajmal11)rehman12)asif13)amir14)gul15)rana naved

No one is dead or retired from cricket so dont blame the selectors for not picking a strong squad, with whatever they have they have picked the best team possible.

Y blame selectors if malik,k.akmal, razzak, naved is out of form and no longer the same player they used to be and butt, amir and asif suspended.

The fact of the matter is azhar ali,y.khan,a.shafiq,misbah and u.akmal are the best available batsman in form and its purely coincidental that 4 of these are better test players than one day players so pakistan should stick to them unless they are out of form.

anyway the playing 11 matters more than the squad ,so my 11 will be: hafeez, azhar, shafiq, younis, misbah, akmal, afridi, gul, rehman, ajmal, riaz.

  • Malti65 on March 4, 2012, 14:51 GMT

Qasim said that " "We have selected the best possible squad for the Asia Cup in the shortest time available, .. . " Further Qasim went on to say that " the Asia Cup would be Sarfraz's last chance to seal his place in the Pakistan team. " .. . . .. "Otherwise, after the series, we are starting the talent hunt for an all-round wicketkeeper." ISNT THAT A CONTRADICTION. FIRST HE SAYS THAT THIS IS THE BEST. THEN HE SAYS THAT IF SARFRAZ DOES NOT PERFORM THEN HE WILL LAUNCH A TALENT HUNT !!! Well he should have done the talent hunt before sitting for selection. In any case Sarfraz has the best batting average in among wicket keepers in the first class circuit. If Qaim does not know his first class players then he has no right to be a selector. Or atleast he should consult someone who is aware about the players in the first class level. IN CRICKET, WITH THE FIRST CLASS RECORDS IN BLACK & WHITE YOU DONT NEED A TALENT HUNT !!!. JUST LOOK AT THE NUMBERS & PERFORMANCE.

New selecting committee did same mistake that old selecting committee did as selecting too many test specialist for this squad. why selectors do not understand asad shafiq, azhar ali, younis khan and mishbah ul haq are not ODI players. Most probably these four players will include in the final 11. Since India and sri lanka have good batting line-up, pakistan should expect to chase 300 runs or more, even though pakistan got good bowling line-up bcoz of good pitches in bangladesh. I do not think if these four players will bat 50 overs, pakistan could reach 300 runs as they normally getting runs below than runner a ball. From old days pakistan very famous for having very aggressive batsman like inzamam, miandad, anwer, ijaz, basit ali, zaheer abbas. Now pakistan going backwards becoz of selectors.

For more the five years he has settled in England. He has a bristish passport holder. He has a british citizenship. He does not require NOC from the PCB for playing any league club matches like IPL , BPL. He was selected in the BPL as a british player.

Yes Rameez, he constantly keeps drumming about the talent of U.Akmal. Then you will also agree that with the ressurgent SL and India in it, it is not an easiy tournament. And yet the Honourble Chief selector Mr.Iqbal Qasim while giving the opportunity to Sarfraz blatantly tells him in the media that this is his last chance. Is that fair ? After looking at the fist class reccord of Sarfraz does it not look to you that he should be given a fair and a longer opportunity ? Adnan Akmal's record is nowhere near Sarfraz in the first class yet why to the authorites always like to be stumped by another Akmal only.

Well, the selected squad has three qualities, i.e. it is Shoaibless, Farhatless & Adnanless. Poor Umer, the selectors have robbed him of the chance to stage his famous fake-injury-get-brother drama. I feel that the selectors should have picked Ahmed Shahzad (based on BPL performance) in place of Azhar Ali who is more suited to test cricket.

Lastly, I sincerely hope and pray that Misbah takes all this criticism on him as a challenge and delivers a far better performance (both as a captain and as a batsman) than what he did in the recently concluded ODI & T20 series against England

Pakistani players did excellent in BPL, and itz in our mind to give them chance in the Aisa cup but we shdnt forget BPL was an T-20 challenge and Aisa cup is ODI. ODI challenge demands not only the hard hitter rather players like Younis / Azhar/ Asad / Misbah to say at the crease. The squad is with two gud hard hitter like AFRIDI / UMAR AKMAL where as semi hitter UMAR GUL too. I guess team selection is ballanced and it cud be one in the squad either Nasir jamsheed or Ahmad shezad, anyone will do gud for the team. Itz gud to know that pakistan is going with specialist wicketkeepr. main thing will count the plann od batting / bowling according to the Game flow, i think whitemore will be having his hands more on it than Muhsin Khan and it will be gud though. I wish and exciting contenst. PS: MISBAH SHOULD KNOW "YOU NEED EVERY RUN TO SCORE AGAISNT THESE THREE TEAMS, AND TO BE ON THE TOE DURING THE FIFTY OVERS " best of luck with gud start

It's good to see Mr. Sania Mirza (aka S Malik) and Mr. Illyas (aka I Farhat) out of the squad! They fully deserved it! Selection of Sarfraz Ahmed is also a welcome change. Per Rashid Latif, Sarfraz is the best wk of the current lot and if Latif says so, we should give it some consideration. However, the selectors should not have said that this is the last chance for Sarfraz to prove himself. Now he will be playing under undue pressure and might not be able to perform at all!

  • AnotherCricketer on March 4, 2012, 12:00 GMT

wow! PCB dropped Imran Farhat and Shoaib Malik? I still cannot believe it. It is a pity that Ahmed Shehzad is ignored AGAIN after his latest onslaught in BPL. In fact, when comparing Nasir Jamshed and Ahmed Shehzad, the later has proven his mettle in New Zealand and scored two centuries there. Not to mention the click between Hafeez and Ahmed since we witnessed good partnerships back then. Gul and Riaz will disappoint again. They are simply not match winners. No wonder Misbah has been handing over the ball to Cheema or spinners in the death overs. Then why not try out Saddaf Hussein, Mohd. Khalil and others from the domestic circuit?

  • Sports4Youth on March 4, 2012, 11:59 GMT

I think the new selection committee should be given some time :P although the team selection isnt good but we cant either expect to win by making too many and too big changes. Young players should have been tested in other series like against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe etc. Asia cup is a big tournament and we cant experiment too much. Most of our players have been playing together for sometime and i feel team combination does matter. If Misbah brings some aggressiveness in his approach; the present team is a good talent too. And under new coach i see some changes being introduced in our strategy and approach. So .............. Yeah ! we will win inshAllah :-)

@ WAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL on (March 03 2012) :- Thanx Bro, 4 yr comments and agreeing with the point of youngsters. But please pardon me for strongly dis-agreeing with you regarding Kamran. Please recollect what Kamran did in on the Australia tour of 2010. He had the ball in his hand and refused to run-out Shane Watson. On that series he dropped more than 15 catches, mostly off Danish Kaneria. Innumerable missed stumping opportunities. Cost the series badly. Further in England Test series of 2010 - Ditto. Same in WC, NC game, dropped Ross Taylor twice in 2 balls. all sitters. Again cost the game. Then in SL game again dropped many chances and stumpings. He causes more damage wiith the gloves than the runs he scores. After the NZ game in WC, Ian Chappel rightly said, that IF Kamran's bating was better than Don Bradman still he cannot cover for the losses he causes with his keeping. His keeping demoralises the bowlers & remember Pak is a bowling team. So don't compromise on keeper.

  • Sports4Youth on March 4, 2012, 10:13 GMT

@ getsetgopk on (March 04 2012, 09:56 AM GMT) :- TOTALLY AGREED. With his stupid/ugly batting style in odi and continues failures from good positions, everyone will forget his heroics in test matches and he may be getting in the danger of being dumped in the Tests as well.

  • Sports4Youth on March 4, 2012, 10:05 GMT

Same old team, so don't expect a different result. Misbah will continue to bat selffishly. Younis will try to accelarate but will fail as usual. Then suddenly pressure on the lower order batsmen. And the the lower order batsmen will have to bear the brunt of the blame. Further, in the bowling department Gul will bowl all over the pitch and get hammered badly, all over park. It will be an utter disaster. Ajmal-Afridi-Hafeez will be less effective becuse India & SL are masters at handling spin. I DONT KNOW WHAT KIND OF MIRACLE QASIM EXPECTS FROM THIS TEAM.

  • getsetgopk on March 4, 2012, 9:56 GMT

The exclusion of Farhat and Akmal is commendable but that would hardly change anything as the strategy comes from Misbah the captain at the top and worse of all is that he can promote himself up the order as he pleases so not much hope there for Pakistan succeeding in the coming asia cup. The sooner Misbah himself realises this the better for Pakistan cricket. I have no problem with Misbah playing ODI's and even T20's but letting him continue as captain will even ruin his test career as well.

  • Malti65 on March 4, 2012, 9:56 GMT

Just like India is dragging its feet about Ishant Sharma, so is Pakistan dragging its feet regarding Umar Gul & Wahab Riaz. Also regarding Misbah we saw him play for a draw in the 3rd T20 game against England. And mind you that was a low scoring game and Misbah could not keep pace with the modest run-rate required. Ditto about Younis Khan. And as if that was not sufficient, now they also have Azhar Ali. Looks like Pakistan is trying to Draw the Asia Cup.

  • AbdullahShaikh on March 4, 2012, 9:52 GMT

To say the least this is the worst possible team that Pak could have selected, except some minor improvements of the three dropped players. But that will not be sufficient to save them from the resurgent Sri Lankans and Indians. Failures being rewarded.

  • Sports4Youth on March 4, 2012, 9:20 GMT

Dont know when the selectors will wake-up. They don't seem to realise that Test Batsmen will not deliver the goods in ODI. We have seen this with Younis Khan in the last 12 years, Younsi is one of the best in the world in Test cricket, but an avg.of 32 in ODI is horrible, his strike rate is also poor. He needs to be dumped immediately in limited overs games. All other teams are follwing this strategy and doing very well. Strauss the Eng Test captain was not included in ODI, Cook their best batsman and captain in ODI's was not considered for T20. In sharp contrast Misbah not only present in all formats but also captaining, so his place in the XI is gauranteed. NONESENSE.

  • razakbhai123 on March 4, 2012, 9:17 GMT

If pakistan is looking for WK with batting capability than why they overlook Zulkernain Hyder ! he should be forgiven for the interest of and should be consider as first choice as WK.for Misbah this should be a last chance as ODI captaincy !

  • Sports4Youth on March 4, 2012, 9:11 GMT

I agree that Malik, Farhat & Adnan never deserved to be in the limited overs format, they were all in the team for some or the other recommemdation. (Farthat - Mohd.Ilyas, Malik - Misbah). So dropping these three was hardly a decision. But the burning issue of Misbah, Younis in limited overs games was not dealt at all. And with so many slow players already there why Azhar Ali ? All these wrong selections are keeping the good one-day players out of the squad. This is a very bad squad. Also the bad performance of Umar Gul has gone completely unnoticed. And what is Wahab Riaz doing in the squad ? . Again in the bowling department is horriibly wrong. Because of the failure of Gul in the ODI and T20 games, Sadaf Hussain & Mohd.Talha should have been considered urgengly. So instead of doing his job, Qasim has un-necessarily put un-due pressure on Sarfraz by making this irresponsible and reckless statement.

  • khuram13 on March 4, 2012, 8:54 GMT

Lot of talk about the selection of team. we should be hopeful that this team do well in Asia cup. There is a tough competition there . we should pray for the team rather selectors have selected their favourite players and ignored some deserving ones.

@--- SaudAlipk------ it is right that Khalil didnt pick single wicket in warm up match but single match is not a criteria every player has a bad day. we cannot judge a player's performance from a single match. His whole last two years domestic record is proof of his ability. in domestic last two season he did much better as compare to talha and any other bowler both in pentangular cup and in Quid i azam trophy. against England our all fast bowlers didnt perform well. We won test series just on our spinners. He shouls have given a proper chance of full series as PCB is giving to chema rather he didnt do well against England.

  • KarachiKid on March 4, 2012, 8:47 GMT

@Salmat: I think you need to take a look at records, and also see the kind of damage Kamran Akmal has inflicted on Pakistan. Also Imran Nazir is not top class, see his last 15 innings for Pakistan. Nothing significant at all.

Why sarfraz ahmed? why pakistan hasn't a genuine batsman as wicket kipper... such as Dhoni, Sangakara. why kamran akmal is not selected? misbah should kick out of the squad, afridi should be captain, Nasir Jamshed is a good choice. Imran Nazir & Ahmed Shehzad should be in the squad. Folish selectors, folish Board.. pakistan cannot be able to win against sri lanka and India... :@

  • Kak-mal_Khan on March 4, 2012, 8:07 GMT

For those wanting Kamran Akmal back - pls. remember his goofy face when he fluffed so many match winning opportunities and getting out playing wreckless shot in time of need. His good innings generally were played on subcontinent wickets against substandard bowling - Umar and Adnan Akmal are the only 2 Akmal's that should be considered for selection!

  • on March 4, 2012, 7:55 GMT

  • El_Toro_Loco on March 4, 2012, 7:46 GMT

Regardless of who got picked OR dropped by the selection panel, this team can neither score or defend 250 runs in an ODI. The beginning of the end of Pakistan cricket has begun, just like the entire country. No current batsman can even score 50 runs in an ODI innings.... Sad but true.

  • smjr on March 4, 2012, 6:51 GMT

Lot of criticism has been launched against Asad, Azhar, Misbah and Younus but bottom line is that they give stability to Pak batting line up as 50 overs are quite much. You dont need to be enterprising but you need to score runs by offering wide range of shots in ODIs. Now look at Pakistani batsman tagged as enterprising such as Afdridi, Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Ahmad Shahzad, Imran Nazir, Hafeez and see how they performed at International level for the last couple of years. Please dont look at domestic ODI, T-20 or BPL. The only exception is Abdul Razzaq. We have other enterprising/entertaining players at domestic level and we can try them at international level just to see how they play.

