Bangladesh have drafted opening batsman Imrul Kayes into the squad for the Asia Cup in place of Tamim Iqbal, who has opted out due to the imminent birth of his first child. This is the only change from Bangladesh's World T20 squad that was announced earlier this month.

Imrul's last international appearance for Bangladesh came at home against Zimbabwe last month in a four-match T20I series. He scored 1 and 18 in the third and fourth matches, which Zimbabwe won to level the series 2-2. He had made his comeback to the T20I squad against Zimbabwe in November after a gap of nearly four years. He had a successful run for Comilla Victorians in the Bangladesh Premier League 2015-16, finishing as the second-highest run-getter in the tournament with 312 runs in 12 matches at a strike rate of 114.70.

The Asia Cup 2016 starts from February 19, with a qualifying round between Afghanistan, UAE, Hong Kong and Oman. The winner of the qualifying round will join the four Full Member teams in the region for the main draw which starts from February 24. Bangladesh play their first match of the tournament on February 24 against India.

Bangladesh Asia Cup squad: Mashrafe Mortaza (capt), Shakib Al Hasan, Imrul Kayes, Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, Soumya Sarkar, Sabbir Rahman, Nasir Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Al-Amin Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Arafat Sunny, Abu Hider, Nurul Hasan

I wish all the best to all the teams including the qualifier in the Asia cup! May the spirit of cricket prevail. This AC will be diffrent because now all four teams are equal in strength. Probably UAE or OMAN will qualify. Cricket fan from India.

MEMORYLOSS-RECTIFIED I don't think, you are from Sri-Lanka, most likely an Indian! SL fans are generally friendly as they enjoy the game in the right sprite. I think, fans from most countries need to grow up a little bit because at the end of the day, it's only a game

Look what MEMORY LOSS RECTIFIED your Rajitha has just been dropped from the SL squad for WT20

Md. Mithun can be given 1/2 match because he hasn't played international games recently, yet somehow he is in the WT20 squad. Some match practice won't hurt coz - as the format is ssuggesting - nobody seems to care much for Asia cup anymore.

I really don't think Tamim needs to be included in T20s for Bangladesh. After playing 44 international T20s for Bangladesh Tamim's avg. is 20 and strike rate is 107 which is very poor as a opening slot.At Least 4 players-Mitun Kayes Anamul Shamsur deserve to play T20s for Bangladesh but due to Tamim they are not getting.Hope selectors would consider this.

To everyone that are bad-mouthing tamim for this, he asked for paternity leave only for the 1st match vs india. The coach and BCB decided to give him the full leave, as he might not be match ready after the flights from malaysia. And we are not authorised to judge a player on these matters, even though i would have loved him to play asia cup given his current form. Nevertheless, lets hope BD manage it without him and best wishes to tamim for his first child.

great loss for tigers den and it is a lucky chance to prove himself as like tamim's solid partner...

@ MEMORYLOSS-RECTIFIED : Mate, at the outset, let me ask you what exactly do you get by making people laugh at you so hard? SL will beat BD in 10 overs you say? That too after the thrashings you have got left , right & center recently. To love your nation is something but i hope you realise you are at a totally different level. Be realistic, I wish your team the best and hope they turn up for the tournament.

The irony between Pakistan and SL players is that; Pakistani cricketers (Specially bowlers), sadly, who we would love to have playing for different teams in IPL are not allowed to play and SL cricketers, inspite of being available and associated with different teams dont get a chance to make it to the playing XI because they are club level. (KJP for RR, TMD for MI, AM for PWI and KS for i guess SRH)
