Asia Cup 2010 June 7, 2010

Tendulkar rested for Asia Cup, Yuvraj dropped

Cricinfo staff

The BCCI has accepted Sachin Tendulkar's request to be rested for the Asia Cup and has not included him in the squad for the tournament in Sri Lanka. Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan have been dropped, while Saurabh Tiwary, the Jharkhand batsman, has received his maiden call-up in a 15-man team that is significantly stronger than the side which failed to qualify for the tri-series final in Zimbabwe.

MS Dhoni comes back to captain a team that is bolstered by the return of Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Praveen Kumar and Ashish Nehra.

Ashok Dinda, the Bengal fast bowler, and R Ashwin, the Tamil Nadu offspinner, who were part of the Indian squad for the tri-series in Zimbabwe, have been retained.

Tiwary, 20, was one of the finds for Mumbai Indians during the IPL this year, where he struck three fifties in their run to the final. That was preceded by a successful domestic season, where, playing for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy Plate League, he scored three centuries in five games at an average of 98.83.

Yuvraj has been struggling with a wrist injury and fitness problems in the recent past. He was recently issued a show-cause notice by the BCCI for being involved in a pub brawl in St Lucia on the day India were knocked out of the World Twenty20. Yusuf hasn't been able to replicate his IPL success in international cricket. He has two half-centuries in 37 ODIs, and averaged just 10.50 in the World Twenty20.

Kris Srikkanth, the BCCI's chairman of selectors, said fielding and fitness were two important factors considered when picking the squad. "A lot of stress was given on the fitness of the players. Fitness and fielding are very important. We have gone through the record of last one year and put lot of stress on it. In recent past, we lost some matches or struggled in some matches because of poor fielding," he told reporters. "We also put stress on consistent performances. Lot of players have done consistently well and apart from the seniors, we have blooded some youngsters as well so that they know what international cricket is all about."

The BCCI, in its media release, stated that Tendulkar wanted to spend time with his children, in view of the hectic schedule ahead.

Squad: MS Dhoni (capt & wk), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Praveen Kumar, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Pragyan Ojha, Ashok Dinda, R Ashwin, Saurabh Tiwary.

dropping yuvraj is excellent decision by selectors.. also give chance for other players.. sehwag also sit out side for long time and had come back very very strongly...likewise we can expect from yuvraj if he can... but yuvi should not reuturn in team if he not find form..

Why do not play 3rd place match? If so, it would guarantee that India will play 4 matches not like in the try series in ZIM.

@Nazrul Islam This is by far the worst comment on cricinfo. I think you have not seen cricket in last decade. Sachin has scored 16000 runs and 47 hundreds in the last decade.

Sachin is out of form for a decade! No one seem to have realized it, he has blocked many talented play to come out to win matches for India. Fortunate Dhoni could come to lime light and has made history for India. Sachin had made records ,so what he is now in such a poor form as has been for the last decade, that Indian selectors are embarrassed to include him in the team. For his supporters Sachin with this form won't even get a chance in Zimbabwe team or Bangladesh team. India is now better than ever without this Iconic players like Sachin , Gavasker etc who made record for themselves while the team was beaten repetitively and got the title of grade B team.

I really agree and support dropping yuvraj from squad who is not in form at the moment. It indicates to players that no one should take his place for granted. Young talented players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma who are in good form will get a good chance to prove themselves. Yuvraj is a talented player but he needs to work on his fitness and comeback quickly. We also need some good performance from Sehwag who is coming back from injury. There are not many changes to bowling line up which is not a surprise. I dont think Dinda and Ashwin will find a place in playing 11, they are just backup. Zak and bajji should take responsibility on there shoulders. Overall its a good selection in my view. Dhoni is clever enough in using his players strengths but it all depends on the performance of bowlers. We need a strong comeback from TEAM INDIA.

Shoib Akhtar is a mediocre bowler with very good speed. Sachin only suffered against him when he was a newcomer.

Before posting these low-quality post, watch some cricket and try to understand the game.

Your comments suggest that you are 14..........maybe 16.

Please, don't let your emotion cloud your judgment.

Shoib was hit for a six by Sachin............... on the first a WORLD CUP match......... remember?

Does that suggest that Sachin is afraid of Shoib?

    Please think before you post.

hello ZeeshanAShah wait and watch who will come out from on JUN 19th. Past two years he(akthar) went out of from also didnt pick national team.are you forget past things(world cup match, etc..) I think ur Chotu sorry I mean Sachin took a good decision for taking rest in Asia Cup. Well he knows about Shoaib Akhter !! May be he is not afraid about his wicket from Shoib but I think Afraid from injury from our Fastest Bowler. He don't like to go to the hospital :P as we have seen in past shoib sent many players to hospital including ur so called Dada(Ganguly):P Indian fans Ganguly ribs are fine now?

Sachin wants to watch Pakistan Victory from his bad room , when Pakistan will kick out indian team on JUN 19, BOOM BOOM Pakistan team :PP

Sachin take more rest after Asia cup and wait when some team woud come to India and go for u 100 on dead indian wickets ur own records are more important then team of India ..Ha ha..

  • Sobnesh on June 10, 2010, 13:48 GMT

The team selection sounds good. It does serve as an wake-up call for the irresponsible seniors in the team and provides hope for hard working younger generation players. Regarding Sachin's absence, Indian team should not depend on any individual if they have hopes of winning the world cup 2011. If 10 players are fit and raring to go then it would be fine as sachin knows the game far better than anyone in this world. He is an asset and will have to be treated the same way. The team should use his knowledge about the game to best effect and not depend on him to do the deliver all the time. Good to see Dinda in the squad as he can bowl at higher 130s which can be an added variety for the ailing Indian pace attack. Ashwin and Ojha selection is also fine.

  • SambarIdli on June 10, 2010, 9:05 GMT

To all those fanatics asking to recall ROBIN UTTHAPPA

Anyways what has he done in domestic cricket to get selected in the team?

irfan Pathan is a useless slow bowler who is bowling slower than Anil Kumble. He has been given enough chances and has not lived up to the expectations.

  • ashankar on June 10, 2010, 8:17 GMT

@ad_infinitum All the points taken my dear friend. Glad to see some sensible people around. Sachin has given everything to even exhibtion matches when mattered for India (a couple of e.g.s Ind V Pak and Ind V SL) where he wont even be paid his match fee/records..this is for people who say he is after money/records. now, he wants the glory of being in a WC winning team that too at his home ground. what else a man of his caliber would want???be fair fellow Indians and envying other coutrymen.

  • ankurbohra on June 10, 2010, 5:03 GMT

@ZeeshanAShah : hahahahahahahahahaha ... you are funny ... tendulkar hiding for above mediocore (at best) bowlers that pak has to offer is the most hilarious thing i've read in a long time! nice one :) By the way, are you sure these bowlers will be playing? For all you know your board might just ban them for life. Oh wait, that wouldn't be a problem because they can lift the life ban in a couple of days time.

  • Agni.anand on June 10, 2010, 4:31 GMT

i wonder there is no back up wicket keeper ??? what if Dhoni falls ill on the eve of any important match , who will keep the wickets ? or they have asked DK to be in chennai so that they can ship him easily ?

  • on June 10, 2010, 3:44 GMT

@Crickathon: Forgive me if i'm harsh. Nevertheless, I find your comment pointless. You started with Sachin is not the one 'carrying the team in his shoulders'. But you ended up saying that India is badly in need of him. Everyone knows the value of Sachin being in the team. If not for batting, we need him in the team atleast as a mentor thanks to his vast experience and it was the one that India needed in the concluded Zimbabwe tour... @ZeeshanAShah: First of all, I'm laughing at the last line of your comment. It would've been correct if you have mentioned someone like Shane Warne, Muralitharan, Glenn McGrath. The players you mentioned don't even deserve what you said.....

@AllIndians: Finally, it's time for some serious cricket.... Let's hope for the best...

  • Ramkumar2010 on June 10, 2010, 3:00 GMT

While I clearly agree with the axing of Yuvaraj and Yusuf Pathan, what I am perplexed is the repeated omission of Irfan Pathan from its ranks. He is only one allrounder India possess as of date and instead of grooming, we are good at repeatedly ignoring him. Jadeja is only a utility player and cannot be considered as an allrounder. We will surely miss Irfan Pathan as an allrounder. Ashok Dinda must consider himself lucky to be in the team with his below par performance in Zimbabwe and instead I would have opted for a much experience in terms of Ishant Sharma. Batting looks very good and is full of youth and the fielding will really be a welcome sign for us to view, what with Raina, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma added to the fold. Overall the team looks much balanced and it is now upto the team management and the players to prove their worth. All the Best, Dhoni & Team!!

  • Ajronald on June 10, 2010, 2:58 GMT

Robin Uthappa ... a common name during all selections ... so what is wrong with him ...? I do not know? Is it cricketing skills ... he has got good cricketing skills and good temperament ... so what is preventing him from being selected to the Indian team ...

perhaps we should think of his attitude .... I had seen a few incidents in the IPL where Zaheer brawls at Robin, when he gets him out ... the same Zaheer just smiles when he gets Rohith out ... ego problem or attitude problem ...? if it an attitude problem, with whom Zaheer or Uthappa?

Dada once said, that he had seen people who had changed hair styles quiet often rather performing on the field? Again ... an attitude problem with Ganguly ...? I do not know ...

After a successful campaign on the CB series, Robin, told that he learnt that he knew how to give it back when he received (example of Matt Hayden) .. perhaps he did the same thing with his own team ... perhaps ...

  • TruSport on June 10, 2010, 1:09 GMT

Let's set somethings straight about Sachin. There are plenty of people either revering him or casting aspersions on him. Neither of you is right. He is a human being and an extremely good cricketer. He is better than most of the people out there who step out to bat but he is not invincible. His technique has a majesty but it had flaws as well. However, in recent times, he's found it easy to make runs in any circumstances and on any ground using very simple methods. That last bit alone is enough to let him take his place whenever he wants to in the Indian team. Any team in the world will still welcome him into their eleven because of the way he makes runs - even if his name was not Sachin Tendulkar. Let the man be - he still has his flaws - but he still has enough in him to warrant his seat in the Indian 11. Nuff said!

  • sabyasachi24 on June 9, 2010, 18:58 GMT

@ Nazrul Islam : do u really follow cricket, or that u were soo excited to make a post here that u just got off track and let out arbitrary comments.

  • ad_infinitum on June 9, 2010, 18:41 GMT

I consider myself lucky to have been around to watch Sachin Tendulkar play.......time has now inevitably reached the last stages of his career. He is preparing for a final assault on the world cup and is definitely going to retire (i hope only from ODIs) after world cup 2011. Nothing else (no other tournament) matters much right now. They are all preparatory tournaments for the world cup. Isnt the fact that he is at least available for selection at this age enough ? Shouldnt we consider ourselves lucky that he is still playing for India while his only contemporary (in age and ability) Lara retired a while back ? What if Sachin had retired 3 years ago ? Those very people who are questioning him right now would have been crying. Isnt it enough for you guys that he has given 20 years of his life to please you ? You want him to give more ? I think all of these people are just good for nothing guys who are never going to understand the meaning of success or achieve anything in life.

  • CrickFans007 on June 9, 2010, 17:06 GMT

@For all Indian fans ..who are angry on my comments about Sachin Non of you answered my question and everyone is repeating same thing i.e sachin 97,100 xyz ground etc. What he is doing now a days India team out in t20 lost again WI also then in tri series against srilinaka & ZIM (small team) shame Sachin did not play both tournaments. Now indian needs Sachin and he is away and wants rest Wow.. How many matches he wants to play in a year? I think Only 1 series is good for him(Like IPl bc of money) he just wants to prolong his career, Good players play when team need them. he know his current form was good in dead indian wickets and he do not want to go in dark again by Paksitan attack Shoib, Asif and Amir.

  • Crickathon on June 9, 2010, 15:30 GMT

I am sure i am going to be stoned for saying this but it needs to be said - for all the good work sachin has done all these years,he still assumes that he has to carry indian team in his shoulders while ppl who see things as they are will agree that the current odi team is capable of winning with or without sachin.Nobody is worth being put into the indispensable zone & that includes sachin as well. But sill Sachin wants to keep the 'carrying the team in his shoulders' tag afloat to gain mileage to last for another 2,3 years.A certain Brian Lara,Sachin's contemporary, never required any rest.More so if he needed rest badly, he could have opted out of ipl,.And he was not part of T20 world cup & Zim tour.I wonder what more rest he needs. Those who follow sachin past two decades know that deep inside him, there is a secret record chasing attitude and a 'i want things my way' mindset.Opting out of this is denial of national duty, which if in case of a jawan, would invite court marshalling.