  • smjr on March 4, 2012, 6:26 GMT

A lot of comments here are about the inclusion of Ahmad Shahzad, Imran Nazir and Kamran Akmal. I think all these players shows flashes of brilliance against weak opposition and low profile matches and tournaments with less pressure which is reminiscent of Umar Akmal. All these players have shots but they never manage their innings and play brainless shots. They have been tried number of times but they never deliver when it required. To me Azhar & Asad are the real find for future in Test and ODI. I think selectors should select Umar Amin instead of Hafeez who has declined in his batting. Younus & Misbah are still good for Test and ODI. Nobody is talking about Afridi batting in the late overs. Selectors should look at the technique and wide range of shots which the batsman offer rather looking at the batting averages at domestic level and the BPL T-20. Similarly bowlers be selected by looking at the variety they offer and less width they give especially in ODI.

  • on March 4, 2012, 5:44 GMT

  • SIREN6800 on March 4, 2012, 5:43 GMT

Its the same selection committe we had before. All they need is to bring back Intikhab Alam and it would complete the NOTARIOUS gang. JAMSHAID , SARFRAZare the same old chaps we tried in 2009 and they were dropped after failing in Australia.Qasim justified Jamshaid, s selection with his performance in domestic pentagular cricket leauge, but failed to acknowledge Imran Nazir, Kamran Akmal,s performance in BPL.Perhaps this all due to domination of nepotisim in our culture, and we are dishonest enough to ignore the merits.

I am surprised and do not know when these idiots are going to learn from their mistakes. This is the time for new blood, Misbah, Afridi, Younis are not going to last untill 2015, moreover Umar Gul and Cheema would also be too old by then.

Its good to bring a qualified coach, but we also do need to keep in consideration his recomendations, otherwise we would be just wasting money.

  • sherishahmir on March 4, 2012, 5:41 GMT

No wonder over team selection given the limitation of very limited pool of players. Players like Shoaib malik, Imran farhat, Imran Nazir, Yaseer Hameed, Kamran akmal, Faisal Iqbal should be permanently written off from Pak team and are no more able to be commented /selected,no doubt we feel sorry for Sania Mirza, the craze she having for marrying shoiab malik. Searching for keeper who can bat also smartly, why not Humanyun Farhat has considered by Mr.Qasim, apart from other ignored players like Abdul Razaq, Fawad Alam.Selection of Abdul Rahman is also senseless. Worrying moments for PCB that Pak does not have any world class batsman and allrounder in the team& whole domestic circuit, only a little hope is with Asad &Azhar Ali in future. PCB management should start immediate hunt for batsmans from the streets of Karachi,Lahore,Pindi,Multan,Faisalabad,Peshawar and rest to fill this vaccum which suffocate the Pak team performances for last couple of years.

A balanced squad...but i feel for Imran Nazir. He scored runs in BPL. He should be in the team and should open with Nasir as Hafiz is out of form. Rest is okey. Kamran Akmal is out because of his poor performance and he will be 33 in 2015 world cup. PCB is grooming Sarfaraz as he is good batsman and needs backing of selectors.

  • on March 4, 2012, 4:47 GMT

As long as Misbah is in the team, i do not think that Pakistan can consider themselves a good team. Playing with misbah is equivalent to play with 9 members in the team. When is the selection board going to recognize this?.

  • loks07 on March 4, 2012, 4:38 GMT

Al least Pakistani selectors had the guts to use word 'dropped', though I am not sure Pakistani fans are very happy with selection. Compare that to Indian selectors who insist they won't drop anybody for any disastrous performance. Indian fans watch it or leave it!

  • Sachit1979 on March 4, 2012, 4:31 GMT

No idea what fascinated Pak selectors about Hammad Azam. He is too young and really needs experience and credentials to make it into the national side. Instead they should have given respect to form of Imran Nazir in recently concluded BPL. Abdur Rehman also I think a misfit in presence of Ajmal, Afridi and Hafeez. They should have considered a genuine fast bowler in his place. Pakistan used to be known of their pace attack and now they are relying more on spinners. Change of tactics is good but not on the expense of your real strength.

Alot of ppl here have no cricket sense. Nazir and Ahmed shehzad are PURELY t20 players if anything...This is Asia cup, ODI.Team selection is fine.Although,i dont agree with Wahab Riaz's omission. He is a rythm bowler, just like Gul,he has his good and bad days. And he was making a comeback, so to base his performance on two odis is not fair. People asking for Kamran akmal must be out of their mind,OR kamran akmal himself posting here.Pakistan needs to find two good pacers, one pace all rounder(if hammad azam doesnt deliever, although he NEEDS A CHANCE to prove himself, Misbah needs to promote him up!).I have SERIOUS doubts about Sarfraz's batting but i rather have him, then akmals spilling freebies, besides two akmals in the team is too many akmals. I agree, if this fails, start looking for a specialist keeper, or better yet, the cricket academy needs to train a batsmen in the keeping role in the next 9-12 months if they dont have anyone, that spot is open to anyone willing to step up!

Ahmed Shehzad, Imran Nazir,Mohd Sami should have been in. What a waste of talent if Imran Nazir is not incorporated in Pak team, he should have been managed and guided better.Younus Khan will always diappoint in ODIs as he has done previously. Umar Akmal is highly over rated, when was the last time Hafeez and Umar Akmal have won a match against a competitive team. When the team is such a fluid state no one should have a guaranteed place in the side and team should be selected from a pool of players to see who clicks.

  • on March 3, 2012, 23:39 GMT

Firstly,I want to say that it is a balanced side for asia cup.some people r saying abt changes in team i think we should continue misbah and younus till 2012 because we have no replacement for that kind of players. If u see in 2010 PCB banned 6 senior players after austrilan tour.then we wnet to play series in england and our team sturggled in that series. As a critic i think in place of cheema mohammad sami should be in the side because he is bowling good in domestic and BPL.But i think we should continue with younus and misbah. In t20 format i think hafeez should be made as captain he has cricketing sense and can lead from front as captain.

  • ghaleecha on March 3, 2012, 22:52 GMT

Azhar Ali is the worst choice for one dayers...slowest possible player with limited shots....again repeating logical choice of millions others that Imran Nazir and Ahmad Shehzad definitely deserved a selection as they performed on the very pitches where asia cup is going to be played. But to their credit, they cleaned up crap like malik and Farhat and mixed bag of selection. If they can pick azhar mahmood, Imran Nazir and Ahmad Shehzad, this will be much more powerful team.

Im so happy that they got rid of dummy question why does everyone want that ahmaed shezad back? in the world cup he played 5 macthes and scored only 50 runs, that jerk.@Qasimali0054 Wahab riaz took 5 wickets vs India at a semi final.why drop him

  • on March 3, 2012, 20:15 GMT

Ahmed Shehzad and Imran Nazir should b included. Misbah and younis are too slow and old fashioned players.selector should include one of them.pak needs a captain like Afridy for ODI and T20.Misbah is a conventional captain.he should concentrate only in test.Chema is very ordinary.Azhar Mehmud could be included as a allrounder.he played really well in BPL T20.m shocked as nazir and shehzad r not included in the squad.

  • fata7280 on March 3, 2012, 20:02 GMT

Very disappointed selection by the Selection committee. No Ahmed Shehzad and Imran Nazir. Both are in great form right now and its really bad luck not to have them in the team. Poor selection in terms of openers.

I Wonder y Ahmed Shahzad did not consider as well :O

  • on March 3, 2012, 19:51 GMT

It look a balance team combination of young and senior players. But I think there was chance for Mohammad Sami who performed very well in the concluding BP, even he got a hat trick. His batting ability is a plus point.Poor Riaz Wahab was also in the tour of UAE against England but never given a chance, he is a good talented bowler but its services are not utilizing properly. Assad Safiuq Omar Akmal will be given how many more chance to give there performance. Its long time when these players make any century

  • on March 3, 2012, 19:50 GMT

why not included imran nasir he performance very well in BPL this is very poor selection pls give a chance for him

  • Nadeem1976 on March 3, 2012, 19:50 GMT

This is the time to make changes. Whatmore as a coach means we Wantmore from him and PCB. Learn from Ab deviliers PCB, he has changed whole SA team and giving opportunity to new players. Misbah don't deserve his place in ODI team at all. Younis is slow too, just ask them to quit. Put some young faces in team, same old players who are losing day in day out. Worthless ODI captain and worthless selection.

  • Mukhtar33 on March 3, 2012, 19:35 GMT

Firstly, I would like to remind the words of Rameez Raja straight after world cup semi final that, a senior player who couldn't maintain the scoring run rate so to acheive the target within allocated overs is simply useless and must resign from the ODI format. So basically Misbah-ul-Haq who repeated the same story during the last T20 against England in Dubai should resign from ODI and T20 formats and simply concentrate on playing just tests. he doesn't deserve to be a member for ODI and T20 format and unfortunately he is the captain. Moreover, Azhar Ali should be made as Captain for Tests, as i see him as future great test player. if he is made as captain then he will learn from senior players how to react to the test situations and he will go for long run as he is young. I think Azhar Ali should be rested for a while now for ODIs and instead Ahmed Shehzad and Imran nazir(as replacement for Misbah) should be given chance to play in team for ODI and T20 format.

  • on March 3, 2012, 19:23 GMT

Nasir J in the team of 15 and A Shehzad as reserve!! ahem! well i think it should be been the other way round, well at least they were able to put some new players in thou only in reserve. K Akmal was overlooked, well probably we need to see him keep better than score 400+ runs... ALL THE BEST TO PAKISTAN FOR THE ASIA CUP HOPE WE WIN THIS!!

  • keptalittlelow on March 3, 2012, 18:50 GMT

If Pakistan's best fast bowlers are Aizaz Cheema and Wahab Riaz then its very poor indeed. This shows they dont have new blood in the pace bowling dept to match the likes of Amir and Asif, sad.

  • KarachiKid on March 3, 2012, 18:46 GMT

Great to ssee Malik and Farhat out of the team. Keep them away forever. Next fluke players to be kicked out is Umar Akmal. Also Wahab Riaz should left out. Bring in Yasir Arafat, Tanvir Ahmad (tests), Mohammad Sami (ODI's) etc.

  • WayToGoGuys on March 3, 2012, 18:42 GMT

I fail to understand the role of PCB... If they have to go hunting for an all-round wicket keeper have they no knowledge of all the players in the circuit? Are they going to go door to door looking for the other glass sandal. Mr. Qasim has already setup these players for a failure by publicly announcing their last chance.

  • on March 3, 2012, 18:39 GMT

Awais Zia must have been tested at this level too and one thing that pakistan is lacking now the pace battery is totally down, it should be revamped with new one. For how long spinners will do the job, as the past shows pakistan is the country of pace bowling why all the load of pace is on umar gul shoulder , wahab riaz was punished by an associated team of afghanistan. this is the plight of pakistan team and we here think that with such team we can win aisa cup . No way

  • on March 3, 2012, 18:39 GMT

Good job Iqbal Qasim , best available squad in short time. Imran Nazir and Ahmed Shazad had already too many chances and Nasir Jamshed was not dropped , he was injured and replaced by Imran Farhat and never come back because of Ilyas . Sarfaraz is no1 wicket keeper batsman in domestic circle and any new fast bowler inclusion would be gamble in a big event. Sami and Rana are the past.

  • CRICALLi on March 3, 2012, 18:25 GMT

I believe that a definition for 'Insanity' is: KEEP DOING THE SAME THING OVER & OVER & EXPECT A DIFFERENT RESULT. Fielding continues to be a problem for Pakistan because it continues the same approach in trying to fix it at the top(international level). Fountain's third stint in 10 years; Clearly he had no impact on the quality of fielding beyond the players who are now retired & even then those players never reached the standard of top Teams. So what happens after he goes & players are replaced... back to the old lethargic & indisciplined fielding. This problem must be tackled at its roots - at the National Level. Changing this culture will not be easy. Board members/selectors/coaches should read - 'HIGH VELOCITY CULTURE CHANGE' and 'RAFA' by Rafael Nadal & John Carlin- current Tennis Olympic champion. Physical fitness/Agility must be part of the school's curriculum in conjunction with a 'Train the Trainer' program for Coaches at all levels to acquire Fountain's/Whatmore's Skills.

  • CRICALLi on March 3, 2012, 18:22 GMT

I am so disappointed in Pakistan. Here u have an opportunity to develop your own home grown coach who did very well despite the clear inexperience/weaknesses in the skill level of the Team. Here you have an opportunity to show the World that Pakistan has the ability to lead its people to to greatness. One can argue that his results are better than late BOB Woolmer. What most people are missing are the leadership skills Misbah/Mohsin brings to the table. They may not have the technical skill set of a Whatmore but that can be acquired. Many may not know that the World renowned &Great West Indian skipper Clive Lloyd went to school even after he won the world cup in 1975 to learn to be a better leader -skills he used to destroy Teams all over the World including Pakistan.

  • CRICALLi on March 3, 2012, 18:20 GMT

Most believe that Pak batting is relatively weak compared to the top teams; yet many expect them to beat the # 1 Team In the world all the time. Is'nt this unfair? While I would admit that both of them have room for improvement; this can only happen over time with introspection &Training. Misbah's success record is much better than any other over the last decade-check the record. Who has a better record? You cannot develop your country's cricket with pride & dignity without developing Home Grown Coaches; which cannot be done by constantly hiring foreign coaches to fix the problem at the top. Coach/Captain did not develop the greatest spin bowling attack in the world, it was cultivated at all levels of Pak cricket, but then so was poor fielding & batting. Fix your batting & fielding at the National Level first; only then you can crucify your International captain & coach for losing. Hire an International Coach as a Guide/Consultant/Trainer to Train Local Coaches at all levels.

rahat ali should have been selected i am from multan and he is the best fast bowler around ... I have seen him bowl in the nets many times as he practices in the same net as i am and man is he quick! his 1 over average was recorded as 144 kph and it really is not bad, he has taken over 100 wickets in 20 to 25 firs class matches, i would request the media to back that guy he is quicker and better then both wahab and junaid (he is also a left armer)

  • on March 3, 2012, 17:54 GMT

surprised on few players.why not selected. Ahmed Shehzad, Imran Nazir, Azhar Mehmood, Mohammad Sami, Kamran Akmal, Abdul Razzaq, Yasir Hameed, Usman Sallahuddin.

  • on March 3, 2012, 17:51 GMT

I dont understand why pak include Azhar ali, younis & misbah, sarfarz in a odi squad. All they r low strike rate batsman. These days odi score of 270+ isnt safe enough to defend. Bt if they play all of them in a match then score would b not more then 250(if hafeez, u akmal, afridi fail). Plz pak selector wake up.

  • on March 3, 2012, 17:47 GMT

Pak shud play only one real Pacer since it will be a slow and turning pitch in BD..Rehman, Afridi, Ajmal r the best three spinners in this Asia Cup..Hammad shud play too..If PAK batsmen can score big and spinners can play thier part..they can win ASIA CUP..

  • Love-Pak on March 3, 2012, 17:47 GMT

Where is the name of Muhammad Sami in this team??? He has been performing very well in domestic season through out in last 2 to 3 years, he is the highest wicket taker in BPL, he is the fastest bowler at present in Pakistan after Shoaib Akhter retirement and he is hand tail end batsman too. He should be included in OD and T20 team. If selectors have picked Nasir Jamshad and Shahzad Ahmed on their performances on domestic level and BPL then this is injustice with Sami that he was not selected as he have doing excellent on domestic level and in BPL he is the highest wicket taking bowler. Azhar Ali by no mean is ODI or T20 player with his pathetic low strike rate and flaws in his technique specially against fast bowling on or around of stump. Shahzaib Hassan should be given chance as he also has been performing well in domestic cricket and done well in BPL too. He can do well as an opener or at # 3. And this is again a big big mistake to make Misbah captain, UNBELIEVABLE !!!

  • on March 3, 2012, 17:46 GMT

The best thing about this squad? No Imran Farhat!!!

  • on March 3, 2012, 17:45 GMT

Our selectors have once again failed the nation by not considering the format oft game when picking team. Imran Nazir should have been picked. Also need an aggressive cap tail like Afridi for shorter format of game.

  • on March 3, 2012, 17:42 GMT

i am disappointed that Imran Nazir got ignored besides his good performance in BPL.. Imran Nazir should play county cricket instead since PCB have ignored him for a long time maybe that way PCB will notice him. PCB should atleast consider Imran Nazir for their T-20 side because he is one player who can do damage against the opposition.

Ahmed Shezard should be in aswell the selectors should be pickin players on merit and domestic form for me azhar ali asad shafiq aint good enough you either got it or you you aint i am sorry but these two have had alot of chances still useless.

  • on March 3, 2012, 17:18 GMT

Its great to keep misbah as a captain but some players like SARFARZ ,NASIR and one fast bowler we should try like talha R any youngster 90+ cos we really missing geniuon fast bowler and really dont understand about sarfaraz if we dont have youngster Y we dont bring Kamran he is atleast the best batsman and Imran Nazir is better then Nasir pppppppllllllllllllllzzzzzzzzzz send Afridi opener use him as a killer every one knows he dont have a batting brain then y u consider him a batsman just tell him go and hit and he can b very usefull cricketer cos he is great bowler best wishes for my lovely Pakistan

  • Sports4Youth on March 3, 2012, 17:11 GMT

PLEASE COMPARE THE FIRST CLASS STATS OF SADAF HUSSAIN with any other bowler in the Pak team. Sadaf Husain averages 18 runs per wicket. No othe bowler is even near him. After all they play the same first class competition. So why is he being kept out ?.. Something very wrong with the selection.

  • Sports4Youth on March 3, 2012, 17:08 GMT

Sarfraz Ahmed has a batting average of 43.22 in 75 first class matches, with 6 centuries including a 213*. These figures are good enought for him to be a specialist batsmen. He can be a great asset in the Test matches. But for some strange reason all sort of players like Salman & Adnan are being promoted and Sarfraz is being discouraged by playing him at no.8 in ODI matches and to discourage him further people like Qasim make such reckless statements saying LAST CHANCE.

  • Sports4Youth on March 3, 2012, 16:55 GMT

Once again Umar Gul will get hammered in the Asia Cup as he got hammered against England in the ODI's. Gautam Gambhir, Tendulkar & Virat Kohli will take him apart. Also from Sri Lanka , Dilshan, Jayawrdane, Sanga, Chanidimal will smash Gul all over the park. And Misbah will fail miserably to score the runs conceeded by U.Gul. . Pakistan will loose all the matches except Bangladesh. What remains to be seen, by what margin.

  • Sports4Youth on March 3, 2012, 16:49 GMT

Mr.Qasim, Wake-up. Sarfraz has a better batting average than some of your specialist batsmen in first class cricket. Why is he not in the Test team ? Adnan Akmal who is preferred against Sarfraz in the Tests is no-where near Sarfraz in first class matches. What makes you think Adnan will be better than Sarfraz in Test cricket ?

  • Sports4Youth on March 3, 2012, 16:45 GMT

Iqbal Qasim said that he has chosen the best team. I think it might be best according to him , but it is a pretty bad team. I expect the Pakistan team to get hammered by Sri Lanka and India. People like Y.Khan & Misbah cannot help the team in limited overs cricket. Its a bad team.

  • on March 3, 2012, 16:42 GMT

Imran nazir & Ahmed shezad should get a chance in the ODI team......they deserve it.....instead of asad shafiq and azhar ali..............and as a wicket keeping batsman Kamran akmal should be the first choice inst ead of sharfaraz .................

  • Sports4Youth on March 3, 2012, 16:42 GMT

Instead of doing their work of selecting a poistive team and Captain Iqbal Qasim and his selectors chose not to work hard with the selection job because they retained almost the same teiam except Farhat & Malik which was in any case a glaring case. But the presence of Azhar Ali, Mishab , Younis Khan & W.Riaz shows that the slectors have not done any serious work. On the other hand Players like Ahmed Shehzad, Imran Nazir, Sadaf Hussain & Mohd.Talha should have been in the team are not in the team, again showing that Iqbal Qasim is shying away from his work. The only good thing that Qasim has done is to incude Sarfraz Ahmed, but also he spoilt by making such a reckless statement. Only God knows what Qasim and the PCB is bent upon doing to Pakistan cricket.

  • Desihungama on March 3, 2012, 16:19 GMT

This is really injustice to Mohd. Sami. He's been bowling well in Bangladesh lately and is accustomed to the local conditions. His experience would have gone miles. Very short sighted vision shown by PCB. Ask what would Australia have done?

  • on March 3, 2012, 16:18 GMT

Oh yes! Now we believe this time Misbah can do it .The expectations are very high this time around. Yes we can beat Bangladesh with this team. What else were you thinking? :s

  • nlambda on March 3, 2012, 16:17 GMT

@Usman Khwaja: I doubt at this point our team (India) can beat anyone easily but hope your words come true. BTW shouldn't you be practicing to get into the Aus side or something instead of posting on cricinfo :-)

  • on March 3, 2012, 16:14 GMT

Azher ali is not good for ODIs.

  • Desihungama on March 3, 2012, 16:08 GMT

Selectors cannot make the wholesale changes and it's a never a good idea to do that anyway. You can't just throw in 4-5 fresh faces. It's counter productive to team harmony. I can understand the push behind the inclusion of Ahmad Shehzad and Imran Nazir and I am sure they will be picked in time for Twenty20 squad. This is an ODI series. But Sarfraz am not too sure if he can succeed in ODI.

  • Zahidsaltin on March 3, 2012, 16:05 GMT

    SAMI & GUL COMPARED........

SAMI 83 matches/118 wickets (per match 1,42) average 28 strike 32 economy 4,9 fastest bowler in pakistan (145-150 kph)and a much better batsman today. Now Umar Gul: 102 matches/145 wickets (per match 1,42) average 27 strik 31 economy 5,1 Speed; (136-142 kph).... THEN WHY NOT PLAY SAMI IN ODIs espcially when experts say that Sami has improved his bowling in last two seasons. BPL (though not competitive enough) tells a bit about him too

  • on March 3, 2012, 16:02 GMT

Good Selection but i believe Ahmed Shahzad should have been given a chance too. No worries a good bunch of 15 players. Only problem we will face is in our pace attack. They need to strike in the opening overs. Best of luck to Team Pakistan in Asia Cup.

Well Done PCB for sticking to the policy and kicking Shoaib Malik out of the team.

  • on March 3, 2012, 16:01 GMT

Team selection should have been more satisfactory if the selectors should have followed positive approach required for selecting a team as we see in case of Australian nd English selectors when they sack players like Ponting. Is Misbah more talented than Ponting. The selectors need to groom players like Ahmad Shezad and not make them dis-illshioned by not considering them when they their best performance. Pleeeeeeeeeeeese change your mindset.

  • Zahidsaltin on March 3, 2012, 15:55 GMT

@smjr Mohammad Sami has never been a failure in ODIs. His average, his wickets per match, his strike rate and economy are very much similer to Umar Guls. He is faster than Umar Gul and is now a better batsman than Gul. Ahmad Shehzad has scored two centuries in 18 matches where as Asad Shafiq hasn't scored even one in 28 matches. Shehzad is only 20 and was on a learning curve. He hasn't done wonders while playing those 18 matches but he has improved a lot since last he played. Umar Akmal has a much better average than any other batsman in Pakistan OD team. He is normally pushed to score fast and hit slogs which is a reason for him not scoring heavily. He should be constantly played at no.4. Asad Shafiq is a very mediocre player but has been given a uninterupted run for a very long time but he is a player who will at best give you 30s and 40s. Pakistan needs to give such a long run to Usman Sallahuddin too. He has a taste of longer innings.

i was expecting some big changes in the asia cup wanted to see some new faces but am very dissapointed. i was necessarily expecting wholesale changes but enough so i could see new talent being exposed to the highest level. Also very dissapointed not seeing ahmed shahzad and imran nazir in the squad because both of them deserved being their. And also when is the pakistan team going to realise mohammad hafeez is not a opener and should be in the middle order number 4 would be ideal i think for hafeez.

  • on March 3, 2012, 15:36 GMT

FOR ME PAKISTAN SHOULD HAVE 1) AHMED SHAHZAD 2) IMRAN NAZIR 3) YOUNIS KHAN 4) SHAHID AFRIDI (to get chance to warm up before hitting) 5) MOHD. HAFEEZ 6) KAMRAN AKMAL (wk) 7) ABDUL RAZZAK 8) AZHER MAHMOOD 9) RANA NAVEED 10) MOHD. SAMI 11) SAEED AJMAL ============= Reserves:- 12) UMAR AKMAL (as a wicket keeper) 13) Zain Abbas (who score 381 runs in Pakistan Domestic 2010-11) 14) Babar Azam (who score 321 runs in Pakistan Domestic 2010-11) 15) Mohammad Talha (who took 21 wkts in Pakistan Domestic 2010-11) 16) Uzair-ul-Haq (who took 21 wkts in Pakistan Domestic 2010-11)

here we have a good batting line till Rana naveed can bat. while in bowling we have sami, azher mahmood, rana naveed, razzak, ajmal, afridi and hafeez. AFRIDI shuold be as a captan.while top domestic players should get chance.

  • siddiqi on March 3, 2012, 15:36 GMT

Pakistan need aggressive players like Ahmad Shahzad and Kamran Akmal in ODIs and T20s. Players like Azhar Ali and Sarfraz Ahmad will never be able to win ODI and T20 matches with their slow and limited battiing abilities. Nasir J is a good selection. I really feel for Ahmad Shahzad as he is the most talented young bat but he is getting ignored for some other reasons. and No I am not just taking based on BPL. He has performed really well even in Pakistan domestic games and he has the talent to be a great opener in all 3 formats.

They should have selected a genuine pace bowler ... In recently concluded quaid-e-azam trophy there were some bowlers who should be given a run in the team ... like Anwar Ali and Ali Imran Pasha .... also there were quality batsmen also that emerged .. like Kamran Sajid and Haris Sohail ... those guys deserve chances than any other

  • riz8663 on March 3, 2012, 15:17 GMT

I read these comments and a lot of suggestions for (Imran Nazir, Shezad, Kamran Akmal...) all based on BPL. People here need to understand ASIA CUP is not T20s its ODIs, those players might have performed well in T20s you can't select them based on that. And it clearly states the reason for picking Nasir Jamshed, due to his performance domestically not BPL.

OMG!!!! I cant't understand why azhar ali is in odi squad ahead of ahmad shahzad last week these both have played list A and t-20 respectively azhar ali who is scoring runs at a strike rate of 56 and at an average of 34 in list A is in ODI squad and ahmad shahzad who played in bangladesh premere league in bangladesh where asia cup will be also played he scored 486 runs in 12 inings at an average of 48 and strike rate of above 150 is not in the squad and there is not a single chance been given to kamran akmal since last year world cup while sarfaraz has been given much chances and he has not given his best with keeping as well as with his bating. In my opinion who deserved to be in the odi team were 1-Muhammad hafeez 2-Ahmad shahzad 3-Younas khan 4-Umar akmal 5-Misbah ul haq 6-Kamran akmal 7-Shahid afridi 8-Hamad azam 9-Umar gul 10-Saeed ajmal 11-Aizaz cheema(wahab riaz)

I dont understand why so many people want imran nazir is team.He has no technique and temprament at all. He has been given enough chances but he never performed. Time to move on and give chance to younster like nasir jhamsaid, ahmed shahzad , awais zia.I prefer nasir for ODIs and ahmed Shahzad or awais zia for T20s.Also, i think that sarfraz will fail again as he cant produce good results under pressure. Also, M. khalil doesnot deserve a to be in squad. He played against England in warmup and could got a single wicket or look like taking wicket against good batting. Whereas, I prefer M. Talha who took 5 wickets against england in the warm up match. Also, i will drop umer akmal who was pathetic is last two series. Its a good team on the whole. My playing 11 would be Hafeez, Nasir, Younas, Asad, Misbah, Hammad/rehman, sarfraz , afridi, umer gul, aizaz, saeed.