  • ranand88 on June 9, 2010, 15:22 GMT

Great Team selection but should have included Robin Uthappa. he must deserve his place. Nice decision from sachin in resting himself. Ashwin should be utilised properly to prove his potential. Best wishes for the TEAM INDIA!!

  • Jitters on June 9, 2010, 14:27 GMT

Thank you Kris Srikanth for being fair in this team selection. For once I do not hear political overtones in this team. I know some people want Robin Utthapa in the tea. While I love Robin's style, his performance during the IPL has been marred with letoffs, which will not happen in International cricket. Look at each of his innings during the IPL..he just got lucky because of dropped catches. Yuvi and Yusuf are rightfully rested and maybe they can take a leaf out of the comeback kings Dada, Viru and Mohinder Amarnath. Yuvi you should focus on cricket and reduce your other assignments..after all it was cricket that brought you where you are get smart and act on it...

  • Shrikanth on June 9, 2010, 13:04 GMT

Resting Sachin or is he injured as the speculations before the selections pointed??!! What ever it may be. I go with Sachin's way. He is a matured cricketer than a lot in the world of cricket. Though your mind plays a bigger role in any field, you should listen to your body as well. If you observe he is taking steps towards enduring his carrier in test matches which is good( I love test cricket). 1 Big example for this is how he said no to T20 international. I purely belive that the IPL he has played is only to prove what he can do in that format also (for those who written him off the short format of cricket saying he is too old for that). Personally I would be dissapointed if I don't see him playing test cricket atleast for another 3 years.

  • vinaykn on June 9, 2010, 12:21 GMT

Please see the stats. Sachin is available only 60% compared to other key players who are almost 85% available. Is it not special advatange to him?If given this kind of changes,on-demand rests for family reasons etc. everybody will perform, every one can extend careers at the cost of youngsters. Very poor standard from master. India 2003-2010 210 110 87(india) India 2003-2010 128 65 54(sachin) India 2004-2010 159 87 62(dhoni,debuted after 2003) India 2003-2010 197 104 80(sehwag) India 2003-2010 198 104 81(harbhajan) India 2003-2010 177 99 69(yuvraj)

Nazrul Islam, your comments regarding tendulkar being overrated player is absolutely correct - ONLY IF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT HIS BASKETBALL CAPABILITIES. • on June 9, 2010, 7:48 GMT

Here are the changes I would have made:

Batsmen: Bring in Uthappa. Surely Tiwari deserved a place but not over Uthappa. Maybe they could have left out Ravindra for them both. Makes sense. In any case, Ravindra should be left out.

Bowlers: Irfan Pathan should be in any Indian team. If Yuvraj was kept though his bad phase, Irfan should have too. Harbhajan needs that break like Yuvraj, When was the last time we saw him bowl to his potential. Ojha should have been in here with Ashwin. Mishra just gives me a headache with his lack of energy.

  • vishi31 on June 9, 2010, 7:38 GMT

I agree with the Yusufs ommission but still irfan can find a place in 15 as he can bat accordingly far better than others and can bowl in stages in the middle of the innings not to give many runs....

  • srini1088 on June 9, 2010, 6:54 GMT

If u follow India's schedule from now its non stop cricket upto next world cup and there is nothin wrong in sachin askin for rest .....Afterall he s not 20 and he cant play each and every game....India needs him badly in 2011 worldcup...

  • splendorskies18 on June 9, 2010, 6:34 GMT

Once again BCCI have picked a player who did well in the IPL...What abt Domestic Cricket??Saurabh Tiwary had a good domestic season as well,But there are players who have done better than him and there are players who have done better than him for a few years now..Those players never get a chance..This just goes to prove that IPL performance plays a bigger role than domestic performance..Umesh Yadav got to play for India without doing much in domestic cricket and just on the basis of his IPL season.I just hope BCCI gives more importance to players who do well in first class and list A cricket...

  • on June 9, 2010, 6:24 GMT

I personally feel that this selection is good. But i wonder is Sachin really rested or just name rested instead to not picked? anyways, somethings cannot be understood by common people like me. Dropping Yuvraj for Asia cup is a good thing, atleast he can gain fitness, play domestic and get hid form back and yeah, its a challenge to Yuvraj, but i'm he'll come back in style!!!!

  • on June 9, 2010, 5:58 GMT

it's good that finally dinesh karthik is out...gosh!!! he had probably been the most featured substitute of the team. But whenever he has got a realistic chance to prove ,he has always dissapointed . He should be given a 15 year break from international cricket.Dont expect a saurav gangully like comeback from yuvi.....Dada is class apart from yuvi boy ..enjoy the real parties now...

  • on June 9, 2010, 5:20 GMT

Sachin Tendulkar Known as the God of Indian cricket has been rested !?, we saw the present captain rested for the Zim/Srilanka/India test along with peak in form opener but Tendulkar has been rested for what I wonder. Although the rest would benefit India more as this overrated player has been out of form for the last decade.

Yusuf's dropping is nice..... come on guys think of this..... Yusuf stands like a stone to short pitched deliveries even if he bats up the order his technique is worse guyzzz..... Plus Yuvi needs to remember that he fought for his place and he must fight to retain it.

Bhajji should also have been dropped. He is not effective. He did not take a single wicket in T20 games in WI. Now also he should be on the bench. Ojha/Ashwin should replace him. Why did they select Dinda? Ishant/RP/Sreesanth or youngsters like Mithun should have been included.

As for a Irfan goes, he hasn't done much since his omission to deserve a spot in the team.

I will agree with Harish Krishnamoorthy...How one can comment Sachin...Faizan-Ul-Haq-Fareedi man even ur Aktar likes players from pak likes him...he is ultimate. Coming to Yuvi...he will surely bounce's a message to the team...I would love to see allrounders like Irfan and Ashwin in the game

  • pradeeplasantha on June 8, 2010, 17:46 GMT

Does Sachin really need a rest????? so IPL gave him a hell of alot that time he was not play on behalf of country he is tired & picky.Money can buy any thing ????? .good luck!

  • S.Shyam on June 8, 2010, 17:18 GMT

Some of the comments against Srikkanth are extremely funny. Am i missing somehitng here? As far as I can see, there is only one player from TN in the squad (R. Ashwin). And you can't really question that selection since Ashwin has done pretty well the past couple of years to attract attention. What are you talking about when refering to regional bias?? Jeez!

  • cricfan_india2 on June 8, 2010, 17:18 GMT

Robin Uthappa's omission is really surprising!..... retaining jadeja is another mistake..... Dropping yuvraj must act as a wake up call for him(though i am a huge fan of him, think that he feels himself to be above the game)..... Bhajji must have also been sacked!.....yousuf pathan is very good for ranji level but not upto the mark for international competition...... no much expectations from gambhir, raina, this time and bowlers have rarely been a winning cause..... But SACHIN could have doubled india's morale in combination with sehwag and mr cool dhoni.......Though i feel he is a PATRIOT, but wonder why he prefered ipl over asian cup. Isnt 42 days of rest enough? We fans will feel agonising pain if india loses to its rivals........and can do nothing(unlike sachin) but hope our players realise it and give their best for india and its fans. and selectors must refrain from regional politics and personal grudges on some players.....

  • FabLE on June 8, 2010, 17:06 GMT

Srikanth - Regional Feeling ??? what a silly comment ... One player from Tamil Nadu/South Zone in the squad.. and that too Ashwin played really well and has earned his spot.... Good Luck India.

  • Crickathon on June 8, 2010, 17:00 GMT

For all those who voice for players who did well in ipl - success in ipl does not mean success in international level. The playfields are totally different. You have just 20 overs to last, with boundaries around 50 odd meters where even a mishit will go for a six. International cricket is not a child's play.We found this difference clearly in T20 world cup. Lets not do the same mistake of promoting ipl heroes. Let's face it- ipl is nothing but celebration of mediocrity. Success achieved in it is just pseudo-excellence.Thats y our guys could not even last 50 overs in Zimbabwe.Saurab is a good selection bcos he is not only T20 performer but has scored heavily in ranji as well.I still feel robin uthappa is an under achiever given the span of his career so far even though many ppl insist his inclusion bcos of his recent ipl success.Yuvi has clearly not been a cricketer at all past few months. Good luck to him for his just begun career outside cricket!

  • on June 8, 2010, 16:38 GMT

    Robin Utthapa's Twitter page: robbieu9

Please, check his status. His finger injury would take 10 weeks and shoulder injury would take 14 weeks to recover. Concerning Irafan, seriously. He bowls length balls at 120 k, and he's a "slogger" with low reliability/dependability. Jadeja is a spinner (yes, he did horrible in World T20, but he did pretty well in the Triseries) and they are playing in spinner friendly tracks of Sri Lanka. His batting average is close to 40, so he's the perfect player for India, at least in Asia Cup. It's a good team, with potential. Yuvi needed a much deserved message. I don't understand why prolific domestic performers like Rayudu, Badri, Dhawan, Pujara, Pandey, etc are constantly ignored. Yeah, but players with some experienced like Rohit and Kohli are good for now. Tiwary was a surprise inclusion, it would be good to see Rayudu/Pujara/Badri in team, but well, it would be nice experience for Tiwary to serve drinks and warm the star-studded bench.

  • on June 8, 2010, 16:37 GMT

@ Faizan-Ul-Haq-Fareedi I think you are right. Sachin definitely doesnt want to take any risk with Shoaib's career. So he is resting. Had he played, shoaib akhtar wud have been hit all around the park.

  • Mushyah on June 8, 2010, 16:30 GMT

All the guys in the top 6 were playing for themselves not for India. Just look at the strike rate in the first 35 or 40 overs and you can see why India lost the matches. It looks like more of a conspiracy to ensure Yousuf Pathan is under utilised and finally thrown out of the Indian team. Let us see how many times he has played in the top 4 and whenever he was given a chance to bat in the top 4, he has scored runs. In 20/20 internationals he gets to play on an average about 7 balls per innings. What do you expect him to do? Hit seven sixes. I think the selectors and team management is hell bent on destroying his confidence and not give him chances up the order to ensure that he will never perform. When Viru and Gauti were not there in this team, the least we could done is try to promote him as a pinch hitter to have him get some runs under his belt. On the whole a very poor decision to drop Yousuf. I also can't imagine how that fellow Jadeja is still in the team.

  • A.Ak on June 8, 2010, 16:11 GMT

I see many people talked about Srikanth, as his concerns are only about players from Tamil nadu. I hope all of you happy now that none of the players are not just from Tamilnadu, but from whole south India. Hope this Indian team (myl concern only as team India irespective or from south or north) will win the world cup (hoping Yuvi will get his mind right and return to team). Stop cursing the selectors and board.

  • on June 8, 2010, 15:58 GMT

when Krish Srikanth assumed the office as chief selector I think he will do the good for India, But He didn't. He always have Irfan out of his radar range, i still don't know why, so is the case for Ajith Agarkar who to likeIrfan is a more than useful cricketer. Why didn't he think about bowlers like Munaf Patel, Srisanth, Mithun and a few youngsters like thirivadi. Well there is no doubt that Yuvaraj need some rest to rethink about himself, he is simply the best thing happened in Indian cricket after Sachin. In Yousef case unless he found some method to score runes against short balls and against qick ballers his future is in dark. But Unless India found some theory in selection especially on fast ballers and keep regional thinking and politics out of the selectors India will keep losing even to Minos like Zimbabwe. Some body have to do some thing immediately

  • rairatank on June 8, 2010, 15:34 GMT

I raed almost 347 comments b4 posting mine.Very common concern about team are Uthappa,Irfan and Jadeja.I agree with all of them Uthappa should be here as a batsman and reserve keeper but guys what will happen to karthik, he won't be an automatic selection when they have to select a reserve wicket keeper so Srikanth can't select Uthappa,Ye ander ki bat hai.

Why Mithun is not selected? Mithun was sent to Zimbabwe after the one day games. He should have been allowed to play in England with team A. What happens to him now? Should he just sit at home? He should be atleast selected for SL tour.

Tiwari selected for Asia Cup(ODI) due to his IPL performance(T20)? what logic is this? then why shouldn't jadeja be dropped in ODI based on his T20 performance? and considering the absence of sachin, we seriously need Rahul Dravid in the team!Bad selection!

  • BlueNation on June 8, 2010, 14:15 GMT

We are going to miss Sachin there is no doubt about it. Sachin should be playing very few games till worldcup. We need his experience for the worldcup. I am happy to see Yuvi dropped from the team, if you look at his performace in previous games he is out of touch and not even trying to improve his game. He should be dropped from the team till he performs in domastic level. I like this team and hope they will win cup this time.