  • Sports4Youth on March 3, 2012, 14:55 GMT

@ Usman Ghani on (March 03 2012, 13:23 PM GMT) :- I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU. EVEN I GET RUDE SHOCKS WHEN I SEE COMMENTS DEMANDING KAMRAN BACK. Latest comment by Salma Imran demands the return of Kamran. Sometimes i wonder if these people really have such short memories or are they friends and relatives who are quitely trying to support Kamran.

  • on March 3, 2012, 14:54 GMT

Iqbal qasim said "this is the last chance for Safraz to perform otherwise we will start looking for new wicket keeper" what kind of comment is this. putting up pressure to the kid straight away. Iqbal is never been an ideal selector. Why not to pressurize the whole team after their pathetic performance against England in one dayers. Now a days Pakistan is a better test team. I can easily predict their defeat in Asia Cup.

  • on March 3, 2012, 14:49 GMT

What a nonsense they put Nasir Jamshed in while the highest run scorer in BPL Ahmad shezad is out. Sarfarz is just a wast selection they need to give chance to adnan akmal more.

  • Qasimali0054 on March 3, 2012, 14:45 GMT

very poor selection, becuase never include imran nazir or ahmed shahzad, and selection of nasir is not fare as we are more aggresive batsman which are also in very good form as compared to nasir jamshedd .in bowling, wahab raiz is not looking 100 % fit in his last match.why we include wahab riaz?

  • WaseemHassanGul on March 3, 2012, 14:38 GMT

In my opinion team should be Openers: Hafeez, Ahmed Shahzad (Nasir is overweight & poor runner) Middle Order: Malik as 1 down (if selectors have confidence) Asad Shafique, Umer Akmal Misbah or Younis Khan (Both of them are same old fashioned slow style batsman, only one of these should be in the team. Kamran Akmal instead of Sarfraz Ahmed (because they are almost same in keeping though Kamran is little more bad in keeping than Sarfraz but far better in batting) Hammad Azam (all rounder, please dont consider Afridi as all rounder) Umer Gul, Wahab Riaz, Junaid Khan & Aizaz Cheema (Fast Bowler) Afridi, Hafeez, Saeed Ajmal, Abdur Rehman (Spinner)

  • on March 3, 2012, 14:36 GMT

ahmad shahzad and imran nazir should include in squad

  • on March 3, 2012, 14:33 GMT

Azhar Ali should not be in ODI, he should be replaced by Kamran Akmal, we need a new fast bowler coz none of Pak fast bowlers were as impressive as English fast bowlers & Pak is a country known to have class fast bolwers,

  • fazaian on March 3, 2012, 14:26 GMT

I think PCB should ban domestic cricket if PCB and our selectors do not see and consider the domestic performance. M.khalil this season top wicket taker selected for Bangladash tour but didnt give single match, after he had been droped with any single match. IN recent pentangular cup he took 21 wickets in just 4 matches helped a lot to win punjab team to win cup and this guy has not been selected. Pathetic selection i would say.

  • on March 3, 2012, 14:16 GMT

PCB for GOD sake include Imran Nazir--WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS? He is like Sehwag, even if he dont fire, opponent team always feel pressure bowling to Nazir. He has also been firing continuously recently. What a waste of such a great talent.

  • vivek1997 on March 3, 2012, 14:16 GMT

I think pakistan only will bring the best out of india . there seems to be a fire in their eyes when they play them . so please let indo-pak matches happen

  • on March 3, 2012, 14:14 GMT

Like most Cricket followers I believe Misbah is a good Cricketer and Captain for Test, with all respect for him he is not suitable for ODI's forget about T20. He is a smart person,I think he will come up with timely and appropriate decision to keep his respect from others.

  • Zahidsaltin on March 3, 2012, 14:14 GMT

MR. IQBAL QASIM, YOU HAVE BEEN A SELECTOR BEFORE. WE DO NOT DOUBT YOUR HONESTY BUT HAVE RIGHT TO QUESTION YOUR APPROACH. (1) Why no one understands that Sarfraz is a slow test batsman who needs time to build his innings. He will never succeed in ODI and will have difficulty in revolving the strike leave alone slog hits which he will be asked to do at no. 8. Sarfraz is a better test batsmen than Adnan and surely a better wicketkeeper to spin bowling. (2) Why do Asad Shafiq and Umar Akmal have their places for granted. Asad Shafiq has now played 30 ODI without scoring a century and has scored only 6 fifties. Why not give chance to other players too. Why not let Usman Salahuddin play some 10 matches too. Why not have a pool of 4 players for these two places so that a compitetion is created. We need players who average around 40 and score a century at least every 10 ODI matches. I think there are at least 5 players available who if given as many chances would have equal or better average

  • smjr on March 3, 2012, 14:12 GMT

People in Pakistan likes some dashing player such as Imran Nazir, Afridi, Shahzad and highly rated umar akmal. Although they have shown us glimpse of big shots i.e fours and sixes much to the delight of fans but we have to look at the level of bowling they faced and how many times they led or contributed in Pakistan victories. Same is true in bowling as Sami, Rana Naveed, Azhar Mehmood, Yasir Arafat all of them are medium to low level bowlers and always performed against weak oppositions. Performance in IPL or BPL T-20 stands no where and should not be basis for ODI selection. Nobody talks about fielding (running, diving, picking up the ball and throwing it back to stumps with accuracy) and catching which is the worst in the world even associate member fielding is better than Pakistan. This means we always give away some 20 to 30 runs in each ODI and this put pressure on our batsman and bowlers. To me Azhar, Asad, Hamad, Nasir and Hafeez are big hopes for future

  • Sports4Youth on March 3, 2012, 14:12 GMT

@ imranmujtaba & Arbi Hussain , Both of you gentlemen are absolutely correct, deserving players like Imran Nazir are kept out when you need openers. Also the highest run getter of the BPL (Shehzad) is kept in reserves, Because the team is populated with players like Misbah, Azhar Ali and Younis khan. And then you put too much presure on Wicket Keeper to score "quick runs" .. Shocking. Shoudn't the batsmen do their job and produce runs and Shouldn't the Keeper be merely tidy with the stumps so that the bowlers get the worth of thier hard work. But it appears that Pak selectors will always gravitate towards keepers like Kamran who do more damage to Pak with their gloves than causing damage to opprosition with bat. Basics are wrong. Because un-necessary players in the team cannot score, their is always pressure on the keeper to score, and does not matter if he drops catches and misses stumpings. ALSO WHY IS RAZZAQ NOT CONSIDERED ? HE IS AVAILABLE NOW.

  • on March 3, 2012, 14:07 GMT

nonsence Stupid committee has nglected Super star IMRAN NAZIR

  • on March 3, 2012, 14:04 GMT

Hating to see sarfaraz back... he is a useful keeper but on the other hand a more useless batsman which is highly unacceptable in nowadays cricket... Moreover for how long we will keep selecting Younis khan and Hafeez.. why not give chance to a new young man.. why not Umer Ameen..?? why not Imad Ali( u19 captain) Good to see Nasir Jamshed is back at least v don't have to tolerate Farhat big booming hips from side cameras....lolzzz also it is high time v should ask Muhammed Hafeez "" whether he is playing as a batsman or a bowler"" As a bowler he is doing fine but his batting is as poor as you like. If he is considering himself a bowler then he should only be selected as bowler i.e whenever required If he considering himself a batsman then he better start performing or leave the seat for other.

  • Sports4Youth on March 3, 2012, 14:02 GMT

@ Azam Ali on (March 03 2012, 11:23 AM GMT) :-- I totally agree with you. Actually I became a fan of Sarfraz after watching his first class record. He has the best first class record among keepers. All the other wicket keepers who have been preferred ahead of Sarfraz for the Test Matches are no where close to Sarfraz. But it appears that a concious effort is being made to Thwart his career. Maybe because he is a Karachi lad. This is bad. I did not expcect this from Qasim. I thought he would be better, but his first words are suggesting otherwise. I must say i had high regards for Qasim as a player, but his first impression as a selector is very poor. And normally the first impression is the last impression. Even if he thought that way, he should not have gone public with such a statement. instead of expecting players like Misbah etc to perform better with the bat he is putiting undue pressure on Sarfraz who's main job should be to be tidy with the keeping. Basics are being ignored.

  • smjr on March 3, 2012, 13:58 GMT

I agree with selection but the attitude toward sarfaraz the wk regarding his last chance is something not understood. Sarfaraz is the best wk batsman in the country his domestic record speaks for that, but he is not tried all that much at international level, he must be given atleast 10 to 15 ODI. In fact Umar Akmal be given a reprimand as his performance is below par. People here are demanding Kamran Akmal but if they saw ball by ball test series against England when we lost 3-0 under Inzamam captaincy and again we lost 3-1 test series to England in 2010, many could agree that it was Akmal pathetic keeping that is the main factor. As far as Imran Nazir is concerned he has not performed in domestic level. So performing in BPL against weak bowling attacks did not warrant a place in national side, same is true for Shahzad. Afridi I believe lost his touch as bowling, his batting is poor and fielding is worst. Reza hassan should be picked instead of Rehman looking for future WC.

Chairman Selection Committee , Who own performance is ,he played total 15 ODI matches ,39 runs and 12 wickets . what you can expect from him . I hope PCB will not become KCB soon .

  • ahmednaveed on March 3, 2012, 13:53 GMT

To stop baised selection and for improvement in Team selection and for better result , I would suggest PCB to hire someone from Abroad as chairman of selection committee .

  • Sports4Youth on March 3, 2012, 13:50 GMT

Uptill now it has always been some or the other Akmal who has damaged the spirits of the Pak bowlers because of their wicket keeping. Forget the Akmals and give the gloves to a non-akmal. Sarfraz has the best record in the first class, he deserves a fair opportunity and a consistent run. Look at England and South Africa, how they handle their youngsters. Hashim Amla was given such a long rope before he could establish himself as the best ODI player in the wolrd. If pak selectors would be handling Amla, they would have thrown him out after a couple of games and would say that he did not impress. Or would say that this is his last chance, the effect of such a statement is that the person dies before recieving the blow. After playing so many many at the higest level i did not expect this from Qasim.

  • on March 3, 2012, 13:49 GMT

Boo , Booo, Booooo. This is what i can say.

  • on March 3, 2012, 13:48 GMT

So Misbah will get another series to play just because he is the captain. Hats off to PCB. Iqbal Qasim's non-sense comment about the keeper clearly establishes the competence of this selection committee. It perhaps wasn't that easy to predict before but Pakistan WILL NOT make it to the finals.

  • ahmednaveed on March 3, 2012, 13:48 GMT

With this Combination , Its impossible to win the Asia Cup , No matching Winning player like Razzaq, Imran Nazir , Ahmed Shahzad has been selected . Both Jamshaid and Sarfraz are everage players and have been given a chance in the past , I dont expect an outstanding perfromance from them ,its like completing a team with Player not a match winning combination . Hoping for best but looking like impossible .

  • on March 3, 2012, 13:41 GMT

It appears the selection committee forgot to realize that there are two other teams than Bangladesh. With this team selection, Pakistan hardly stand a chance to beat Bangladesh, let alone winning Asia cup! Mindless dummies running the show of PCB that's for sure.

  • on March 3, 2012, 13:34 GMT

thank God farhat is dropped....good to see Jamshed in.....SHAHZAD nd SAMI should got a chance as they performed really well in BPL,this was very poor decesion by PCB....Misbah should not be the captain as he is too much defensive........over all it was a unfair slection...squad should have been of 16 players instead of 15

  • Rahimullah on March 3, 2012, 13:33 GMT

Pathatic selection. Shehzad and Imran Nazir deserved a chance as will as Kamran Akmal. All my interest vanished for the asia cup. Go to hell Iqbal Qasim and PCB. Go defeat ia ur distiny, waiting for u.

  • likeintcricket on March 3, 2012, 13:26 GMT

Yes, this is the last chance for these wicket keepers. There is no ADDED PRESSURE on these average keepers. Good players always delivers when under pressure. Adnan and Sarfaraz has been given so many chances in limited overs cricket that now they are a liability. In fact I am in favor of Kamran Akmal over these two for a while until they find some good one. With Sri lankans in great form and Indians are much better side on these wickets Pakistan are just under dogs.

  • sajid5577 on March 3, 2012, 13:25 GMT

i think abdurehman selection is a wrong decesion, since pakistan had already plying with the three top most spiner saeed ajmal, shahid afridi and muhammad hafeez, and instead of rehman, the allrounder sohail tanveer will be a better decesion

  • on March 3, 2012, 13:23 GMT

I am still shocked to see people supporting Kamran Akmal.............I think they have forgotten how we lost the Sydney test and how Ross taylor spanked us to all parts in WC...........As far as Ahmed Shehzad is concerned he has got serious discipline issues which needs to be addressed on emergency basis.....Surely we dont want another person like Umer Akmal in the team who although has got talent but is far non serious as far as international cricket is concerned......And last but not the least Imran Nazir is the most hyped player in pakistan after boom boom......Overall its a good team selection!!......You just cant throw players like hafeez out of the team on the basis of only one series!!

  • Mr_Mohsin on March 3, 2012, 13:15 GMT

Umer Akmal 48, Azhar Ali 37, Ahmed Shahzad 45, Nasir jamshed 43, SARFRAZ AHMED 43. this the average of some player,, Sarfraz is only better than one of batsman, selected for the team. BUT HE IS A KEEPER.

  • Farooqi669 on March 3, 2012, 13:14 GMT

We should pray for this new selection. Now we have a new coach,Dav Watmore and a new Selector. May Allah Give them a big success. Don,t bias of the new selection. This is reality that whenevera player do not play accordingly, he should be kicked out of the squad.

  • azharshah on March 3, 2012, 13:14 GMT

Nasir Jamshaid is Gud Choice ok Chairmain. but i m not happy about Captaincy why Misbah ul haq in ODI and T-20 Captain. Azhar Ali is Test Batsman what are they doing me not happy. Kindly see the runrate of indian, Aus, and SA in ODI Pakistan Needs their runrate up in ODI. at least 5 run per over.

  • on March 3, 2012, 13:09 GMT

    And where is Imran Nazir

    Never Happy with this Squad

  • on March 3, 2012, 12:59 GMT

i m also agree with arbi hussain.. nazir is a mindblowing cricketer nd he shoud be in pak cricket team

  • on March 3, 2012, 12:59 GMT

okay so i'm not happy with this, after seeing the bpl i think imran nazir deserves another go, he seems to have developed more maturity, and ahmed shezad was amazing. he seems to have a great cricketing brain. i would have ahmed and imran open the batting, hafeez should come one down as he is struggling as an opener. Two down would be umar akmal as a player of his talent deserves to come up the order. kamran akmal should be brought back, as he has imense batting talent and would get strength to the middle order, you can also play younis khan/asad shaffiq. Shahid afridi to captain the one day team and hammad azam to bat after him. the team would look something like this, imran nazir, ahmed shezad, hafeez(v.c), umar akmal, kamran akmal, younis khan, shahid afridi(c),hammad azam, saeed ajmal, wahab riaz, umar gul. also introducing anwar ali would not be such a bad idea.

  • Mr_Mohsin on March 3, 2012, 12:58 GMT

Sarfraz is a good choice, unluckily have not get consistance chances... more unlucky that he is from Karachi, otherwise he has better average in domestic cricked then some of player who are selected as batsman and who are suggested by Imran Nazir, Ahmed Shahzad, Umer Amin, please check his first class record as batsman, before challenging his selection....

  • on March 3, 2012, 12:55 GMT

I think this is good selection. But for T20 we need another opner. We should try to work on temperment of our opners and batsman like Umar Akmal,Owais Zia and Afridi.Being a cricketer I think shehzad, Nasher Jamshed and Hafiz should be the regular opners in ODI AND T20. We should get the services of Saeed Anwar and Aamir shohail to work on our opners. Give them time to correct the technique of these Players.Asad Shafique is doing fine.Umar Akmal has to learn to stay at the wicket and play as per situation of the match. We need the services of Shoaib Malik for T20 WORLD CUP.We should give him enough oppertunity in domestic cricket to come back to form.

We need the services of Pshycologist to work on their mental toughness. Special attention should be given on players selection on fielding. Our bowlers should learn to contribute in case of upper order batting collapse.

Warning to Sarfaraz is timely and I agree with selector, this is the last chance for him.

  • on March 3, 2012, 12:53 GMT

they should have picked owais zia give that guy lil confidence before t20 world cup he was the first one in the series to put finn down MISBAH please RETIREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE from limited overs cricket & PLZ PLAY HAMMAD AZAM in playing 11.

  • on March 3, 2012, 12:52 GMT

I think that they could selected another paceman in place of Junaid Khan, However, it is good to see that Imran Farhat and Shoaib Malik have been dropped finally. Sarfarz probabily deserves another chance in this squad.

  • khashar on March 3, 2012, 12:41 GMT

Afridi is senseless who ever is talking of him as captain is so pathetic...he is only energetic and gud player but surely not a gud captain...about misbah he should only play test cricket and he should realise himself that he is not doing any good to pakistan cricket by playing ODI's at age of 37...Nasir Jamshed is good choice finally he has got a chance...Ahmed Shahzad should have been included too as he has done well in BPL so he would have measured pitches and conditions well in bangladesh...pakistan badly needs a genuine fast bowler with his head on his shoulders too....Umar Gull is only T20 bowler..his eco rate is over 5 runs in ODI's and strike rate isnt that good either....and most importantly after being hit for couple of fours Gull never gets any clue where to bowl and how to bowl and seems like an ordinary club bowler...

this is ridiculuos.....this team is gona get floped again

  • arfatmirza on March 3, 2012, 12:26 GMT

Those rooting for Imran Nazir and Ahmad Shehzad must remember that Imran Nazir has been given enough opportunities to prove his worthlessness for Pakistan (M-79/Avg-24.61/SR-81.01). He has been worked out at international level simply because he is a mindless hitter. Ahmad Shehzad too, failed to grab the opportunities he was given in the past (M-19/Avg-26.50/SR-67.56), but he is talented and has enough time to prove himself and he might as well do that. But being top scorer in a BPL like tournament played on flat beds against mostly Bangladesh domestic club level bowlers should not provide a case for selection.

  • on March 3, 2012, 12:25 GMT

MISBAH is very Brilliant Captain for Pakistan.....anyway He should be captain.

  • Mr.Shani on March 3, 2012, 12:22 GMT

Mr. Chief selector u need not to give such remarks that this is the last chance for Sarfraz to seal his place in the squad. If so then it is also a last chance for u to make his selection right as a chief selector because u know very well that in ur previous stint what was the performace of the team. Whitewash in both test & odi series and lost every single match played against australia in 2009-10. So first think about yourself then speak about others.

  • on March 3, 2012, 12:19 GMT

  • JaneJosephene on March 3, 2012, 12:15 GMT

  • Zahidsaltin on March 3, 2012, 12:08 GMT

Dear IQBAL QASIM, why no one understands that SARFRAZ is a good batsman but not in ODI. He is a Misbah brand batsman who can't rotate the strike so easily and can't hit boundries. He needs to be given an extended chance in test cricket where he is allowed to build his innings. He is a much better wicketkeeper and batsman than Adnan Akmal who is so unsure while keeping to spinners. You want Sarfraz to come in to bat at no. 8 when a few overs are left and he is supposed to slog for quick runs? no way.

  • SaadS123 on March 3, 2012, 12:05 GMT

There are suggestions of Kamran, thats all well and good, but if they are looking for younger keepers that havn't already had enough chances at international level then its fine not selecting him. He will most likely thank the selectors by dropping Tendulkar on 5 in the innings he goes on to get his 100 hundred.

Side note, any suggestions for Imran Nazir, granted he preformed in T20 format, but if he blasts a fast openning start 50 odd then losses his wicket, that's still all good for a start. A start that Pakistan missed against England far too often.

  • zaheerabbas151 on March 3, 2012, 12:04 GMT

Third class Squad. No Hopes. Where is Imran Nazir, M. Sami ? Y Misbah again ? Afridi Should be Captain of ODI & T-20 Misbah Please forgive us

  • on March 3, 2012, 12:00 GMT

First of all, if you want a good batting performance by a new keeper, send him up the order. You send a new unexperienced keeper in a pressure situation where you expect him to play big shots without getting out, makes no sense to me. Secondly, that certainly was a pathetic comment; declaring openly that this is his last chance. It's nothing but added pressure. Kamran Akmal was not good with the bat, neither with the gloves. Why include him? Imran Nazir did get many chances to play international ODIs and T20s, yet it's his fault that he couldn't retain his position. His avg is not impressive, neither he is even close to being consistent. Naser Jamshed and Hammad Azam is good and deserving go. Misbah, Azhad, and Youins, all three of them in ODI squad? Just to remind the selectors that it is only a 50 overs game.

  • Shah-Ji on March 3, 2012, 11:59 GMT

Excuse me "this is a good team but not the best possible"

Qasim ,Jaffar and other selectors have expressed on different forums that "There is a very big difference of talent between Sami and the rest of the pace bowlers. Than why not the fittest and One the fastest bowler is not in the squad. Dont they read news from BPL ,or Pakistans First class tournaments ,or at least his last test in Sydney ,Where He almost won the match single handed until infamous Akmal's drops and defensive approach changed the result.

One should not forget He was dropped after Sydney burst ,when PAK was going to win in AUS after a long time.

Sarfraz selection is appreciated . He is the best keeper in country .He is the only keeper who had shown good work with Sami's thunderbolts,Kaneria"s flipper and googlies and cunning swing of Tanveer ans Sohail. Sami and Sarfraz are the reasons behind Karachi"s back to back wins in tournaments

The criteria is to perform on the big stage i.e QEA tournament. And as far as Ahmad and Nazir are concerned, they havent performed in QEA(altough im a big fan of Ahmad). I'm little disappointed with M.Sami not included in the team having performed so well and also Tanvir Ahmed who was left out without any description.Cheers!!!!

OMG..I expected selection on merit.I thought Iqbal Qasim will select team as chairman selection of Pakistan but unfortunately he acted as "Karachi wala" Why Azhar Ali, Nasir Jamshed and Sarfraz Ahmad are selected. Selection cant see Kamran Akmal's golden touch as batsman. He has made a lot of runs recently. Why Ahmad Shahzad is ignored...he is also in great form. Sarfraz Ahmad never performed as batsman in national team. And Azhar Ali is another MR.TUK TUK like Misbah in ODI / T20. Azhar is a good test player only. Shoaib Malik was only player who won 2 awards after Saeed Ajmal. He was gaining confidence now and has been dropped. We all know Shoaib is superb fielder and in ODI or T20 good fielder can save 15 to 20 runs in match. I agree there was a bad patch of Kamran Akmal..many players go through in such situation of their cricketing career. It does mean that Kamran should be discarded for ever. I dont know why Abdul Rehman is selected he made 1 run in 12 balls cost us ODI match.

  • Awais_Afzal on March 3, 2012, 11:42 GMT

So far, Mr. Ashraf seems to be doing good regarding the team and the board. And Thanks to him, we have finally seen the back of Mr Farhat. Of all that is being done to make the team better, my one question is - WHERE IS IMRAN NAZIR, AHMAD SHAHZAD AND ABDUL RAZZAK IN THE TEAM??? you have 3 outstanding players, playing for other clubs rather than representing their own country.... its like Chris Gayle and WI.

  • on March 3, 2012, 11:38 GMT

Concerns in Bowling: U. Gul Not a good new ball bowler & out of form with old ball. Cheema will not play all the matches, so we will give the new to Hafeez most of the time (to waste it). Spinners will be used to give easy single to the batsmen so they can easily achieve a good run rate without losing wickets. Due to 2 new balls being used, There will be no reverse swing therefore Mr. Gul will again disappear into the hordings. So we will always be chasing a required rate of almost 5.00-6.00 per over.

And with This batting line-up we can never chase it down........ So, a great selection for the fact that we have a defensive captain who never thinks of getting wickets at any stage of an ODI. And who thinks that if he hangs in there till the end the will be given to him as a reward for being for 30-35 overs....

  • on March 3, 2012, 11:37 GMT

This is a perfect example of a biased selection by the PCB... Imran Nazir and Ahmed Shehzad are in top notch form based on their performance in the BPL and could have been handful in Bangladesh... they should have been in the side instead of Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed... Hafeez didn't perform well with the bat in the England series, then why is he in the team and on top of that there is no need for another spin bowling all rounder when you have Afridi in the side...

  • kirkiter on March 3, 2012, 11:34 GMT

This team shows how short we are on talent at this time in the shorter format. The team, over the last couple of years, performed well when afridi, hafeez, ajmal and gul have been bowling so well. The team struggles when these bowlers are not performing at their best since we are seriously lacking in our batting. We comprehensively lost the ODIs to england since these main bowlers, except maybe ajmal, had a lackluster series. there is no fast bowler who could threaten or contain if gul is having an off day. if hafeez is not giving us good starts then the batting looks so fragile. not sure why nasir jamshed and not ahmed shahzad was selected. ahmed shahzad looks technically a better batsman than jamshed and he needs to be given consistent chances.

  • Mappi on March 3, 2012, 11:27 GMT

Mr Salman Haider they cant announce 16 players as tournment has rule & regulation for 15 players only its a balance side, Ahmed shehzad did well in BPL but how many chances he got in each innings , Jamshed is technically better then him, After terrible years behind stump Kamran akmal has no chance its better to give last chance to Sarfarz or look for an allrounder Keeper, apart from Paksitan all other top teams has a good keeper who can bat wel, frankly Keeper should bat as an opene so its leave options in the middle for extra allrounder or bowler. I am sure with arrival of Whatmore 7 Iqbal Qasim thinks will move in the right direction. Paksitan needs little tune up in all department with good bench strength.

  • on March 3, 2012, 11:26 GMT

boy this is to much somebody is against imran nazir otherwise he is to good player to be ignored ....waw you are struggling for opners and you did not select a gem of an strokeplayer shame on pakistani salectors...

  • on March 3, 2012, 11:26 GMT

I really appreciate Iqbal Qasim and others members selected the 15-man squad was the first selection by the committee headed by Iqbal Qasim, who replaced Mohammad Ilyas as chief selector. The selectors had met with merit without any pressure dropped Shoib Malik also is a very true decision because without performances player could not selected. I hope we must aspect true selections in future.

  • on March 3, 2012, 11:24 GMT

very poor selection of FAST BOWLERS ... Umer Gul, Aizaz Cheema and Wahab Riaz they all had enough of chances and do not deserve to be in the squad any more ... I pray God to get rid of Umer Gul (dont know how long do we have to tolerate him)... we have much much better and faster bowlers in Pakistan, Hammad Azam have'nt even played enough of first class cricket and been selected althought he have not shown any good performance clearly to need more experience before get selected again,

Batting: Umer Akmal may be talented but not a match single match winning performance, when needed never perform, Hafeez should have pressure of a replacement opener, so if dont perform next opener is ready next match and same for Younus Khan (sorry Younus Bhai but I think time to retire or be a match winner like you alway WERE) WE NEED MATCH WINING BATSMANS!!! Mohammad Hafeez, Younus Khan, Umer Akmal (out of form), Hammad Azam and specially Misbah-ul-Haq they all are not match winning batsmans

  • Mr.Gibbs on March 3, 2012, 11:23 GMT

What about Kamran Akman and Shehzad?? Pak 11 to me is: - Kamnran Akman - Mohammed Hafeez - Younis Khan - Misbah -Umar Akmal -Shaid Afridi - Nasser Jamshed - Umar Gul - Wahab Riaz - Rehman - Ajmal -

  • on March 3, 2012, 11:23 GMT

I am no fan of Sarfaraz but looks like selectors want him fail.