  • on June 8, 2010, 13:44 GMT

    no dinda,chawla,shreesanth anymore.irfan needs another chance as he gives the balance to this team which it dearly needs.RJ has this last chance to prove else is out 4ever.tiwary has been rushed in.instead pujara/ pandey shd hav been in.tiwary is an addition to a bunch of slambang batters that we hav. pujara/ pandey r techniclly sound nd excellent fielders as well which is req. on dambulla pitches in SL. both r gritty and perfectly suited for odi as opposed to tiwary{another slogger that chika likes to select bcoz he himself was one}

While career is getting closed because of age, Sachin trying what he dont have and which are important. Rest is part of that game only. I do not see any reason for resting. That too showing family vacation. Very poor standard. Above-the-team attitude. Asia cup important just like world cup within asia range. Also there will be interesting fight with Pakistan always. But GOD is great he will give to them what they deserved. We saw in IPL, he wanted to show in IPL that he is good captain, but in final he choked as usual. Hand also crushed while claiming false catch. India world cup win and Sachin playing both are opposite and contradictory, we can only wish for only one, both are not possible. I wish he should not be playing world cup and India win. :-)

  • gavinfrank on June 8, 2010, 12:22 GMT

its a good thing sachin is opting to rest. We need to preserve him for the w/c. Im very happy yuvi is dropped, even though im a fan.he needs to get his head out of his butt and concentrate on his game. somehow when hes on the field, he acts like he is the best thing to happen after the DON. Uthappa, well its a 50-50 decision. Its easy to say pick uthappa, but in place of whom. Even if you replace jadeja , you cant play uthappa at 7 or 8. You cant deny the fact that uthappa had his chances in the past and flopped big time. maybe he is improved now,but that doesnt mean auto selection in the team. You have other younger equally talented playas now.tiwary/rayudu/pandey/pujara/rohit/kohli need to search for playas who can perform even on quicker wickets. We know rohit and kohli can, give the others a chance as well. You cant be serious bout getting irfan in the team again. He is the most inefficient bowler going around. And what has he done to warrant a place in the side.

  • youngistaan on June 8, 2010, 12:20 GMT

  • Indian_Rules on June 8, 2010, 12:07 GMT

before thinking about dropping yuvi etc, bcci should drop that srikanth. Then next drop yuvi and jadeja both. Inclusion of tiwari is good but i doubt he will ever get a chance to be in the final 11. And even if CID, CBI or FBI jointly investigate as to why is Jadeja included , they will fail to answer the question.. Its a mystery that only a bafoon like srikanth can answer.

Really feel Selectors job is not satisfactory. Fact that omission of players like A.T. Rayudu who had an exemplary IPL season 3 & Robin Uthappa eventhough recovered from an injury is blunder by the selectors. Even a chance to Irfan Pathan would have been fairer than continuing with Jadeja who has impressed only 30%. God only should give more maturity to the selectors to do the job if India need to sustain top 3 spots.

  • Nethag on June 8, 2010, 9:01 GMT

Now this is the time to regain them as world cup is coming soon.

Will they play in 2011 World Cup. NO. Then why? "Ravinder Jadeja" is again in the Team, My dear selectors, we have lost so many matches because of this Man. Don't you see matches??

BEST of LUCK indian Spectators, However, I think Selectors dont want to show us a Good Cricket.

  • Kashi0127 on June 8, 2010, 8:56 GMT

I am an Indian following cricket since Salim Durrani, Prassanna, Venkat, Chandra, Gavaskar, Solkar days. I have not seen such pathetic administration and biased selection any time before. I wish the India Team "ALL THE WORST" in the all forthcoming matches till they decide India the Country is bigger than the Cricket Board and become unbiased in selection

  • Kashi0127 on June 8, 2010, 8:53 GMT

The only South Indian I see is Ashwin. Of late I see a pattern - even if someone is selected on the tour (Vinay Kuamr, Mithun etc.) don't give them any chance in any of the matches (like in W T20 and recent Zimbabwe matches).

  • tick on June 8, 2010, 8:53 GMT

with this squad i dont think india will be able to win asia cup and even if they are lucky enough they will not be ever ever consistent and with worldcup insight, india will not be able to win.reason for this is that in top 8 countries india has the weakest bowling attack.zaheer, nehra and praveen are medium pacers on subcontinent pitches & harbhajan is now played with ease by even australians and srilanka and pakistan will not have any problem against him.and for jadeja no comments..if ghambir, raina, dhoni, sharma score 300+ even than india will lose because of its bowling.bring sresanth, ishant back who can bowl fast and dazzle batsmen on flaccid srilankan pitches. in comparison pakistan has quite good bowling unit with asif, aamir, shoaib, razzaq and 7 ft tall irfan and than afridi and ajmal make a balanced unit complete.and with butt, kamran, umar, and the fire power of shahzaib, razzaq, afridi, farhat i think pakistan are balanced side with not much exaggeration either in batting or bowling

  • Kashi0127 on June 8, 2010, 8:50 GMT

Does INDIAN Cricket Board think Asian Cup is more important and bigger than Asian Games - why are they sending a team at all?

  • Kashi0127 on June 8, 2010, 8:44 GMT

So what are the reasons for not selecting Robin Uthappa, Abhimanya Mithun, Manish Pandey and Vinay Kumar? One that comes to my mind is they are all from Karnataka - I cannot think of any other. All the mentioned players had excellent performamnces in domestic cricket not like others who had success in staged affair called "IPL". IPL could not have been anything more than an exhibhition tournment. What is baffling is Mithun was made to travel to Zimbabwe just to carry towls and drinks. I think Karnataka players should totally refuse to play for India.

  • Mahatma_of_Great_Britain on June 8, 2010, 8:35 GMT

ROBIN UTHAPPA: For those asking about Robin Uthappa, he's had a shoulder injury and may have or already have had surgery and was asked to have 3 months complete rest, which is why he wasn't picked-up in Zimbabew tri-series and couldn't be picked-up for the coming Asia Cup.

@ZeeshanAShah If u ever understand or read this - You're an illiterate of cricket i guess. Sachin made his debut against Waqar, Wasim and Imran who are the greatest Pak have ever produced mind you when he was 16. Don forget the exhibition T20 at that time where he smashed Abdul Qadir to all parts of the ground refer to : Don forget his welcome 6 to your so called better bowler Shoaib Akthar during the 2003 WC. If u want more, his six off Andy Caddick to the midwicket. I bet no Pakistani (or any player for that matter) have bettered that shot. And per history whoever humiliates Sachin in their first encounter (warne, henry olanga, wasim, waqar, watson, brad hogg.etc..)will get it back soon. I am worried sachin is missing a chance to give it back to Mohamed Aamir:( that is my only anger on Sachin missing out this Asia Cup.

You guys are always selfish, when sachin was in bad form back in 2007 you guys wanted a YOUTH BRIGADE. You wanted Sachin to give way for youngsters. Why cant u take that as an opp now to showcase ur youngsters. Now when the YOUTH BRIGADE fails miserably u guys need THE MASTER, what the hell is this? You don have to be a Sachin fan but just think twice before reacting. he has hardly got 1.5 to 2 yrs of cricket left in him. Let him decide what is his priority. Sad to say but we Indian Fans are very selfish.

    Few answers

Utappa : injured , and even if not injured the chances of him getting selected are slim as his domestic / IPL performance weren't great.

Srikanth : True some TN players are getting national chances but do mind these players (karthik, badri, aswin, vijay) have the BEST national record in domestic cricked and all of them were great in IPL. It would be unfair if he denies them chance just to avoid these critics.

The Pathans : Irfan is having a bad run in domestic seasons, there is absolutely no chancefor him. Yousuf is a 20/20 hitman dont expect him to play ODIs.

Sreesanth : He puts india in disgrace by both poor perfonmance and on field menace, chances are slim for him to make any entry.

Sachin : He has absolutely earned this freedom of taking off after his great service to Indian cricket. All we need from him is another WC for india, and he is preparing for that. DONT bash him with IPL nonsense he is above IPL and above all in cricket, for he is GOD of cricket

Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Praveen Kumar,Ashish Nehra dont deserve a place in the team. Instead Robin, ishanth,rp and irfan should have been selected. Bhajji is a waste as a bowler.

  • playeroftheweek on June 8, 2010, 7:10 GMT

Uthappa is injured so he was not picked for the series. It is strange that Rayadu was overlooked. He qualifies in all the department. He is good batsman, fielder and a bowler. May be Tiwari belongs to Jharkhand is a criterion. At least Srikanth could leave out Vijay. Dinesh karthik is good at middle order but he is being forced to open the inning. It resulted in his omission from test squad and now from 50 overs team. My sympathies to him. We should have considered Irfaan. Dropping Yuvraj is welcome

  • rudresh1985 on June 8, 2010, 7:00 GMT

i biliev that changes required in slection commitie rather than in the team. i dont know on what basis they are selecting the team. i think they should consider all the departments like opening, middle order, finishers, bowling, all rounders, & fielders. for this team i would give 5 out of 10 points & also 30% of winning a tournament.

Guys @ ZeeshanAShah : I'm sure u cant even spell Sachin's full name properly without a spelling mistake & dont u dare to talk anything about him..U talk as if pakistan holds the world's best bowling attack..if that was the case u morons would not have lost defending 18 of the last over against MEK Hussey (Not even Australia) :) SRT & Akthar??? Wat a comparison..jus like a Phd holder & a guy who flunked in LKG :)) Someone stop this pls!!

Finally Yousaf Pathan is out. I am wondering what happened to Ishant Sharma. He was very promising in the start of his career. But I don't know whether he is injured or the selectors do not think he should be playing in the squad.

  • cricketmaniagola on June 8, 2010, 6:50 GMT

What for Tiwary haseen included for with world cup less than 15 matches away, in 1999 WC they picked A Khurasia, dashing stroke maker, his talent was wasted after a bad WC, Rahul Dravid like M hussey is a once in a generation player should have there for bolstering the fragile middle order, he is the most consistent if ever u compare with Raina, Rohit or Kohli, how many tinmes this Indian team has failed in last two years coz lack of a consistent batsman who cd stay there. Ajit agarkar with 288 wickets in 190 odd ODI, on flat Indian wickets, where is he, still the nippiest of indian bowlers, his reverse swing in middle overs could have been an asset alongwith I pathan who could bowl C vaas like cutters with keeper standing up, this was successful in first ever wT20 campaign, Taking wickets in middle overs u need some bowlers which only Australia and Pakistan have at the moment. Zaheer Khan should be presrved for Test if India r to maintain No1 in Test Cricket.

  • m___s on June 8, 2010, 6:50 GMT

Where is Ambati Rayudu ?... He is the only one, we can compared to one and only Sachin . No one remembers he was the captain of U19 team, in which Raina,Ishant etc were members ...We cannot ignore his talent because of his ICL participation...bring him inboard...

  • usman_nile1994 on June 8, 2010, 6:22 GMT

Abhimanyu Mithun and Irfan Pathan should get chance. Dropping Y pathan is right. Also Ashwin should play in place of Jadeja as he can bat and bowl better. Also Rayudu , Pujara and Rahane should have been tried in tri-series India should go with this team. 1Sehwag 2Gambhir 3Kohli 4 Tiwary 5 Sharma 6 Raina 6 Dhoni 7 Ashwin 8 Harbhajan9 9 Zaheer Khan 10 Dinda 11 Praveen Kumar 11

  • bunnychip9 on June 8, 2010, 6:14 GMT

I agree with Luv2Smile. Why didn't Sachin "rest" during the IPL? I find it funny that a man who doesn't play T20 internationals decides to participate in the circus called the IPL, and then back out of a tournament that involves arch rivals Pakistan, and familiar rivals Sri Lanka. I admire Tendulkar, but find this decision a bit baffling.

  • vinayjayaram on June 8, 2010, 6:08 GMT

If he takes rest like this,he can complete 25 or 30 years also in International Cricket..

  • shah_1 on June 8, 2010, 6:07 GMT

Is Sreekant deserve to be a chief selector??? Where is Irfan? He is 1000 times better than Praveen Kumar, Dinda & Jadeja.... And why to drop Yuvraj??? He is a kind of player who just need a game to be back in form... Why to waste such talent??? Somebody please tell sreekant that stop choosing CSK players.. Dhoni, Raina, Ashvin, M. Vijay.. How many more?? Most of us want Irfan Pathan in national team.. They don't even select him for Zim. series.. He is the experience player.. May be results would have been different.. God help him.. Irfan truly deserves a chance...

  • on June 8, 2010, 6:00 GMT

batting line up seems to be good xcpt the missing backbone( sachin ). apreciable decisions - yuvi OUT nd tiwary IN. jadedja has done quite wel in zimbawe tour.. but the most shockin thing is WAT the hell is DINDA doin in the squad ?? robin utthapa is injured ,, but he shld hv given chance in the t2o world cup ,,, our selectors are blind as alwezz

well itz already decided .. our discussions cant change the squad now ,,

gud luck to team INDIA !!!

  • AusFan619 on June 8, 2010, 5:59 GMT

it has never been a question of talent for india, even the team that went to Zimbabwe was immensely talented. the problem for india is team spirit, The willingness to contribute as a team......... they can learn a lot from Sri Lanka, Small nation but lot of team spirit

  • on June 8, 2010, 5:59 GMT

Good sachin is taking rest...hectic schedule ahead..Team overall looks good. Jadeja should be kicked out as early as possible. He doesn't have the potential to win matches. We are grooming someone who just cannot win matches of his own. Irfan is a better option and ofcourse yuvraj is a better allrounder than him any day.. Tiwari is a good pick. Robin utthappa should have got a chance. My team would have been: MS Dhoni (capt & wk), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma,Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Praveen Kumar, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Pragyan Ojha,Irfan Pathan, R Ashwin, Saurabh Tiwary.

  • on June 8, 2010, 5:53 GMT

Its difficult to fathom why Rahul Dravid is sitting at home instead of batting for India..and its still more difficult to fathom why Sachin Tendulkar is resting while he should be playing for his country. If he needed rest, he should have taken it during the IPL. And he has years of rest left for him after he retires. I too wanted to spend time with my parents, but I had to go to the college! Sad state of affairs!!

Anyway 50over format is dying and after sachin smashed 200 runs in an innings there's nothing more left in it to watch so don't bother wacthing it.

Sachin Tendulkar rested? I had a lot of respect for this great man but now he wants to rest instead of playing for India? Did he ever rest for Mumbai Indians? Maybe right now he's just vacationing after all that IPL money he earned playing IPL. This shows where the loyalty lies now. IPL teams are more important than playing for India. Next time, I iwhs he takes rest during the IPL so that he can turn out playing for India. Pathetic...

  • Sonoual on June 8, 2010, 5:31 GMT

Why the selectors are not giving chance to Irfan Pathan & Robin Utappa to show their talents. Both are match winners. They can turn the matches on their own. Utappa was most consistent performer with his bat in IPL & he was symbol of danger for all bowlers as he was thrashing them all over the park in quick fire style. Why always Jadega is being picked in front of Irfan Pathan? Irfan is more talented & better performer than Jadega whether in bowling or batting. Irfan is the best all-rounder available in this country believe it or not believe it. One time he was the apple of selectors' eyes. Some people were saying he is Kapil dev and Wasim Akram of future. Every player goes through bad phase in his playing days so does he? But now he has rectified the mistake and improved a lot. So why not being given the chance for come back? Could anyone point out the reason behind ignoring him by selectors? He is far better than the new coming bowler in the squad. Please don't disappoint by ignoring

@ Tom1m if u drop Harbhajan, then the only consistent bowler of the recent past will be missing. He has been the most economical while everybody else went for over 7 an over. Still feel Dravid should be in. Dissapointed for Uthappa. Anybody noticed Karthik missing. Good to see R.Jadeja and P.Ojha staying in.

  • on June 8, 2010, 5:27 GMT

I would Say Uthappa is Defintely an Asset,Including him in squad makes people like Raina ,Kohli and Rohit to work hard for their position ,looks like for almost all matches this is the 11 ,Dhoni,Viru,Guatam,Raina,Rohit,Kohli,Jadeja,Bhajji,Nehra,Zaher and Praveen.

Most likely this will be team ,Until unless Some one injures ,i belive no one else will be played its just a listing of the players for Serving drinks ,and for practice .Players like Uthapa ,Irfan will make Other players work hard for their positions bcz they are genuine replacements if some one fails in the games, but they cant replace rohit/raina/kohli withsourabh tiwary or Include Ashwin for bhaji ,if bhaji is replaced its most likely Ojah will be coming in ,so why these Selectors fooling people among themselves ,May be these are so called State POlitrics

why sachin does not taken rest during ipl season which include 14 legue match and 2 other match. and stay for 45 days.Is the commitement towards the mis.neetha ambani is higher than indian commitement. after all i have great respect for sachin tendulker he have served enough for the countrey in last 20 he can take decisions his own. the selection commitee always select tamil nadu and csk players only. i think ravindra jadaja play next year to csk.robin uthappa more suited to no 7 than irfan pathan as a batsman and by this we can avoid selecting second wicket keeper.if youvaraj and loat of part time spinners are already there. also patan has giver enough chance to present his potential to international level but he is failed.patan is not shahid afridi.Irfan patan has to given chance he is good prospect for alrounder even though he is failed after the 2006 westindise second come back in icc world cup t20 he stayed onlu 4 he is out of order after mid 2008.

We have traditionally had a light blue outfit with a light yellow streak. The Hockey team also wears this. Now is the BCCI becoming law unto themselves so that they can change the national colours? In this outfit, they look like railway porters and indeed played like that in Zimbabwe. Come to think of it, ever since they changed the colours, they have hardly held aloft a cup!

  • on June 8, 2010, 4:35 GMT

Whatever you may all say..Srikant has selected a good team.Though it is unfortunate that sachin is missing,it was a bold decision o drop yuvraj singh. He is ought to be taught the lesson that nobody is greater than the game itself. As for the batting ,it can challnge any bowling line up in the world especially in sub continent conditions.Very happy to see ashok dinda in the side, he is a raw fast bowler, and should be encouraged to ball fast.He has a lot of potential & needs some time to settle. It is good to see a young raw fast bowlerbeing encouraged than a jaded ishant or sreesanth...Ishant better enjoy summer vacations & sreesanth better try your feet at dancing rather than bowling...

  • mdwasifimam on June 8, 2010, 4:32 GMT

why jadeja given one more chance and Pathan dropped. Pathan dropping is some logic but retaining Jadeja is illogical. Also Irfan pathan should have been selected but bcauz he is geniune alrounder. I think selectors spoiling his future or revenging some thing with Irfan. It is not good for health for Indian cricket.

  • on June 8, 2010, 4:23 GMT

At last wisdom has dawned on Srikanth - Yuvi should hv been sent packing ages ago - with his high headedness, careless attitude and arrogance, he is a distraction in the dressing room. Moreover, he is an unfit guy and is seen more in parties and with girls these days - he needs to play in Ranji and Duleep tophies, prove himself and then only replace some one ion the side. I can tell u that he will hate toprove himself as he believes more in past records to stay in the team! Its unfortunate that Srikanth has continued to believe in Nehra - this guy lacks pace, does not know to bowl yorkers at the death and is totally inconsistent - with his arrogance coming to light of late, as well, such fellas should be shown the door. Ishant is a better bet any day. I am surprised that Robin is missing in the team - he is one guy who is a complete team man. God knows, when Srikanth will learn from his mistakes - is there no one to judge is performance?

  • V.GOMES on June 8, 2010, 4:13 GMT

BCCI wants Sachin to be included in the World Cup squad that's why he is not playing much cricket now. If he plays and fails, then BCCI will be compelled to drop him from the World Cup squad, which they DO NOT want to do. So hope you guys get it - BCCI wants Sachin to get a world cup under his belt (by hook or by crook). Our next worry - is the 2011 World Cup taking place in India going to be FIXED. Match-fixing allert for ICC.

  • on June 8, 2010, 4:12 GMT

Why aren't The selectors choosing Rahul Dravid , Dinesh Karthick , Ishant Sharma , Munaf Patel for the One-Day side , I guess , they have performed well when given chance and can very well replace Saurabh Tiwary , Ashoka Dinda , R Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha ?

  • vinaykn on June 8, 2010, 4:03 GMT

I do not think Sachin leaving Asia cup for family reasons is not correct. When some one is looking for World Cup, he must respect these two. It is already 6 weeks since he played activie cricket. If it is IPL, he could played with injury hand also. :-) It is not good that people are not showing interest to ASIA cup and it is becomming boring. Earlier it used be good tournament.

  • luv2smile on June 8, 2010, 3:32 GMT

How come Sachin doesn't rest during the IPL? Such pathetic excuses that he needs the rest! Maybe next time he should rest as much as possible during the IPL so he can play in all formats of the game for India.

I fail to understand why we cannot have a "strong" team out of the billions of Indians!!!! We are still searching for good fast bowlers despite having the training facilities and academies!!! Changes to Indian Cricket is inevitable.

  • Tom1m on June 8, 2010, 3:14 GMT

Sachin rested...fine. Yuvi dropped...good. He needs to get some perspective. Yousuf Pathan dropped....ok. He will perform only if Shane Warne tells him in English to perform. But why is Harbajan still selected?? He has to be dropped so that he can get some perspective too. We desperately need to develop all-rounders and so it is good that Jadeja has been given a chance again. ZeeshanAShah, it is clear from your comments that you are mentally retarded.

I would be very happy to see,if irfan is picked ahead of nehra. Selectors should gave uthappa a chance since sachin is not playing and tiwary don't have much intl. exposure. It is a good looking team after the inclusion of sehwag, gambir, dhoni and harbhajan. But our bowling is not upto the world class and fielding is even poor. Hope they will rectify it in this series and All The Best Team INDIA.

Neglected Dravid again...shows the mental disorder of selectors.....hell with this team.

  • eyaniv on June 8, 2010, 2:46 GMT

The only confusing part about the selection is the pace battery and a second option for a spinner. Why didn't we want to try out Sreesanth or Munaf or even Ishant (sigh!) in Zimbabwe..... to see if there's some sign of form -- surely we don't expect Dinda, Umesh, Vinaykumar or Pankaj to be in the WC squad. We need to form the core group for the WC soon and I am sure these guys (Sreesanth, Munaf, Ishant) must be somewhere in the top 25 names. Also good move with R Ashwin.....but will Dhoni ever try him in the Asia Cup? Too soon to tell..... The weak part is still the middle order. It's all good for Rohit to get back to back 100s against Zim....can he do that against Pakistan or a full strength Lanka team? We are also missing an all rounder.... who's that going to be -- Jadeja? I don't think so.... K Srikkanth and co have their work cut out in the next few months in finding an effective middle order and a good all rounder and pace battery.

  • ikp28 on June 8, 2010, 2:37 GMT

@mr.aravind velamur srinivasan ok i agree robin is injured and cannot be selected but how can you say that irfan doesnt deserve a place and is not a bowler??? for your reminder in most of the occasion he is the one who provides break through for indian team in any of the format...and he can bat as why not consider him a batting all-rounder rather than a bowling all-rounder?? atleast he is better than ashok dinda and ravindra jadeja and i believe even better than praveen he deserves a place in the squad more than some of the players who has been selected in this tournament...

  • on June 8, 2010, 2:36 GMT

all of the people saying jadeja was a right pick in the team, i dont think so, yes he bowled poorly in t20 world cup, then we should drop him in t20 only not in odi its different formet he playing well in zim tour he scored 2, 50 and bowled decently, wat yosuf did there nothing so droping him is correct, always bating look very strong and bowling look very poor, winning the trophy is in bowlers had, i think dinda bowled very he should get a chance in all asin cup matches, if baji zak and nehra don well then we can win the cup

  • NaveenBL on June 8, 2010, 2:20 GMT

For all those ppl who think Sreesanth should have been included in the team, do you guys even remember watching limited overs cricket while he was in the squad? If not, please have a look at his stats. He has the worst economy rate among players who have played more than 50 matches in the ENTIRE HISTORY of ODI cricket. His 'exceptional seam position' hasn't done much in one dayers. To add to that, his attitude on the field is a disgrace to this country. Regarding Ravindra Jadeja, well its pretty obvious now that he has some politician backing him. The selectors couldn't have done much about the rest of the squad, the bowlers who have been selected, not world class by any means for sure, but are the best that we have. We have to accept that. And that comment about Sachin being scared of Shoaib (by ZeeshanAShah ).... Ha ha ha.... Dude, that was very funny.... you have a great sense of humor....

  • gunjan on June 8, 2010, 2:10 GMT

in my opinion this is a very strong squad, although i would still like to see SRT play but i understand that he needs time with family. Everyone who is upset with the selection of Jadeja in the squad should calm down. He only had some bad performances. Everyone is off their natural game from time to time. We have to understand that he is excellent all rounder and can be a lethal weapon. i like that yusuf is gone, he had enough chances. Ashwin should be taken instead of Ohja, he is been much more consistent. All in all the squad looks pretty good. Young players, all good at fielding! Good luck to Tiwari on his debutant match!