It is stupid of Qasim openly saying that it is last chance for Sarfaraz, what is he going achieve by adding pressure on him.

  • Match-winner on March 3, 2012, 11:22 GMT

We can be never happy - if they had put in Ahmad Shehzad and not Nasir Jamshed, then the comments would have been "...why Nasir was ignored, he performed so well in the domestic & recently concluded BPL..." Ahmad S is in the reserves at least, and he's more suited in the T20 for now, and with experience he will mature into a better player and i am sure he'll be part of the team - infact he should be the part of the team for T20 world cup & ODIs as well in future... So have patience guys; positives are that the management is willing to try all options, they are willing to dispose of extra baggage, and with time, everything will fall in its place. So pray for stability for our team under the current/new team management and overall PCB managemnt. Best of luck Pakistan

  • gunnerr4life on March 3, 2012, 11:20 GMT

Misbah shoould only captain the test side ! He is not fit enough to play in limited formats and Afridi is the best and only choice to be the captain for ODI's and T-20's ... Glad to see that Sarfaraz Ahmed is brought back as he is by far the best wicket keeper in Pakistan at the moment !

  • on March 3, 2012, 11:17 GMT

One of the most poor selections I have ever seen in Pakistani Cricket! Ahmed Shehzad has been performing well, should have been selected in place of Jamshed, who DID perform well, but in the end of the tournament, he was one of the worst openers. Kamran Akmal, who might have dropped the world Cup for us, BUT does deserve another chance as Sarfraz is a waste, as you can see, his recent form has been pathetic! I would've been surprised if he even was in the reserves. If you can't give Kamran a chance, you should give Adnan the gloves again, as he's the only one who can read Ajmal correctly. Imran Nazir, Mohammad Sami who had performed spectacularly in the BPL should have been selected! This is a poor selection committee, it should be removed as soon as possible.

  • Behind_the_Wicket on March 3, 2012, 11:17 GMT

Pakistan lost to many matches in chasing , the reason was slow run rate by middle order and very defensive approach especially by Younis Khan and Misbah .I am surprised they include Azhar Ali also in One day team. What you think Pakistan is going with aggressive approach ? It is as defensive as against England.Pakistan is not going to play test match.Imran Nazir and Ahmad Shahzad ,Both are really talented but not selected because of their behave? Imran Nazir is not educated but he is pure fighter,Same Ahmad Shahzad . If you see in Indain team Virat Kohli , Harbhajan and Sreesanth,South Africa Nel, Australia Symond but they all are talented and never rejected by their behave.Sami is not included that is good because he is never consistent by his line n length and I think Gul should rest now 3 wickets bowler can't damage opposition.Cheema is not impressive too ,Try to find young blood more than old horses , Right now we don't have any single fast bowler who can bowl with new ball.

  • imranmujtaba on March 3, 2012, 11:16 GMT

Why Misbah & Azhar Ali - Misbah is poor captain, which is obvious in all form of cricket... They are blocking youngster /new player to solid there is position on middle order - PLEASE PCB think about future and develop new captain otherwise Pakistan will keep struggling and only win when Match winner (Afiridi, Umar(s), Saeed or Hafeez performs .................. please give more oppurtunity to Umar, Asad and Hamad.....

  • tanweeralam on March 3, 2012, 11:16 GMT

Senseless individual this so called Iqbal Qasim.... He would be the next Ijaz Butt of Pak Cricket...

How could you say someone after selecting him that this is your last chance if you do not perform we will start talent hunt for wicket-keeper batsman.... Absolutely pathetic comment....

  • on March 3, 2012, 11:14 GMT

Very poor selection.... Kamran, Shahzad and Sami must have been there in the squad. This confirms that the new selection team is unaware that what is going on???

  • on March 3, 2012, 11:14 GMT

I think this is poor selection.Younas khan and Azhar ali are the best player of test cricket but they are not better player of ODI instead of these two there should be two better players of ODI can be selected and why always sarfraz ? u dont have a better choice other then him? i feel this is not good selection

  • Tufey_Fatos on March 3, 2012, 11:13 GMT

PCB has made joke Of Pakistan Cricket ! Same Selectors come to replace others, like they have been in vacations and then camed back !!! No any Change ! And why Again Sarfarz,We don't have any wicket keeper else then Akmal's and Sarfarz ??

  • Raoufy on March 3, 2012, 11:09 GMT

I would'nt really include Kamran. HIs politics would start again. We really need ahmad shazad as an opener patsman and we need a good allrounder keeper. Im sure we got a few good keepers in our domestic sides. good luck pakistan.. u need all the luck possible with the team that u selected. please Misbah.. dont play so defensive...

  • Ammy_rd on March 3, 2012, 11:07 GMT

I can see real merit in this team selection. Ahmed Shehzad and Sadaf Hussain are too young to be tried at International level, with 35 and 29 first class matches respectively. They are work in progress and have more to prove to be considered for selection. Wahab Riaz has a good strike rate and can be used as a genuine wicket taker. His domestic record proves his merit. It would have been better to select Bilawal Bhatti in the first 15 though as he has a better domestic record than Wahab Riaz and can bat too. Imran Nazir has an average of less than 33 at First class/List A level so he isn't worth persisting with. Rahat Ali also did well at first class level last season but has done little in the 50 over format. however, the bowling attack, particularly, seems better suited for tests than ODIs. For ODIs, M Sami was a better option. Usman Salahuddin and Fawad Alam are unlucky to miss out!

  • safeer.sehgal on March 3, 2012, 11:06 GMT

Though nasir is good opening choice but why ahmed shahzad in reserved list? Seam attack still under par, anwar ali still missing out...middle order is the area where Pak has always lacked, it still looks same shaky & unpredictable bunch in the middle...this team pak needs some extra hardwork with under pressure misbah & new coach to make some impression

  • on March 3, 2012, 11:05 GMT

Ahmed Shehzad is good talent but he needs to learn discipline and keep his head down to play long cricket for Pakistan. He was fined in BPL too. Nasir Jamshed is better choice currently because of his better temperament and also he can bat well while chasing under pressure. He scored a centrury against India while chasing in last Asia Cup.

  • Charindra on March 3, 2012, 11:04 GMT

As a Sri Lankan I'm sad to see these selections. We have always enjoyed Pakistan's successes, because of the raw talent and the excitement they bring to world cricket. But then again, this would make things easier for SL in the Asia Cup I suppose.... :)

  • Ammade on March 3, 2012, 11:04 GMT

Well ..... Ok .... but why azhar ali? You cannot play Misbah, Azhar ali and younis in the same team for an ODI. That would be an excellent line up in test but in one day it will be a disaster! Lets see how many times Pakistan reaches 250 in Asia cup!! And where are those quality fast bowlers! Aizaz, Gul, that the best Pakistan have got?!! That's a worrying sign!

  • on March 3, 2012, 11:04 GMT

some one in the comment section say, that pak wiill win asia cup,,i think it is a joke of century , this team with pathetic tuk tuk as captain stands nowhere near ind and sl , they will be deafeted hands down by ind and sl , they will be crushed by india , they should be thankful to indian selectors ,for not selecting sewag in team ,

In Pakistan Season 2010/11 most runs were made by Imran Farhat=476 runs,he got the chance and fail to prove, while Zain Abbas=381 runs ,Babar Azam=321 runs and Faisal Iqbal=321 runs are still not getting chance.why selectors are not selecting them to prove theirselfs, bowling Mohammad Talha=21 wkts, Uzair-ul-Haq=21 wkts,Saad Nasim=17 wkts and Anwar Ali=15 wkts, here not a single top bowlers of Season 2010/11 get chance to prove theirselfs, why only they stuck with some players and not giving chance to our new top players.i believe if they keep giving chances to top players of Domestic Season, soon they will get a top team inshaAllah..

  • on March 3, 2012, 10:47 GMT

I think the worst selection is that of Sarfarz Ahmaed as a wicketkeeper because he is neither a wicket keeper no batsamn and he shall be constant burden on cricket team. His selection is done prely on Karachi Mafia headed by Sraj Bukhari and is bent upon criticisng every team member who is not from Karachi.I am sure if such people are not kicked out of Board nothing good shall prevail.Whatmore will not do anything against these partia and dihonest persons.

  • on March 3, 2012, 10:43 GMT

i agree wid the dude saying Loss of Asia cup will be beneficial to get rid of Misbah........ he is not an ODI , or t20 player even not a test player as he has v pooor technique

  • on March 3, 2012, 10:38 GMT

Nasir Jamshed seems like a bright prospect, I hope Muhammad Hfeez gets his act together in this series, otherwise either he himself or Shahid Afridi should step up as a senior member and give a younger player like Hammad Azam, a chance to have a go and make his country proud. I would really like to see wahab riaz performing in this series.he has done well in the past but it is a disgrace that he is being sidelined for no apparent reason. his performance in the only game he played against england was not remarkable but why was he dropped in the previous series? why was junaid khan preferred over him? why he is not being a proper chance again? i just dont understand!!

  • on March 3, 2012, 10:37 GMT

I think it's very poor selection. Imran Nazir, Ahmad Shahzad and Kamran Akmal must be given a chance instead of Jamsheed and Sarfraz Ahmad. On what assumptions or performance Sarfraz is selected??????????

  • WickyRoy.paklover on March 3, 2012, 10:36 GMT

If poor performance z base of malik been dropped then what the hell misbah, hafeez doing there. The point z if youngstrs fail then they should not be sidelind bt if vetrans fail succesivly, they should be thrown out of team, ths z as simple as that!.Aftr all ths z not Misbah,s or hafeez's personal club team, ths z the elite team Of Pak's crict lovng nation.Even the "GULLY" crickters could have playd beter then these USELESS ,INCOMPETENT PLAYRS.Misbah have a vry rich history of cnvertng Smooth sailngs into Nail bitting defeats.THE ASIA CUP WOULD ALSO BE ADDED TO THAT GREAT "MISBAL'S HISTORY

  • on March 3, 2012, 10:35 GMT

A Big Match looser captain "Misbah" , he is specialised for making any kind of match to LOOSE (as in 1st T20 World cup final , 2011 odi orld cup semi final , ......... and recently played T20 against England) ...... he alone can make pak loose !!! No regular opener with good technique ..... neither real fast bowlers except Gul ...... just allrounders and spinners will b a hope for Win .. Lets hope that Misbah cant get success to stay on the crease and his plans to make pak loose willnt get success ;-)

  • on March 3, 2012, 10:34 GMT

I am surprised to see that Pakistan shy away from selecting talented players, who can make the team a formidable one. I would pick Shehzad, Imran Nazir as openers, then Asad , followed by Azam, Awais Zia, Umar Akmal, Misbah, Hafeez, Afridi,Gul, Ajmal. In the future, I would make Afridi or Hafeez as one day & T20 captain by dropping Misbah and bringing a paceman like Cheema or Khalil

  • 14.08.1947 on March 3, 2012, 10:30 GMT

I am a little bit disappointed about the statement:"Asia Cup would be Sarfraz's last chance to seal his place in the Pakistan team....... Otherwise, after the series, we are starting the talent hunt for an all-round wicketkeeper."....As far iam concerned the best Wicketkeeper of Pakistan was "Wasim Bari"..Did you guys know, that his avereage in Test/ODI is just under 18...But behind the stumps he was sensational.Pakistan can look in T20 Format after a talented WC who can bat also. But Safraz is excellent behind the stumps.""Catches win Matches""....And why Pakistan didnt selected a young Fast Bowler..Aizaz is 32 years old and he has unfortunalety not the talent to suprise a batsman...

  • on March 3, 2012, 10:30 GMT

I am still surprised to see MIBAH, YOUNAS, AZHAR ALI & CHEEMA in the team for Asia Cup. it seems paksitan has no planing for the world cup 2015 & T20 in Srilanka. AHMAD SHAHZAD, UMER AMIN, KAMRAN AKMAL. SADAF HUSSAIN, IMRAN NAZIR A combination of young & aggressive player who can serve pakistan cricket for the coming years are not selected again. why? how long you continue playing Misbah in one day cricket, his apporach has always been pathetic. you can clearly see the difference in approach of many teams, England didn't include Cook in T20s although he scored above then 300 runs with 2 hundreds, but he could have been easily selected in case of pakistan. second team is Australia, ponting has been dropped because he is 37 years old now & doesn't fit in 2015 planing. but eveything is different here no planing whatsoever, still Misbah tuk tuk is a captain. very poor thinking by PCB. Thanks God, Imran Farhat and shoaib malik dropped from Team at last..nasir is consistent performer in domestic in almost all format.ahmed is inconsistent and indiscipline too.that's why i think it is very decision. need one or more quick fast bowler who bowl more than 90ml.

  • Jamal9 on March 3, 2012, 10:29 GMT

It is a fair enough selection. Let's face it, there is hardly any batting talent in Pakistan. Yes, Shehzad looked good in the BPL, so did Sami, but they have all had a go for Pakistan and failed. So has Nasir Jamshed, but he gets another chance. Fair enough. Not much to choose from. Batting technique is not there, so they will eventually fail. T20 seems to have taken away these youngsters' abiility to concentrate for long periods of time which you need for ODIs and Test cricket. I would have liked to have seen Sadaf Hussain. His record in domestic cricket is phenomenal but he will get his chance eventually. Keep away from Kamran Akmal. I am not sure who he plays for..Pakistan or the King of cash.