  • KTKAndy on June 8, 2010, 1:59 GMT

Mr.Srikanth, You did a fabulous job! Dropping Yuvraj Singh, you send a very strong message to every senior player in the team. If you not fit, or you don't have passion for the game, or if you think you are bigger than the game, no matter who you are, you will be dropped. I like the bold decision. You are a bold man. You don't care what others say. I like the attitde. Again, result doesn't matter but the the way how you play the game matters the most. Everybody asks question about munaf, RP, they are not good fielders.. But you should have included Dinesh Karthik, he has been very consistent and he is always in the game 100%. Good Job done Mr.Kris Srikanth. If Sachin comes in to this squad for the world cup, i think we have very good chance to make it to the play off.

    Andy, Turks & Caicos Islands.

  • subhash.bose on June 8, 2010, 1:47 GMT

Where is Ambati Rayudu ?????? He was pretty solid in the middle order playing for MI..he should have been picked for playing in Zimbabwe...should have also been picked up for the Asia cup as well

  • boris6491 on June 8, 2010, 1:20 GMT

This is a gutsy and admirable decision to omit Yuvraj by the selectors. I am glad they have done so because at the moment, his contributions are negligible, his attitude is disgraceful and he needs to be cut down to size. Kiran More's belief that they need to include him to prepare for the world cup side is misguided as the selectors have dropped him to send him a message: carry on the way you are and you won't even get a berth in that world cup squad. I am very pleased at this decision as it shows the selectors are looking for performance rather than reputation. The younger guys need to improve following the average performance in Zim and I think it will be upto Dhoni to unify a team which was led very averagely by Raina. Great to see Tiwary in there too, he gets no recognition playing the Plate Division and performed well beyond expectations in the IPL and deserves a go. I am still skeptical about Jadeja but he is skating on thin ice no doubt. Omitting Yusuf was also correct.

  • Cafire on June 8, 2010, 1:14 GMT

a million dollar question why still Jadeja is in d squad? What is the role of Jadeja in the team? Is he a spinner? Then Ojha can be 10 times better than him... Is he Good at batting Then Ashwin is a better choice to replace him... Do u think he is a all rounder Then irfan is 100 times better than him....

  • Bombayorker28 on June 8, 2010, 0:58 GMT

Drop Jadeja now selectors, He is NOT a batsman/bowler/fielder, why are you dragging him in your search for allrounder, Play a specialist instead.

  • on June 7, 2010, 23:24 GMT

Srikanth, You were very good opening batsman... But you are not good selector at all...

    Please don't do more damages...

My Team for India Virender Sehwag (C), MS Dhoni (Wk), Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Robin Uthappa, Yousuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Praveen Kumar, Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan, Pragyan Ojha, Sathish, R Ashwin, Saurabh Tiwary.

  • cricveriyan on June 7, 2010, 23:11 GMT

Jadeja is doing much better than Yuvraj> So, It's not bad at all ! Good move to drop Yuvi.

  • on June 7, 2010, 22:48 GMT

Well, In my opinion the selectors itself should be changed by the BCCI and there is no blame with the players coz every player has quality but the selector always put them under pressure and thats the reason they could not perform well i believe. So BCCI should throw out Srikanth & Kirmani and bring some other instead.

  • kushchandna on June 7, 2010, 22:24 GMT

I am not angered on Sachin's decision of not playing, but just would have loved him backing India with his bat to make them the Asian Champs.

According to me playing 11 must be: Gambhir Sehwag Kohli RSharma Raina Dhoni PKumar Harbhajan Zaheer POjha Nehra

Can any body tell me, who should be excluded when Sachin will make a return.. Please consider the requirement of atleast five players who could ball good... And, I won't appreciate exclusion of Rohit Sharma.. He is the "Rising" Dravid for India...

  • kushchandna on June 7, 2010, 22:15 GMT

I think its the best selectors could do? I even don't criticize them for selection made for Zimbabwe tour. It was not a tour of as much importance as in coming future tours. It demonstrated in front of everyone that our first-class bowlers still have to work a lot harder than they are doing. Yuvraj & Yousuf's drop was as expected and I would appreciate it. They need to have a work out in local cricket first. R.Jadeja's exclusion was not possible as he had played two nice innings at a time when other batsmen couldn't do anything. M.Tiwary is a correct choice at a correct time. He would challenge Jadeja's place. But, a single pin hole about selection, in my views, is inclusion of three specialist spinners. Ashwin had performed well but he must not have been take when we already had Ojha and Harbhajan. Exclusion of Naman Ojha was also surprising. But this decision can't be criticized as it was sure that he won't be able to make up to final 11... Hope everythin be good at Asia Cup

  • Sliderman on June 7, 2010, 22:11 GMT

People seriously need to lay off Jadeja. He shouldn't have been in the T20 team in the first place. In ODIs, Jadeja is our most economical bowler over the last year, and he's averaging over 40 with the bat. He also chips in with wickets every now and then. He's not meant to bat at 7, but he has shown he has good technique and that he can tonk the ball if needed. Not to mention, the guy's only 20, and he's done better than most youngsters do at the international level so far. Yusuf has failed at both aspects and thus, has been dropped.

  • Moen on June 7, 2010, 22:03 GMT

where is selector they cant see uttappa and irfan, please dont make ascuss take positive decision and be fair with player and again its true that there no place for jadeja in 60squad also atleast yusuf pathan will be tha match winner batsman and thank god selector have notice yuvraj singh.

  • on June 7, 2010, 21:29 GMT

Robin Uthappa should be given a chance after his stint in the IPL. India dont need part-timers, we need specialists to be drafted in the side. Piyush Chawla would have been a much better bet. On the fast bowling front, India should hire a permanent bowling coach. This team needed a Rahul Dravid.

  • Darsh12345678910 on June 7, 2010, 21:24 GMT

This is to all Guys and Girls who is against Ms Dhoni, Dhoni is the player who can change the game by his captaincy skills like he did in the first edition of T20, against Aussies, against England and Newzealand. He can also change the game with his mature batting style and also behind the wickets. Okay now there is a question.... Name me a player who is better than him???

  • Vineeth.Maddela on June 7, 2010, 21:16 GMT

JADEJA is Waste!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't understand why and on what basis is he making into the team. One has to seek explanation from the selecters. Fans are very frustated seeing him in action. He cannot bat for sure. Bowling figures of 10-0-50-1 can be managed by any other player. Is'nt there a better allrounder in the team. Frustrating. If we have to prepare for the 2011 World Cup! then sorry JADEJA is not the right player. He has to be dropped. Players like Rayudu should be given a chance.

  • on June 7, 2010, 20:24 GMT

For all those people asking for Uthappa.. He is injured... I will repeat again.. he is INJURED... He just had surgery in England and is recovering.. INJURED.. Stop blaming the selectors for everything!! And Irfan Pathan doesn't deserve a place.. he can't bowl with the new ball, he can't bowl with the old ball, he can't bowl in the middle overs.. then why is he a bowler!! And i can't imagine people supporting Irfan!! Come on!!

  • TeAm_InDiA_Harsh on June 7, 2010, 20:06 GMT

Nice to see Saurabh Tiwari getting this chance... But this is one series late i gues.. but anyways we have to forget the past and lets go for the next tours.. This looks a good team without yuvi and sachin. Current yuvi is seriously useless, and cricket is always above any player.

Dhoni's captaincy is always a plus for team india.

We look in good shape specially with batting.

Again as all have said, IRFAN must get a chance because of his talent and experience. Its been long now we have seen him in action for the team. He is a match winner.

    All the best TEAM INDIA.

  • IssacJohn on June 7, 2010, 20:05 GMT

This batting squad is better..But Bowling side...? Zaheer...? Praveen...? Nehra....? wicket taking bowlers in Indian side.....? Im not sure, but in critical matches they all are giving runs and not at all accurate...we need some striking bowlers having accuracy of Mcgrath..we are having lots of spinners, but as an All rounder Irfan is a better option...

  • thejuskrishna on June 7, 2010, 20:05 GMT

Yuvi has been dropped and it is indeed a correct decision. They should learn a lesson and they must earn their place in the team rather than following "one innings king" method, the problem that is hurting India a lot! "Once he plays an innings, he is a certain one for the next 20-25 games!"

  • on June 7, 2010, 20:03 GMT

dhoni is the main cause of india's poor performance in world cup ,drop him n jadeja instead of yuvraj n irfan

  • HOTCHA on June 7, 2010, 19:52 GMT

The selectors could have done better than pick Dinda and Nehra. Dinda with his jerky action can never be express, and Nehra looked tired in his last outing - clearly on his last legs. The selectors should have returned to the experienced RP Singh and Sreesanth or even Ishant Sharma, if fully fit

  • shivalseth on June 7, 2010, 19:41 GMT

Well I completely agree with the decision of Sir Sachin Tendulkar of resting. Though his absence will be well felt but its time for him to priorities and play keeping in mind his fitness. I completely disagree with the selection committee as with the immense talent in our nation still the non performing players are selected. I would like to voice out that the selection process has to be much more aggressive and dynamic based on player's performance. With the current performance in Zimbabwe Indian bowling attack looked very ordinary. Asia Cup is one of the most important series for India this year. Where India locks horns with one of the best competition in the game (Pakistan). This is the best time for the selection committee to pull up there socks. Very important for MS Dhoni with the kind of reputation and the recent team performance to lead with an example.MSD has to be spontaneous. Win ingredients: - intelligent batting with decent fielding and controlled bowling will be the key.

  • on June 7, 2010, 19:35 GMT

  • topspeed55 on June 7, 2010, 19:22 GMT

This selection commitee is doing blunder after blunder. I am sure this commitee will die miserably but I am really concern and hope its not too late. I hope BCCI realises that. The team led by Raina couldn't win a single game against Zimbabwe isn't this enough to open their eyes. Yusuf Pathan was under utilized and now he is dropped. Irfan Pathan is not given a chance at all. Let Irfan play under Zaheer's guidance and see if it works out. Robin Uthappa should also be given chance to strengthen the middle order since yuvraj is left out. He can be a very good finisher. Its hard to understand what our selection commitee thought process is.

  • prashnottz on June 7, 2010, 19:14 GMT

Sachin has played 17 ODIs and 7 tests in the last 12 months. Add to that half day affairs in the IPL and it is a total of just 69 "working days" out of 365 days for him. Hardly body wrenching soul draining work that! Anyways BCCI is his employer, and if they have no issues, and that Sachin knows about himself better than anyone, I don't think it is proper to make a comment without knowing his side of things. I'd pay my arm to see Sachin up and running at full steam in the World Cup and in the intervening test matches, so this is rather a small price to pay.

Interesting selections otherwise, I'd have loved to see bit of Ishant, Sreesanth and Munaf. Where have been these three cold storaged? I couldn't find them in the Zim series nor are they in the A tour to England. And now they aren't in this squad too. Pathetic lack of vision from our selectors if they genuinely think India's pace future exists without atleast two of these three.

  • on June 7, 2010, 19:12 GMT

guys, the reason robin uthappa has not been chose, or at least the reason he was not considered is because he is injured! he has just undergone surgery and is on a 3 month lay off

Thank God ... we haven't got too many of d guyz posting here - selecting ODI Teams for India ... Most of d ppl are still stuck up wid Uthappa's good show in d IPL ... we have already seen Murali Vijay and Yusuf failing to replicate their IPL form while playin for India .. and all those who feel that Uthappa has been a consistent performer throughout the season, let they be informed that he was 8th in d list of Batting Avgs for Karnataka in d Ranji Trophy and 42nd in d overall Batting Charts gettin 382 runs in 12 ings spread over 8 games at an avg. of less than 32 wid 4 50s ... Think all stats dont lie ... and d great all rounder Irfan Pathan .. How can every1 forget his pathetic bowling in d last 15 odd games he played for India ?? And d inability to defend 20 off d last over in Kings XI's last game where he dished up 2 Half-Volleys promptly despatched out of d ground by MSD ... To cut short .. Great Selection .. Yuvi had 2 b dopped .. Real excited about seeing Ashwin bowl on SRL wkts

Sachin Tendulkar drooped himself from Asia Cup because he scare from Rawalpindi express(Shoib Akhter ) he remember when Shoib bowled him on first bowl in India. You people tell.. he did not play T20 Worldcup and also not the tri series again Zim and Srilanka, How much time he needs for rest. He knows he can not face Pakistan Bowling pace. He is the player of dead indian wickets. HE can play in India only. Sachin play for himself just for his own record not for the team of India.Pakistan Will destroy indian team again like Last ICC Champion trophy.

  • on June 7, 2010, 19:05 GMT

  • ABP235 on June 7, 2010, 18:50 GMT

I am very happy for Tiwary's inclusion, but I only hope that he gets a chance to play in the XI! Though his statemate from Jharkhand and captain dhoni will try to find a way to give him a chance, Dhoni will also know that if Tiwary succeeds, then his friend Yuvraj will be out permanently! What a difficult situation to be in for Dhoni!!! Sachin is in fact doing it himself what the selectors cannot! ie, resting him from these small tournaments, preserving him for the bigger tasks. It would have been great if Sachin and Dravid were used interchangingly for ODIs so that there would have been at least one senior player to hold one side up with the other end given to the flashy customers like Raina etc. These days, everyone is expected to dive around to make run saves and there is a risk of injury to key players. The best way to preserve Sachin is to rest him from such trination or four nation ODIs and keep him fit for tests and perhaps 2011 world cup.

  • kalyanbk on June 7, 2010, 18:41 GMT

I think most comments will say Robin Uthappa and Irfan Pathan instead of Ravindra Jadeja and Ashok Dinda. Irfan however has to be capable of taking wickets as he used to and opening the bowling if required. The great thing about Robin is that he can play at any position. Tiwari is a good choice but this team still seems to have a couple of loose links.

  • Manjunath_Belagur on June 7, 2010, 18:35 GMT

Srikkanth is definitely playing politics to accomodate Tamil Nadu players in the Indian team. This selection is a complete political game. Firstly, to accomodate or to bring Ganapathy into limelight, Mithun was despatched for Indian team in Zimbabwe. Now, Mithun has been omitted without any valid reason. This selection policy has deprieved Mithun a chance to prove his game either in India's A team or Indian Senior Team. Now, Mithun has to sit back in his home without any games. At least if Mithun had been in India A team in England, he could have played in matches there. Sourabh Tiwary has been selected based on few games in IPL. But, inspite of proving his talent in domestic games & IPL, Manish Pandey has not been considered ahead of Sourabh Tiwary.

Yusuf has been given a much-needed break to sort out his poor form and regain his confidence. But if you desire to put to rest all the fitness problems, rotation policy is a must. Rest shouldn't bring rust. Instead of playing for long on the trot and then resting for a full series, it would be better if players sat 1-2 match(es) out after every 5-6 matches. That will help in building a good bench strength.

I dont understand why Irfan Pathan is over looked for the selection, considering none of the bowlers included in the current squad has achieved any greatness in the recent past. I think Irfan would be a better option than jadeja. He is a more sound batsman, and he hasnt done too badly either with the ball. He should get a look in. There are far too many in the squad who doesnt deserve a place.

  • DabanggDesi on June 7, 2010, 17:28 GMT

Oh well Sachin wants rest again so he can be with his kids before the busy schedule. lots of poeple complaining that with out sachin it's weak team. But what will we do when he retires? I know it's not soon but some day it will happen so we should play other people and train them. Also Irfan Pathan, Balaji, Rp Singh & other should be given chance. Because they all have the experience so it will be handy. Bowling Dept looks weak but batting Dept looks fine. We have experience to play again fast bowling of pakistan. All i hope is that our team brings back the Asia cup after what happened in last one. Mendis better watch out this time. Yuvraj does need some time off so he can become fit. Nearly fatso can't move that fast and looks sleepy all the time. Looking at him either bat, bowl or field feels like he is lazy and just want to crash out after drinking some beers. So good that he's out for little bit. Hope he can get back to his sences & become half Dhoni. Take care ya'll.

Cricket is a team game; no individual is important or any other individual record is important,, its never like tennis, chess, badminton, athletics worst people following individuals and supporting them for their satisfaction only.. ST II in the making like Sri Sri, Matha, Amma, Sai etc..Pathetic people,, Credit goes to democracy..All deserve it..Expecting some comments ,,U people are the representative of the particular nation,,When ever and whatever happens, its a matter of ST..Blind belief in the uncivilised era was better outlook than this,,The word true HELL is in the minds of those who r working for others like ST,, not for themselves..Once ST is no more what will happen ?? Nothing ,, People will carry on with other good things,, and for some it will be the end of the universe..A single thrown in the leg is enough to walk WAS SO SELFISH IN CRICKET FIELD,,IS SELFISH WITH MANY OTHER WAYS AND WILL BE SELFISH IN ALL MEANS.. AND U PEOPLE ARE SUPPORTING THEM..

it is not a good selection we are not having fast bowling allrounder,

i think irfan should be selected for future tours

  • Solution on June 7, 2010, 17:19 GMT

OUT OF FORM: Selectors are out of form. Need to rest them.....where is UTTAPPA/IRFAN!!!

  • on June 7, 2010, 17:11 GMT

nehra and ravi jadeja should be out,

robin and irfan should come in,

give chance to irfan, he is the genuine all rounder india having, definitely india s missing the service of him for past year....

  • happy_221 on June 7, 2010, 17:10 GMT

i can't understand why they have picked ravinder jadeja in team despite losing two twenty20 world cup coz of him.irfan pathan is far more better then him.

  • manasvi_lingam on June 7, 2010, 17:09 GMT

Other thoughts: People who criticize Jadeja should remember that he is a bad T20 player but a decent ODI player. His Economy rate is much lesser than most of the pace bowlers such as RP, Ishant, Sreesanth, etc.He also averaged 65.5 with the bat this series which was only bettered by Rohit. And I would have selected Rahane or Pujara ahead of Tiwary. Both of them are solid players who can still score runs at a good pace. Tiwary doesn't look comfortable against genuine swing/pace bowlers of international quality.

  • markrufus on June 7, 2010, 17:09 GMT

Giv us a solid reason?? Y Robin Utthappa is not included?? He s the best in India now..

Much much betterteam considering the Man Mr. Srikkanth and his past selections. Its a big relief to see that his favourites, Karthik, Yusuf and Vijay are dropped. And also nice to see that Ozha is there in the team whom Srikkanth used to pick, drop and then pick. So better senses have prevailed. Still there could have been some changes. Like a back-up opening batsman in absence of Sachin is missing. Either Dhawan or M Pandey could have made it in place of Tiwary, though Tiwary is a very good choice. Dinda is not a great bowler and in his place roockie A Mithun should have got the chance. Nehra appear to have lost the sting and donot fit the bill in ODI format. Either Irfan or RP Singh could have been tried. Asia Cup will be an acid test for the experienced bowlers like Harbhajan, Zaheer and Nehra. In the past they have gone for runs which had cost India the match. This is their chance show that they are still match winners. Otherwise they will the next in firing line like Yuvraj Singh.

  • gatta44 on June 7, 2010, 17:04 GMT

I agree with the selection of most of the players. Irfan and Ishant should have replaced JADEJA and DINDA. Why Robin Uthappa is not selected? Happy to see that Yuvraj, Yusuf, and Karthik are dropped. Yuvraj is talented and should get fit before return to team. Happy to see Viru is back.---------My playing XI is 1) Sehwag, 2) Gambhir, 3) Kohli, 4) Rohit, 5) Raina, 6) Dhoni, 7) Ashwin, 8) Harbhajan, 9) Praveen, 10) Zaheer, 11) Nehra. ----------I hope Ojha and Saurabh will paly some games. With best wishes.

Where is Irfan Pathan? And I wish Tendulkar had been playing - we are facing serious competition since both Pakistan and Sri Lanka are good teams and Bangladesh have improved a lot too. Taking Irfan Pathan would have been the right choice: a Pathan for a Pathan. Ashwin deserves his chance but the fourth pacer should have been Irfan Pathan's. Then we would have had three "all-rounders" to choose from: Ashwin, Jadeja and Irfan

Sachin has served Mother India for more than 20 years. He's the greatest player born on Indian soil. But how long he's going to play for the nation. People saying Team without Sachin is a weak team. But they've to play without Sachin also. When God wanted to play cricket, Sachin was born. But he is a person like us, for his personal comforts decided to rest himself. The team picked his highly appreciable, but Rohit despite two Centuries & Jadeja are still to prove themselves.

good team.....still missing sachin.....hope sehwag and dhoni fires.....and bring the trophy home....

  • on June 7, 2010, 16:51 GMT

No Ishant Sharma in the team is a REAL AWAKENING SIGN!!! Thank goodness..the likes of Yuvraj and Yusuf are dropped. However, the other Pathan brother (Irfan) being picked would have been a added bonus but R Ashwin being there shouldn't matter too much. All in all, a fairly decent selection.

  • saviom on June 7, 2010, 16:51 GMT

Good pick of Ashwin. But why is Jadeja there whereas we have a genuine allrounder Irfan Pathan just sitting simply. Do the selectors/Dhoni have any grudge against him.

  • on June 7, 2010, 16:33 GMT

Team looks great except the fact that we have Bhajji, Ojha and Ashwin the squad. Ashwin is far better a bowler than Jadeja and he bats as well. Therefore, Jadeja should've been dropped and selectors should've gone for another batsmen. We just have 7 main batsmen and if someone's injured, it's going to be tough.

Good to see Saurabh Tiwari in Indian team. but miss Sachin paji. also dont knw why they are keep showing "no chance" sign to Irfan Pathan. Irfan has done really good in IPL. Dinda is good to get a chance. they should really give irfan a chance to come back.

  • SamRoy on June 7, 2010, 16:24 GMT

AT LAST!!! At long last, they have kicked the SLOGGER out of the team. Been a fan of the Indian team for 20 years now.. since I was five. Been a sincere fan through thick and thin, even during the debacle in South Africa and Windies in 96/97. Well, there have been cricketers who have donned the India colours whom I didn't like but Yusuf Pathan was the first Indian player I hated with a passion. Every time he came to bat I was always happy to see the back of him. Such a stark contrast to his brother Irfan who used to be my favourite player in 2005. I just hope Yusuf never comes back. Nothing personal against him. Wish him the very best in his personal endeavours, I just hope he never comes back to don national colours, for the national team's sake.

  • nataraajds on June 7, 2010, 16:22 GMT

our great selectors again doing mistake in selecting tiwary & nehra. tiwary has talent , but need more experience. Nehra has injury problems & Dinda is inexperienced at this level & selectors are well aware of it. selecting young & inexperience talents and show them bench is not good and selectors should have learnt lesson after Zimbabwe series. Zaheer needs good bowling partner, selectors should have selected Uttappa for tiwary & given chance to Ishanth or RP in place of Dinda.

  • on June 7, 2010, 16:20 GMT

I liked the selection, but agree with most of you. Irfan in place of Dinda and Uthappa in place of Saurabh could have been great. Why people are questioning so much Jadeja's selection? He averages almost 39 in ODIs, takes a wicket in almost every match and bowls at less than 5 an over. May be at no-3 he can score even big runs. And I am just confused if Yuvraj can be dropped, why not Harbhajan? Harbhajan has gone wicketless in T20 world cup and with Ashwin, Ojha doing well there is no need for Mr Singh in the team.

From World cup point of view assuming Sachin and Yuvi Back, We would have an alomst fixed batting line up- Sachin, Sehwag, Gambhir, Kohli, Yuvi, Raina and Dhoni. If anyone goes out of form then Rohit or an Uthappa might comein. Jadeja might not be as effective as he is at number-8 in this team, so we need Irfan soon back in the squad who can swing the ball and score quickly. But bowling worries still remain. Only Zaheer is ok. Praveen, Nehra and others need to improve

  • on June 7, 2010, 16:14 GMT

holy snuff people.. Robin Utthapa is INJURED because of a shoulder injury. He would be out of cricket for 3 MORE WEEK.. STOP TALKING ABOUT HIM NOW...

  • arup_g on June 7, 2010, 16:10 GMT

Great to see Saurabh in the team! He looks a good talent and can seriously push Yuvraj for his place a big hitting left hander in the middle order. Yuvraj needs to see reality - he is unfit and his glam lifestyle needs to be cut! Just like when Sehwag was dropped, he came back with all guns blazing, this could be the chance fo Yuvi to show his real class. Great players make great comebacks - Viru, Ganguly, Laxman on numerous occasions, Sachin (when he was written off), and Zaheer Khan. Rohit Sharma needs a good run out in this tournament as does the likes of Kohli who for me is the future of Indian cricket. These younger guys though need to stay away from the fame and money of Indian cricket to prosper. Why can't more youngsters follow Sachin's footsteps...Yuvraj is no longer a role model for Indian cricket, and to a certain extend neither is Dhoni. If we must follow, it should be the legends - Gavaskar, Shashtri, Kapil Dev, Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly and Laxman.