  • on March 3, 2012, 10:28 GMT

My 11 for the first match: Hafeez, Jamshed, Azhar Ali, Umar Akmal, Misbah, Hammad Azam, Afridi, Sarfraz Ahmed, Wahab Riaz, Saeed Ajmal, Aizaz Cheema. If Umar Akmal doesn't score any runs in the Asia cup he should be dropped for the matches after.

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:53 GMT

Seriously, I don't know who is providing them with the stats.... Good to see both Shoaib Malik and Imran Farhat out of the team firstly. Secondly, I would have liked to see Ahmed Shezad and Imran Nazir to be selected because of their performances in BANGLADESH where the ASIA CUP is HAPPENING.

If the selectors wanted to bring new faces to the team then Misbah should have also been not selected as the Captain and Hafeez should have been given a chance to be groomed in the surrounding of Younus Khan, Shahid Afridi & Misbah himself.

However, I would like to see Team Pakistan do good and keep the good momentum of success on the up.

    Good Luck Pakistan Team.

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:51 GMT

M.Sami and imran nazir should be in pakistan team.

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:49 GMT

poor team selection both bowling and batting...

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:49 GMT

Hoping for the best... GO Green Go...

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:48 GMT

nasir jamsheed is not good choice ,why ahmed shezad not selected.poor selection again, why they not selected Rawalpindi rams selection team selected imran farat one drop .one selected sarfaraz one not and both player again and again flop.what is this ,

  • khuram13 on March 3, 2012, 9:46 GMT

Iqbal Qasim has mentioned the record of pentangular cup of nasir jamsheed in support of his selection. But he forgot the others players who did well in pentangulalr cup. Khalil took 21 wickets in 4 matches of pentangular cup. In the same way he was the leading wicker taker in Quid i azam trophy this year as well as last year. I think this performance is not valuable in the eye of Iqbal Qasim.

  • naeemqamar on March 3, 2012, 9:46 GMT

Why Ahmad Shahzad can't get a place in the squad. He was absolutely at the peak of his form in the BPL and still can't got further.

  • ejsiddiqui on March 3, 2012, 9:44 GMT

Misbah ul Haq is a good captain but approach is too defensive. According to him 250 is a good score, under his leadership I would be surprised if Pakistan team make a 300 score in an ODI.

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:41 GMT

I think Misbah is a gud captain.but we need new real fast bowlers. and i want to see the new face instead of old ones as the series in Bangladesh....

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:40 GMT

a good combination of senior and junior players. Hopefully they perform well in Asia Cup.

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:40 GMT

Hafeez is not Performing in Batting so if you still want to retain him play him as a all rounder in 6 or 7 no...and Azhar Ali should be Considered as Test Player. Ahmed Shehzad is in reserved player. due to his recent form he should have been selected. Why did they not announced a 16 members squad..

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:40 GMT

its a yery poor selection, kamraan akmal & ahmed shehzad should be given a chance in place of jamsheed & sarfaraaz

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:39 GMT

SAMI could have been selected in place of cheema!

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:38 GMT

why dont they keep imran nazir i mean look at his batting

  • muhammadalich on March 3, 2012, 9:38 GMT

Hmmm....Farhat & Shoaib dropped, its good but team selection is not good..Muhammad sami should be part of the team...i think Pakistan ll lose Asia Cup easily....Sri Lanka and India both teams are in full ridhem....anyway Best wishes for Pakistani u Pakistani team....

  • naeemhussain on March 3, 2012, 9:38 GMT

I do not know why Sarfraz Ahmed is picked as wicket keeper. He is not a good wicket keeper we all have seen him and he can nor bat he is included from the quota of Karachi unfortunately. Bilawal Bhatti and Sadaf Hussain should have been selected. Thank God Mohammad Sami is not selected as was reported earlier he is just like Shoaib Malik and Imran Farhat. Wicket keeper Gulraiz Sadaf and fast bowler Sadaf Hussain from Multan, Haris Sohail and Usman Salahudin deserved to be in the team.

  • khuram13 on March 3, 2012, 9:36 GMT

selectors have again selected their favourite players and ignored the merit. M. khalil has been the one of the leading wicket takers in pentangular cup. He was also the leading wicket taker in Quid e Azam trophy. He has been ignored and even he has not been included in the reserve players. Nasir jamshed has been selected for his performance in BPL. But Ahmed shahzad did mush better but has not been selected. Imran nazir did splended work in BPL but has also been ignored. Nepotism is the part of PCB . So far as this nepotism is concerned , the performance of the team would be affected and those players who have performed well in the domestic competitions they would be discouraged.

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:35 GMT

hafeez to perform better if he wants to captain pak

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:30 GMT

So again we will be heavily dependent on spinners under the same defensive captain Misbah. So we should expect even more of beating at the hands of some much better players of spin this time. I can`t understand why we can`t find good new ball bowlers to get early wickets. Why should we waste it by giving it to Hafeez.

Still best of luck to the Pakistan team. Hopefully the spinners can bowl the batsmen out without having the need of any close in fielders........

  • Muzzammil_Shahid on March 3, 2012, 9:29 GMT

    Please do something!

  • farhan_mct on March 3, 2012, 9:26 GMT

But thats really not fair imran nazir who has done such a brilliant job in BPL has not considered for selection.

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:26 GMT

to get rid of Misbah I think we need to sacrifice Asia Cup ....................... most importantly where is Abdul Razzaq

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:23 GMT

Good to see Imran Farhat being dropped. I would have liked to see Imran Nazir in the squad though in his place. I don't think its a very strong squad. Third best in the asia cup i think :) Hoping a for a good performance. Is Mohammad Yousaf retried?

  • rjmajid on March 3, 2012, 9:22 GMT

Oh Thank God for excluding Farhats and Maliks for ever from pak cricket. Still Ahmad Shahzad, Babar Azam, Haris Suhail, and Umar Amin are missing as they are the best available talent in pakistan.

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:22 GMT

Farhat & Malik dropped is a good news for the team, should have dropped Aizaz Cheema and Umar Akmal and replaced them with Sami & Ahmed Shahzad/Imran Nazir they are in a better form and more over they have played recently in BPL. when will the PCB selectors include these players in the team? and we need Afridi as the captain of the PAKISTANI team

  • Javed_Munir_Dar on March 3, 2012, 9:20 GMT

Imran Farhat exit was bound to be happened as (thankfully) there is no Mohammad Ilyas, who recently resigned as Chief Selector and the whole nation is grateful that he left the post which he never deserved

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:20 GMT

Even if we win short term we need an attacking captain to lead Pakistan and not Emperor Tuk Tuk !

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:20 GMT

  • LEOFURQAN86 on March 3, 2012, 9:19 GMT

Where is Sami man???????? i think selectors didnot see his peroformance in BPl and also didn c BPL very bad news for pak about Sami beacuse sami should be in 15 man Squad we need him and pakistan team need a pace bowler and sami is best option for pace attack.

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:18 GMT

I think PCB should'e kept Shoaib Malik in the fleet because he is an experience player. I agree with PCB decision of keeping Misbah as captain for the series.

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:17 GMT

The day pakistan get rid of Akmal brothers, will be the day of Pakistani many matches willl pakistan sacrifice to accomodate them....

where is imran nazir.thays not good. we want imran nazir back in the team

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:16 GMT

Good selection and great to hear that Misbah is retained as Captain.Keep him their till next world cup. We have to learn from other good cricket countries like Australia and England where captain is retained for years and this is why they are winning.Lo0ve Pakistan cricket. Wish you best of luck in Asia Cup.I hope we will win this time.

  • Omarrz on March 3, 2012, 9:16 GMT

where the hell is Razzaq? Pak need a fast bowling all rounder and Razzaq will be missed down the order..

  • noman_akhtar on March 3, 2012, 9:13 GMT

Thats good they drop malik, farhat and adnan akmal.. As a good selector thy includ nasir and sarfraz they must include a pace bowler.

  • LEOFURQAN86 on March 3, 2012, 9:13 GMT

Where is Mohammad Sami??????? and why did not pick him in the 15 man squad???? very bad news for all pak beacuse Pakistan Team need Sami and he is in form pace bowler and very usefull in bangladesh pitches i think Selectors didn saw BPL and his performance pls we need a pace bowler and he is perfect for this position. major mistake

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:13 GMT

Imran Nazir Should be instead of Sarfraz.

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:12 GMT

poor selection!!!!!!only three fast bowlers????and no one out of them is in form.M.Sami should be there and in reserves, who are rahat ali and billawal bhatti???? never seen them nor been highlighted!!!! Cheers!!!! btw srilanka is going to win this Asia Cup for sure........

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:11 GMT

imran nazer should also b selected

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:10 GMT

We Still Support u Misbah as captain u r great player and a deserving captain.U has brought a lot of glory to the country wich MR.Bo0o0m Bo0o0om couldnt. Misbah had a bad day that day but the reception seems unjustified thraeds and txts, loss of one match by just 6 runs does not make him thrown out.But yes Misbah in T20 can still be a debate. Now just tell how many crunch matches have won single handed by Afrid and U. Akmal compared to Razzak and Misbah.... These two are most deserving. Bringing Consecutive test, ODI and T20 wins by Misbah at age of 38 is Surprsing and Admirable... Wat else do u want.... I suppose all who r criticsing are impatient and lack of cricking sense. This is perhaps side for Asia cup would be 1.Hafeez 2. N.Jamshed 3. Misbah 4. Younis Khan 5.Asad Shafiq 6.H.Azam/U.Akaml (I prefer H.Azam) 7. Sarfaraz 8.Afridi/Razzak (Unfortunately razak is not thr but i prefer Razak) 9. Gul 10.Wahab Riaz 11.Ajmal

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:10 GMT

i would have liked to c c imran nazir in the team along with ahmed shahzad, coz both have performed well on the same soil where they will play asia cup ... anyhow go pakistan go we want this asia cup desperately

  • oskhanz on March 3, 2012, 9:09 GMT

It could have been better to have Shahid Afridi as One day and T20 captain and Misbah to play in test matches. Imran Nazir could have been given a chance, considering his performance in current BPL.

  • Sports4Youth on March 3, 2012, 9:08 GMT

I fail to understand why Wahab Riaz continues to be in the team. He is so eratic, inconsistent, expensive and unreliable. He could be easily replaced by Sadaf Hussain. who is young and can definately do better than W.Riaz.

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:08 GMT

@ Danish Tanveer.......... Misbah is the person who is needed for stabilization of the national team and cannot be removed due to just one ODI series failure. Or either you like irking captain Afridi!!!!!!

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:06 GMT

Taking Nasir is a good decision but bad for Mohd Sami he is a good cricketer by Aminullah Shinwari

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:05 GMT

    Still no Imran Nazir! :(

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:05 GMT

MISBAH , YOUNIS ,AZHAR and ASAD should also drooped from odi squad they should use young talent as much as they can so they that made a very good team for the upcomming world cup

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:04 GMT

misbah captaining the team was the best thing happened to pakistan team in the past few years...and its a pity how u people forgot all his heroics leading the team to a clean series win against srilanka and a clean sweep to the no.1 test team in the world..which is rated above pakistan winning the world yeahhh

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:03 GMT

Taking Nasir is a good decision but bad for Mohd Sami he is a good cricketer by Aminullah Shinwari

  • Sports4Youth on March 3, 2012, 9:00 GMT

i wold prefer this team 1) Hafeez 2) N.Jamshed 3) U.Akmal 4) Misbah 5) A.Shafiq 6) H.Azam 7) Afridi 8) Sarfraz (wk) 9) Ajmal 10) Gul 11) Cheema . . . . Most importantly i would like to see the batting in that order thought i am sure Misbah will make a mess of it. I am sure he will get in Yonis Khan at the expense of H.Azam. I will be gutted if Misbah brings in Azhar Ali in place of N.Jamshed or A.Shafiq. . Lets see what Misbah does this time.

  • A.Z.Abbasi on March 3, 2012, 9:00 GMT

The selections seems fine now with an honest man like Qasim in charge. Ilyas gone and so does his son-in-law Farhat, the news is good for the team. Ah! Malik has forgotten cricket. May be he should start playing tennis alongside Sania in mixed doubles :) For Sarfaraz, lets see how he performs?

    Good luck team Pakistan.

  • on March 3, 2012, 9:00 GMT

Good News is that Malik and Farhat dropped alongwith Akmal, good and commendable decions, hats off to Iqbal Qasim for picking the right team, I think Hafeez is also lost some form (i regard him as future captain), it would be better to give him some rest, cricket is a form and fitness game, I think Misbah is doing good at the moment, its nothing to do with his captaincy, he is still the best player in the team averaging very high than others, he should not be blamed if batsmen are not performing, Pakistan need to find some pace bowlers i am sure some emerging sensational talents still in the academy, though Umer gul is reliable but not consistent, it is high time for Umer Akmal to play good consistently, he is still not matured enough though he is highly regarded and ranked. i like when Kamran Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad not included in the squad they should be punished for what they did, lesson for others and for them as well...good PCB.

  • Ali-Rajpoot on March 3, 2012, 8:59 GMT

Once again very bad selection by New cheif Selector Misbah as captain Abdur Rahman as spinner Azhar Ali as middle order Muhammad Hafeez as opener becoz we have already two middle order player Misbah & Younus those having very low strike rate Hafeez has failed to proove himself as an opener Abdur Rahman is a good spinner but not Allrounder like Afridi, Hammad & Wahab Riaz.

  • Matinhashmi on March 3, 2012, 8:58 GMT

Thanks God, Imran Farhat dropped from Team, Mohammad Ilyas gone from Selection Committee. It was the height of Parchee system. If Mohammad Ilyas would not be in Selection committee, Imran Farhat could not be played in team Pakistan with his ordinary performance. All the time he and his father in law possessed the right of a young talent.