  • needgreenpitches4bowlingallrounders on June 7, 2010, 16:05 GMT

Good team in first place there is no TN players like vijay / DK who r fit for nothing even after so many chances.SRT having rest is good for SRT and team india. We need to preserve him for big matches.Yuvi needed a break and this is better time rather then next year WC. Don't see irfan in probables list this is the only place selectors r hiding something on form,IPL3 , genuine ability irfan is way way better then any other allrounders like RJ,YP and co. over all gr8 batting order as usual and decent bowling order as usual. But experienced bowlers might create some pressure. Batsmen there is no doubt in my mind except sachin rest all deserved there spot. Jai Ho!!

  • satyasainvs on June 7, 2010, 16:04 GMT

Indian selectors should look ahead at I.pathan for world cup as an fast bowler allrouder. Don't forget he is only fast bowler allrounder we have. He should be grown up and give enough chances to build his confidence back before the world cup. Defenitely he is one of our best match winner. I prefer to play with 2 genuine fast bowler plus one fast bowler allrounder. Request selectors should not overlook at him and test him more before the world cup. Let him give a chance to regain his confidence. His attitude and fighting spirit can't be ignored.

I think this team is a mix of new and old player as it should be. India can't bank on Sachin all the time. Have to give new players a chance. On the other hand the recent tri-series weeded out some of the failures (read M. Vijay and Y Pathan). This series will be another preparatory one before the ODI world cup when I hope India will have a complete world-beating team.

  • aneeshgk on June 7, 2010, 15:59 GMT

Somewhere indian selectors are lacking vision.Anyone following cricket in india both domestic and international would say team selected for Zim was worst team ever.. I would say India D team. Now they come up with a team again lacking fast bowling line up. Zaheer good, but Ashish I really doubt he should be in one days. I bet he would not last full asia cup.He really lacks fitness. I would have loved to see ifran given a chance here. India should look at world cup with Zaheer, Praveen,Ifran,Sreesant ,and ishant. They are the best bowlers we have now.

Battingwise not at all to be worried.Rohit and Raina have all the capablity to make mark same way Dravid and Gagully did. Please give them as much batting as possible and promote them in batting. They will rock the world cup.

Yuvi is not disciplined one. Worst attitute. He thinks no one can touch his place in team. Right decision. Don't say he has 6 sixes out 6 in T20. We are more than crore people, we get good people if we start searching.

I have seen many times, players survive in team and also play in 11 because of thier name & fame even they are not fit. Common just go by basic rules. First fit then rest.

Good decision on Yuvi. Don't say he is injured.

We don't have genuine fast bowlers, that is truth.

As always the selectors are picking few more scapegoats. Naman Ojha just got one match to prove that he is worth a watch and then he has been pushed into the realms of darkness. Same happened with Umesh Yadav. Dinda has been picked just so that the selectors can say after the series that they gave him enough chances to prove himself but he fell short. Hope Tiwary doesnt give in that easily.

SACHIN TENDULKAR : we know all of his achievements etc in game but its curious ( could have used 'questionable') of his priorities towards the country.I know lot of people will jump at this - he's god no less for many - but what I present is pure facts as arguments - just consider them. He chose not to play international T20 saying 'its for youngsters' and then went on to play IPL. Then in peak summer he plays 16 T20 games in 45 days for his franchise (remember he's 37 ?) all over the country which also happens to be in the back-end of a long season. Then he withdraws from Zimbabwe triangular - it can be granted its an irrelevant series. But Asia Cup ? isnt it a prestigious ODI tournament, right after WC & champions trophy ? And also hasnt it been over 6 weeks since IPL finished? He wants to 'spend time with children' ? or is he healing some injury he got in IPL? Its time BCCI stopped coming up with such hogwash as explanation - Just say it is not in Tendulkar's priorities right now.

He is very talented but he needs to get his priorities straight. This should give him a reason to do so. *** Indian team hasn't progressed much since early-mid 90s. Without Tendulkar we aren't good at all. *** Welcome back Sehwag, Dhoni, Gambhir, Parveen Kumar, Nehra and Z. Khan.. *** I wished they would have dropped Harbhajan as well. It is the Selectors prerogative to pick and choose. No player must have the right to decide when and where he will play. Be it Tendulkar or Sobers or Bradman, how much so ever big a player you are,the game and Country are bigger than you.Harbhajan should have been dropped .Rest of the players selected are justified in their presence.Dinda will probably bring water ,gloves and messages from the dressing room.

Mr. Srikkanth says, players who have performed well in Ranji season have been picked. if thats true, then where is VINAY KUMAR who is the leading wicket taker for the Season followed by ABHIMANYU MITHUN who is the second leading wicket taker. Everyone knows that Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are like India and pakistan in the Domestic circuit. But, good players are to be given a chance. Vinay Kumar bowled better than the other 2 fast bowlers in the only match he played in Zimbabwe. Come on Srikkanth stop playing these cheap politics.....

Mark my words, this series is the last and final wake up call for Indian team and selectors before the WC-11. They need to decide a bunch of 20 guys and train them for the world cup now, they can't keep on experimenting till the very last moment! Come on Sehwag, we all are banking on you now!!!

  • on June 7, 2010, 14:58 GMT

nice balanced team..competition is so tough dat guys like uthappa, manish tiwari, vinay kumar, piyush chawla havnt yet got fair chance even after consistent domestic performance .. Very harsh for yusuf pathan. I think he has not been handled correctly by his captain.

  • prashanthbm88 on June 7, 2010, 14:55 GMT

i wonder y Robin has not been included ? he is apt for pp3 n moreover he is also experienced in international cricket.i would have liked Robin in this squad. well i dont know why is Dinda included n Ashwin!!!!!! though they have perofrmed it was not a wise decision to select them.Jadeja is he an all rounder ? he cat play big shots n oly anchor the innings. he is a waste as of now. Dravid shud have been given a chance to play coz he is the oly man for India during crisis!!!!!!!!

  • pradeepbharadwaj on June 7, 2010, 14:54 GMT

not to inculde a modern day one day international great in Yuvraj Singh becoz he didnt perform in IPL & a 20-20 world cup is ridiculous.Yuvraj's skills, his class, his big hitting is unmatched.Ridiculous that people like tiwary & Jadeja who cant clear 30yards get included and a batsman of yuvraj's class and skill gets dropped. Also i dont understand how you can drop Yusuf Pathan after giving him just one chance to bat in the top four where he scored 45!!

  • shayad on June 7, 2010, 14:54 GMT

Foolish selection by srikant & dhoni once again if Tendulkar is rested than why didnot they pick Dravid in terms of experience and S Tiwary again an IPL hero and International level Zero like yusuf .god save team india. asia cup final wil be l pakistan vs srilanka for sure.

  • on June 7, 2010, 14:53 GMT

If Tendulkar Need Rest for Every Tournament Let's Take Retirment.... I was waiting to see Clash Batting from him against PAk

  • kisrom on June 7, 2010, 14:52 GMT

Its a nice team selection. But ll b nice to hav included irfan pathan as the fast bowlers r not doing great job with ball nd atleast irfan can help wit bat.

  • Ekaadipathi on June 7, 2010, 14:50 GMT

still the team without sachin is a weak team!!!

  • on June 7, 2010, 14:47 GMT

Counting how many changes have they made to the team that toured Zimbabwe? Is this the real Indian team or understrength squad because Tendulkar is not playing?

  • on June 7, 2010, 14:44 GMT

I do not understand why the selectors keep getting very young people without giving them a little longer chance in Ranji. Then they peak to early and start to wither away as so many of our bowlers have did. They should pick Irfan as he is the only genuine fast bowling all-rounder we have. The team is already full of spin bowling all rounders. And isnt it better to stick with the pacers such as Munaf, RP, Ishant and Sreesaanth for some time before putting in new bowlers as Ashok Dinda, unless you get an exceptionally good fast bowler. I anycase i dont see Ashok Dinda being anywhere close to being a very good bowler.. If he is only as good as the others what is the point of giving new debuts to people when there are already others waiting who had mixed short careers and an equal promise....Dont understand this strategy of the selectors

  • on June 7, 2010, 14:44 GMT

Saurabh Tiwary is a surprise package... and as i wishd the team is... Hope they will bring ASIA CUP home..

  • SUNDOS on June 7, 2010, 14:40 GMT

Its good to see Ashwin and Ojha get another chance to perform. Its slow pitches, with Sri Lanka having upto 4 slow bowlers.Lucky Jadeja ,as the only "allrounder" he will surely get to feature in most matches. Its time to bring Ishant Sharma back.If this isnt done soon enough we will be wasting a talent.

  • Umair_umair on June 7, 2010, 14:36 GMT

Would have been nice to see a Match Sachin & Sehwag vs Asif & Shoaib, after such a long time. We missed that.

  • on June 7, 2010, 14:36 GMT

Great team :)..After so long, I am happy about the team selection this time..Hope it does well.

  • roninja1999 on June 7, 2010, 14:34 GMT

I would say Tendulkar's priorities are quite rightly the ODI World Cup and Test Cricket, anything else now is irrelavant. Test Cricket records will be his legacy to the game and India (if the public understand it!), and an ODI honours in terms of a 2nd win for India will be the crowning glory.

India also needs to keep trying out the fringe players, they need experience whilst bringing in the likes of Dhoni, Tendulkar and Sewag for the main event. Blend these with the Kohli's, Sharma's and Raina's and India has a chance. More worrying is the bowling.....

  • on June 7, 2010, 14:33 GMT

Good to know Tiwari got a call for this series. Question is will he be included for a play or just warm up bench like new candidates for the team!

  • boronia_rider on June 7, 2010, 14:32 GMT

i m glad to see new faces(performing guys) like ashwin, who batted n bowled well in his one game in recent series,on other hand dinda has shown some firey pace on zimbabwean tracks.ojha is better than mishra in odi's,team management is uncertain about yousaf's role in team(he needs to work on his game as well he s not able to pull a short ball coming on 125kms/hr)yuvi n vijay dont deserve a place, with guys like jadeja and ashwin(spinning allrounders) m not sure irfan can get a place or not?

  • Hotchner on June 7, 2010, 14:28 GMT

Also Dhoni will have to go lay down the order and will be under pressure since there is no otehr power hitting batsmen avaialble. We all know Jadeja can only rotate strike and score run a ball and those never earn a match for India.Only can consider him as a Spinner and Irfan pathan would have been far better much of crap in selection continues....

  • Solution on June 7, 2010, 14:28 GMT

Good to get Seniors back. Looking at how junior players performed in tri-series, now We know how great players are Sehwag/Dravid/Sachin/Laxman/Ganguly.... These greats played really hard with lot of passion when they were new. For Junior players these greats should be the role models not Yuvi. Cricket is not about parties and not just about talent; it is about focus/concentration/passion. Out of one billion people its irony not able to find one player comes close to KapilDev.

  • on June 7, 2010, 14:26 GMT

I Don't agree with axeing Yuvraj and Yousuf plus i think India should re-think their fast bowling line up, I would replace Nehra, Dinda & Kumar with I.Sharma, Irfan & Balagi

  • on June 7, 2010, 14:26 GMT

what is Ravindra Jadeja doing in the squad ?? better to include Amit Mishra , Ali Murtaza..

  • Prad81_viji84 on June 7, 2010, 14:25 GMT

There are many positives and negatives in the selection of the indian team for the asian cup: 1) Why is Ravindra Jadeja included? 2) Why is Ashok Dinda included? 3) Where is Robin Uthappa and Irfan Pathan? Why are they not included?

Positive notes are: Viru, Captain cool, Gauti , Bhajji, Praveen, Zaheer & Ashish are back (but the doubt in my mind is are they going to be rusty in the tournament) At last some hopes of a youngster (Tiwary) included amongst the seniors Ashwin persisted in the team.

And my last wish for the Indian cricket board members. PLEASE develop fast tracks where our indian bowlers need to be persistent with pace. Fitness and fielding need to standardize to international level if we are to challenge any country. This is THE MANTRA to put a show case for the world cup which is to be held in the sub continents. LETS DEVELOP TEAM INDIA A VERSATILE TEAM TO COMPETE IN ALL THREE LEVELS. ALL THE BEST INDIA FOR THE ASIA CUP AND ALL YOUR FUTURE ENDEAVOURS. JAI HIND

oh....finally some meaningful selection. but still i dont quite understand the selection of r. jadeja ahead of irfan pathan. atleast I.Pathan shld be in place of dinda. I.Pathan is one of the promising fast blowing all rounders we have in india and he needs to be groomed...

  • umesh_srinivasan on June 7, 2010, 14:22 GMT

The selectors should be commented for dropping Yuvraj who clearly lacks commitment.Nobody is bigger than the game.