  • fazaian on March 3, 2012, 8:51 GMT

Good 2 see that farhat is out.but Ahmed shahzad should be in for nasir jamsheed.nasir jamshed should be in reserve in place of ahmed shahzad. In tha same way belawal bhatti is in reserve line up.again Muhamad khalil has been ignored.he was one of the leading wicket taker in pentangular as wel as in Quaid e Azam trophey.

  • Zoomzoom on March 3, 2012, 8:50 GMT

Chances are very slim under the captaincy of Misbah. Who knows may be Whatmore may induce some aggression in his captaincy. This should be his final chance for ODI/ T20 captaincy. Good that we finally got rid of Malik and Imran. My Line up for this series: 1). Nasir,2). M. Hafeez, 3). Asad, 4). Umar,5). Hamad, 6). Afridi, 7). Sarfraz, 8). Gul, 9). Saeed, 10). Aizaz and finally 11). Misbah

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:50 GMT

    My 1st choice Playing 11 will be: Mohd Hafeez/Asad Sahfiq/Younis Khan/Umer Akmal/Misbah ul Haq/Shahid Afridi/Sarfarz Ahmed/Hammad Azam/Umer Gul/ Saeed Ajmal and Aizaz Cheema.

Sami? His bowling average his higher than tendulkars batting average? We need Sadaf Hussain given a chance as well as Talha. Bring in new blood it is the pakistani way. For the Bangladesh series we. MUST give a young team a go and rest establish players.

Cheema Is an Ordinary Bowler. as Wahab riaz Who Does not Know where to bowl......Umer akmal should be kicked out . he never perform.. ....Good to see Nasir Jamshed is in... i think he got bigger parchi.. than ahmed shahzad

Now can anyone tell me how BANGLADESH can help PAKISTAN to bring cricket back there untill a credible improvement of security situation???

  • Sports4Youth on March 3, 2012, 8:43 GMT

Too many slow players like Misbah and Younis in the team tempts Misbah to increase batsmen by getting rid of specialist wicket keeper. Thats bad. Get in some good younsters like Ahmed Shehzad, Imran Nazir etc the team will be good. ALSO I AM SURPRISED AT NOT INCLUDING AWAIS ZIA. ESPECIALLY AFTER PLAYING SO WELL AND SENSIBLY IN THE 3RD T20.

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:42 GMT

Jamshed is a great selection, and adnan akmal making way for sarfaz is good too, Ahmed Shehzad is in the reserves he must have been awfully close to selection for the asia cup after his BPL form

Shame on selection committee for dropping Malik, see the one day record malik is on the top by avg. also check last two years domestic records. I will post my next comments after Asia cup.

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:37 GMT

Very fair selection and considering that the new cheif selector just took over yesterday its really a good effort not to do any drastic changes in team! inclusion of Nasir Jamshed is very encouraging as well as Sarfarz! we need to groom a specialist wicket keeper! Ahmed Shehzad could be picked but then the question was on expense of which player??? over all I am happy to see that Imran Farhat and Shoib Malik are out of the team now! Keeping Misbah captain is very sensible and he deserve to be Captain for me as long as he is playing international cricket but yes he must decdie about his T20 future. I think he should quite T20 its not for him, he is a super classical cricketer and all his critics should not forget that just a couple of years ago we were loosing every single match of all formats every where we play! its the patience, calmness and cricket brain of Misbah that we are seeing stability in team now!

  • chad_reid on March 3, 2012, 8:37 GMT

i don't follow Pakistan domestic cricket coz im an aussie but pak is my next fav team but this guy farhat why does he get picked all the time and than dropped and they pick him again is he that good in domestic cricket that they have to pick him again coz as far as i remember he fails alot when he plays for pak i don't understand PAK FANS PLIZ EXPLAIN

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:32 GMT

Ahmed Shahzad should also have been given a run but good squad anyways. Also Imran Nazir deserves a run in the T20 maybe

  • Ali-Rajpoot on March 3, 2012, 8:31 GMT

Once again this is a very poor selection for Asia Cup 2012, Misbah Ul Haq will be the captain, Younus is there n Azhar Ali is also part of team. So three very very low strike rate player are in the team may be they also play together in Asia Cup 2012. You can't imagine the results. The Results will be same previous series. you have also select Abdur Rahman Saeed Ajmal Shahid Afridi & Muhammad Hafeez these are Only Spinners only two are Allrounder but did not perform well as bat. I think Ahmad Shahzad could better than Azhar Ali/Abdur Rahman.

  • Sports4Youth on March 3, 2012, 8:31 GMT

I guess players like Ahmed Shehzad, Imrna Nazir etc continued to be delayed be of Misbah & younis's presence in the team. It does not leave much spave to accomodate youngsters. But the issue of Misbah's captaincy and consequently his compulsory inclusion in the team is being dragged a bit too much. Initialialy he was oppointed as a short time solution to the Afridi-Waqar stand-off. But now it is hurting the team. Because Ahmed Shehzad and Imran Farhat has shown good form and class in the BPL , they surely deserved to be included in the team. But as of now there appears to be no space to accomodate them. Maybe the space will be available once Misbah & Younis are dropped from the ODI team.

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:30 GMT

Azhar Ali should be out, Ahmed Shahzad must in, So that we get rid of playing to much defensive as we done with England.

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:29 GMT

Kamran Akmal deserves a place and is better performer than Sarfaraz...

  • Ammy_rd on March 3, 2012, 8:29 GMT

Jamshed's inclusion on the back of a succesful domestic season is good, but Usman Salahuddin, Afaq Raheem, Fawad Alam and Haris Sohail should also be tried. It is disappointing to see that Mohammad Sami, Bilawal Bhatti and Sadaf Hussain are not there in the team despite the problems with Pakistan's fast bowling resources.

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:29 GMT

ahmed shahzad better than nasir jamshed

  • WAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL on March 3, 2012, 8:28 GMT

what about SHEHZAD,SAMI & KAMRAN AKMAL...These guys r the big performer of recent BPL but unfortunetly they cant imprese the selectors once again, these guys will easily replace YOUNUS,WAHAB & SARFARAZ...I think with this selection once again PAK will definately loose ASIA CUP specially match against INDIA...half of their batting line up r slow starter & always struggle to find quick runs such as the tuk tuk king MISBAH,YOUNUS,AZHAR etc...I hope only 2 of them will play in playing coz if all 3 will play then PAK will surely score less than 240 & easily loose that match...

  • aqeelkk on March 3, 2012, 8:26 GMT

where is AHMED SHAHZAD man...!!!!! he's made highest runs in the BPL....!!!!!!

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:25 GMT

All those playin bpl should also have selected. They had a gud enough look throught to the conditions. They should have selected muhammed sami and sohail tanvir for cheema n one batsman.. Carrying only 3 bowlers may play inversely for Pakistan.

  • Noman.Baqai on March 3, 2012, 8:25 GMT

Great Team announced, i am very happy for Nasir jamshed.and Great to Hear that Misbah is still the Captain.Thos who are against Misbah ul haq Don't even know a word about cricket they just need an entertainment of 1 or 2 sixes from afridi they don't care about pak victory just like afridi.

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:24 GMT

was expecting Imran nazir's inclusion and Sami obviously! its ok that Nasir could stay for a long time than imran! it makes sense. but i must say Imran and Sami should get a chance in t-20.

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:23 GMT

I think our nation has the Memory lost problem. They have forgotten the track record of Misbah as a Captain in Test and ODI as well. It is a team game. One man cannot be the cause of loosing the whole tournament.

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:20 GMT

misbah is a good captian... in my opinion pak can produce good results in asia cup with this squad

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:20 GMT

these games against INDIA and Srilanka will be 300+ score games. is Misbah men up to it. can they chase down 300 with this batting. with azhar ali and misbah in the team. no doubt they are the best Test players in the world now. but they cant pace there innings in oneday. they always are short of the total. wether its T20 or ODIs look at misbah's record he cant chase down a total. ya he can post a total and then our bowler can we the match but chasing is not his cup of tea. in chasing u need people like Mike Hussey who are 50 on 75 80 balls but the next 50 runs come of just 25 30 balls. misbah cant do that neither can azhar. i may be wrong but if we when the toss we can win if lose we cant beat even bangladesh in chasing...

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:20 GMT

nazir, shehzad, sami should be in the team after their brilliant performance in bpl ..

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:20 GMT

Where is Ahmed Shazad ....? O poor PCB

  • rawcrickettalent on March 3, 2012, 8:19 GMT

    now dis shud be da playing 11 with this team....1.Nasir Jamshed 2.M.Hafeez 3.Misbah 4,Asad Shafiq 5.Umar Akmal 6.Hammad Azam 7.Shahid Afridi 8.Sarfaraz ahmed 9.Umar Gul 10.Saeed Ajmal 11.Wahab Riaz

  • Sports4Youth on March 3, 2012, 8:18 GMT

The part that i like the most was dropping Imran Farhat and Shoeb Mallik. In any case Misbah was accomodating S.Malik in place of the specialist wicket keeper which turned out to be a horrible idea. In their places Nasir Jamshed and Sarfraz Ahmed (specialist keeper) is great news. But the dissapointing part is the continual of Misbah, younis in the ODI team and also his continual as a captain. I think Qasim wants to make it one step at a time. Also not bring in fresh bowlers like Sadaf Hussain is dissapointing. Junaid was injured, so in his place Sadaf could be easily drafted in. Also the continuation of W.Riaz inspite of his continues poor performances is baffeling. W.Riaz is a very up-and-down bowler (unpredictable) just like Umar Gul. It does not help the team.

  • appy1111 on March 3, 2012, 8:17 GMT

Doesn't make a difference either Pak has Misbah as captain or any1 els.. They are going to lose.. India is going to win it as they are back to form.. GO INDIA

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:17 GMT

wah! azhar ali with his slow strike rate can never win games for pakistan... this whole team looks so defensive like in the odi;s against england, ahmed shehzad, imran nazir should be in the team in place of asad and azhar or even hafeez!!!

  • ijazahmad123 on March 3, 2012, 8:15 GMT

tuk tuk king misbah is still there, son no new hopes,,,,,

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:15 GMT

Zaka Ashraf why don't you understand the needs of modern day cricket people like Iqbal Qasim, Mohsin khan can't have the IQ level to select outstanding talent like AHMED SHAHZAD , KAMRAN AKMAL, IMRAN NAZIR at least for T20 format. kindly induct people like Moin Khan, BASIT ALI in selection committee becoz they know the modern day cricket requirements. last but not least please please get rid of Misbah as soon as possible to improve the quality of our cricket, it seems we have stuck in a room & have no ideas how to came out.

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:14 GMT

well i thought IMRAN NAZIR definitely shouldv been in the squad after his BPL performance, he made the team win the finals!!!! or atleast i would have kept him in reserves, ahmed shehzad should be in the team!!! Nasir Jamshed is a good pick!

  • JY09 on March 3, 2012, 8:14 GMT

Hmmm! I think sami should be included, otherwise seems Ok, but still i feel hard to beat India and srilanka with this outfit, you need to have aggressive captain , the weak link is captaincy..

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:14 GMT

I dont understand to why Ahmed Shehzad is`nt picked. He`s the highest scorer of BPL.Really selectors have ignored a great talent!

  • GreensFan on March 3, 2012, 8:14 GMT

Pakistan and Sirilanka will Play Final.

  • Behind_the_Wicket on March 3, 2012, 8:13 GMT

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:08 GMT

PAKISTAN Squad for Asia Cup 2012 :- 1. Misbah ul Haq (C) 2. Mohammad Hafeez 3. Nasir Jamshed 4. Azhar Ali 5. Asad Shafiq 6. Younis Khan 7. Shahid Afridi 8. Umar Akmal 9. Sarfraz Ahmed 10. Saeed Ajmal 11. Abdur Rehman 12. Wahab Riaz 13. Umar Gul 14. Aizaz Cheema 15. Hammad Azam

Out : Shoaib Malik, Adnan Akmal and Farhat Reserve : Ahmad Shahzad, Afaq Raheem, Bilawal Bhatti

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:07 GMT

i agree with Danish, poor selection again. how can you left out people like Ahmed Shehzad, Kamran Akmal & Imran Nazir? moreover, selection of Ahar Ali & Cheema is beyond to my imagination. teams are planing about the world cup 2015 but we still kept Misbah Tuk Tuk as one day captain, very petty indeed.

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:06 GMT

    please include sadaf hussain

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:04 GMT

Great News This is a good selection inshallah they will win

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:03 GMT

This is great, just great. Malik was in the team when he was not in form. When he regained his form in the T20s, he's dropped! Great selection. Way to go Pakistani Selectors!

  • Baber_Baloch on March 3, 2012, 8:03 GMT

its not good choice there should be must wc. kamran akmal and ahmed shahzad as openner,,,,,,but PCB is blind.Dint,t they don,t know result in BPL, also ignor Imran nazir.....i don,t know why cheema is there in squade he is zero.bring talah or riaz.

  • on March 3, 2012, 8:01 GMT

Yeah right; drop Malik as it is quite easy nowadays to drop him. Rest of batsman scored centuries and were in great form so no point dropping them including Misbah, the main culprit.

  • zahidirfan on March 3, 2012, 7:59 GMT

Imran Farhat being selected should have been news..... Not his dropping... And Shoaib Malik made sure that he gets dropped after that lousy performance despite being given a life-line by Misbah. It would have been better to get Ahmed Shahzad in the team and get Azhar Ali or Umar Akmal on the reserves. That would have sent across a big big message to all

  • on March 3, 2012, 7:55 GMT

    We want imran nazir .......

  • on March 3, 2012, 7:55 GMT

need more changes as young blood waiting for long time so that we can prepare them for w.c,

ahh Thank God.. Farhat n Malik dropped at-last... Inclusion of Jamshed and Sarfaz is good news.. I wish Muhammad Sami could also make a come back in the squad