  • Hotchner on June 7, 2010, 14:22 GMT

Another disapponted selection from Indian selectors. This sort of selection even a S.S.L.C boy can do.They are destroying young Indian talent eventhough few areas they have improved. Why n.ojha did not get another chance ? Why Irfan pathan totally ignored by them again ?.Yousuf pathan should have given another opportunity since he proved that he can bat up in the order and smack some balls out of the ground. They dragged him low down the order too much and destroyed his confidence.Selectors again !!! shows they ignore tiny areas like this and let Indian team down

  • vsjzak on June 7, 2010, 14:22 GMT

  • u_sherza on June 7, 2010, 14:20 GMT

I don't think that the inclusion of Saurabh Tiwary is the right choice..definitely would I go with Rahul Dravid, where he would add experience to the team with Yuvraj and Tendulkar's absence. In fact, Rahul has been in very good form, whether you look at his IPL form or the last few ODI's he had played before losing his spot to Kohli, but anyway, my wishes go to the Indian team to clinch the Asia Cup

  • on June 7, 2010, 14:19 GMT

  • laXa on June 7, 2010, 14:16 GMT

I think Sachin had enough rest after the IPL was over. With all respect to Sachin the God, he could have taken the break by opting out of IPL. These modern day cricketers will ask the BCCI to give a brk from Intl commitments but y r they not doing it while the IPL is going on? Im sorry Sachin.. I am a die hard fan of u but this is very dissappointing.

  • HariAdivarekar on June 7, 2010, 14:12 GMT

This is an interesting team. I don't blame Sachin. There are only so many times you can see the same Sri Lankan faces. No offense. I'm sure Sanga is equally tired of seeing Dhoni's face at the toss. As the for the rest, I'm glad Yuvi has been given some more time, both for injury and fitness. He's claimed that he wants to get back to peak fielding and indeed batting form asap. I hope so, for Indian cricket. Yusuf was another no-brainer. Would have been nice if the more consistent, proven at IPL and domestic level, Shikar Dhawan, Rahane or Pujara got a chance over Tiwari, who still needs to prove his consistency. Glad to see Ojha, Dinda and Ashwin getting an extended run. I'm not so sure of Nehra's giraffe-chasing-a-cricket-ball fielding methods or Praveen's attitude but they do have a happy knack of picking up (expensive) wickets. Not that we have too much choice in the pace bowling dept. Oh Irfan, when will you get back to your swinging best? We need your all round skills so badly.

  • RaDIN on June 7, 2010, 14:12 GMT

Good team selection! Saurabh Tiwary is a fantastic selection! Dropping Yuvraj is a good thing. He needs to prove his worth by playing in the Domestic matches. Dropping Yusuf Pathan is the best thing. He never proved his stature in the Intl matches. It seems that he doesn't belong to that elite category. Praveen Kumar can be lethal in the Sri Lankan conditions. Ashwin & Ravindra Jadeja will fight out the allrounder's slot with 7th batsman Rohith Sharma (#7). There are only 7 specialist batsmen. My playing XI would be: Sehwag, Gambhir, Raina, Kohli, Dhoni, Saurabh Tiwary, Ravindra Jadeja/Rohith Sharma, Harbhajan, Praveen Kumar, Zaheer, Nehra/Pragyan Ohja. If Bhajji doesn't able to take wickets in 2 games, he should be swapped with Pragyan Ohja. Bye Bye Dinesh Karthik! But, I know we'll see you soon in the Intl matches ;)

This could be the best possible team for Asia Cup. BCCI has done great job. Now it's all depends upon players who have have got their chance to prove their worth. The decision of droping Yuvi is good one. An icon players also need proper treatment if their forgetting their basics and code of the game. Regarding Pathan, He is waist product n nothing better than a slogger ... instead of him a regular batsman should be given chance.

  • Prad81_viji84 on June 7, 2010, 14:07 GMT

Was there any participation of Dhoni in selecting the team? I still feel the bowling is not up to international standard. We could have included Irfan. Good to see Yusuf & Yuvraj taken out. I think one more candidate need to be taken out RAVINDRA JADEJA. His replacement should have been Robin Uthappa/ Irfan Pathan.

Great to hear about the opportunity for Tiwary - he is a star for the future. But will he get an opportunity in the final XI with so many batsmen around? May be his statemate captain will find a way to fit him in! It would have been useful to try an always fit fast bowler Pradeep Sangwan in place of the injury prone Nehra. In fact all the 3 front line fast men have a long injury history!

  • Mahatma_of_Great_Britain on June 7, 2010, 13:56 GMT

It's no point swamping the whole team with debutant and equally it's ludicrous that these debutant aren't given a game or two (even if they're a part of 15-men squad).

There's no shortage of cricketing talent in India. Being able to showcase their talent in front of millions of viewers is every new player's dream come true, if only Indian selectors were more responsible in doing the job that they're paid to do.

  • Mahatma_of_Great_Britain on June 7, 2010, 13:55 GMT

Looks rather promising team this time around. If only BCCI's selector had realised when selecting team for Zimbabwe tour that it's no good having all amateurs playing at once in a given match (as it happened in 1st match against Zimbabwe whereby 3 leading bowlers making their internatinal debut)!

It's always a good idea to have 1 or 2 new batsmen/bowlers playing alongside and around seniors. MS Dhoni ought to realise that the best way to check the new players is to drop 1 or 2 senior batsmen/bowler for a match or two (even if they're fit enough) and replace them with a debutant (senior players can also get enough rest between matches, this way), as these new players are ONLY given a chance when senior player's injured, etc. and then never to be heard of again (as it happened with Ojha who's not been given enough chances or Abhishek Nayar).

  • on June 7, 2010, 13:50 GMT

Pathan shouldn't dropped! If jadeja & pathan bowled 15over,why they include 3spinner? Vajji is enough, with jadeja and pathan. Aswin would be back up in squad!

  • rahulppppp on June 7, 2010, 13:50 GMT

i think tendulker will reteire next year after the world cup. the thurst towards the playing cricket gone down because of age. now he may have little interest only in holding world cup and retain the records in test match. that is playing for self actualisation. i think that he will play for mumbai indians in champions trophy(2010) and ipl(2011). ipl should be banned

  • Kangroos.Proteas.Monkeys.Lions on June 7, 2010, 13:50 GMT

It is nice to know that Saurabh Tiwary's selection is based on Ranji Trophy and not just IPL outing. I am sure that India has much more promsing talent than is showcased during IPL. Indian Board should ensure that teams are selected at the state level through transparent procedures. Talent hunt should be done at the state level and players from U-19 fold(Virat, Raina, Rohit, Irfan etc.) and A-team fold(Dhoni etc) have been much more successful in making their mark on international level. So these resources should be adequately employed. That is the only way India for India to reinforce the existing bench strength. One thing to note that batting was still strong just bowling and fielding let India down. Therefore, Indian Board can work on talent hunt project for bowlers. After all it should be just the talent and not the purchi that should prevail.

  • sandy_bangalore on June 7, 2010, 13:49 GMT

I think this is an excellent squad chosen by the selectors. It looks well covered in every department, esp batting. India had a bad couple of months, thanks to fatigue and now our boys are ready to take on the world again, totally refreshed! India should walk away with the Asia cup, looking at the strengths of the other teams like SL,Pakistan and Bangladesh. Its time for India to rise up the rankings, to the spot that they truly belong, No 1!

a good selection indeed. the best have been included. would have been happy has irfan been included. he deserves a comeback and is only decent fast bowling allrounder around. hope yuvi learns his mistakes and returns back with form. yuvi in flow is unbeatable. and for those who ll complain of bias well ashwin deserves a place for his performance in last match against sl and ojha is by far second best spinner after bhajji. with viru, gauti, ms, raina picking themselves and rohith n kohli presenting a good case they have got in in batting. jadeja has performed decently with both bat and ball. zak, nehra nad bhajji ld walk in any indian odi side of today and praveen is good choice too. dinda might have been replaced by irfan but then selectors are supposed to know better than anyone as who to play and who not. all the best Team India.

  • on June 7, 2010, 13:19 GMT

What about Robbin Uthappa, isn't he fit? And Irfan Pathan instead of Ashok Dinda or Ravindra Jadeja would have been perfect.

  • satyasainvs on June 7, 2010, 13:18 GMT

Atlast selection committee selected balance team. But out of 15 should see how many are fully fit to play. I was expected the same selection except fast bowler allrounder Irfan Pathan should have selected instead of Ashish Nehra. Srilankan pitches most likely similar to Indian pitches. My choice to be 2 genuine fast bowlers(zaheer and praveen), genuine spinner (singh), spinner allrouner (jadega or ashwin), fast bowler allrounder (Irfan). 5 regular batsman(shewag, gambhir, raina, kohli, rohit) and 1 keeper (dhoni) will be perfect balance. I bit pity and expected Irfan will be in the team. But atleast happy that yuvraj out of the team. From here onwards selection committee should selected based on their consistent performance and fitness instead of their names. Hope for the best.

  • Icyman on June 7, 2010, 13:17 GMT

It looks strong with the return of Sehwag, Dhoni and Gambhir. However, what is a certain Ravinder Jadeja still doing in the team ? Has he gotten himself into some kind of a deal with the selectors that keeps him in the side ? And am happy for Tiwary. High time some one like him got a call. A notable exclusion seems to be that of S Badrinath. It seems the selectors have not really thought bout him

  • AJAYs_PyrotechniXX on June 7, 2010, 13:14 GMT

Ravindra jadeja retained?? This defies logic. Jadeja has proved he is as useless as Pathan but still they get different treatment. Tiwary is a god choice, he is the right guy to replace Yuvi. Bowling department looks good enuff...

Is this the first time 2 players from Jharkand have been selected to play for an Indian team?

    Consistent and good team selection.

  • mvashwinn on June 7, 2010, 13:09 GMT

I don't really understand that why they have selected 3 spinners when Jadeja & Harbajan is going to be a part of playing 11,we have seen 2 keepers played against Sri lanka, they have done the same mistake again by not picking another batsman or speed bowling all-rounder like Irfan or Pankaj Singh. On a whole batting looks bit inexperienced.Good Luck India hoping to win at least this series.

  • Sanyaal on June 7, 2010, 13:08 GMT

Might sound a good team. Good to see SAURABH TIWARY in. Still no IRFAN PATHAN. Lucky that Ravi Jadeja is still hanging around. I thought ISHANT SHARMA will get a go. Mixed reactions on the team. Hope they fare well. Selectors, there are players with names as IRFAN PATHAN, and ROBIN UTTHAPPA. Give them a nod!

Yuvraj dropped??????????????? because of fitness or poor form or Dhoni's politics? Even though he is not good form...just one innings is enough for him to win the matches and to be back to old Yuvraj...

  • connectfroze on June 7, 2010, 13:03 GMT

The team is not bad but still Pragyan ojha can be replaced with piyush and jadeja can be replaced with Irfan and how ashok dinda was retained in the team.. it is very shocking... in the last series he was played in all 4 matches and has taken only 3 wickets and struggled to take wickets upfront.. nice to see tiwary in the squad... as chika is telling about fielding.. still there is a concern in this team.. we have zah, ojha, dinda, nehra... who are very slow in the field... so still india are going to batting strength team..

Any way I wish all the best for the team ..... atleast don't disappoint this time around...

  • on June 7, 2010, 13:03 GMT

where d hell is Irfan Pathan...why r u ruining his career srikant....he is only potenial all rounder for our team.. give him some confidence & feel of international arena and he will show his worth again..

  • SachinIsTheGreatest on June 7, 2010, 13:01 GMT

4 Spinners and 4 Medium-pacers? What are they going on? A world-tour? Why was Irfan Pathan not picked as an all-rounder? On what basis do Ashwin and Jadeja get to keep their place?

  • sramesh_74 on June 7, 2010, 13:01 GMT

Finally!!! Hope Yuvraj gets the message. He is too good an ODI batsman to be sitting out. Pathan was never international quality. Jadeja should consider himself. If his ODI record had been as bad as his T20 record, he would have been left out. Ashwin should utilize this opportunity to send the right signals to the selectors.

A better balanced team. But the problem of the Indian team in south Africa and Zimbabwe was not potential but the mind set and the thinking. For some absurd reason they were in a negative frame of mind and were more concerned about preserving wickets and not scoring runs. The Indian batsmen have always been attacking batsmen but there in Africa they were more intent to defend." Bowling is weak" it's the general notation...... Score 350+ runs (and we all know atleast against Zimbabwe the Indian players are capable to do so) , and then see ... the same bowling attack will cause havoc. I hope in Asia Cup MSD will be able to change their thinking...... On the behalf of the whole country i want to say.... CHAK DE INDIA....

Where is Robin Uthappa Mr Krish?

  • geebob on June 7, 2010, 12:57 GMT

Amit Mishra has been dropped. Strange that Dinda was picked. Thought he got spanked during the Zim experiment

how you can leave yuvraj.. He is the mainstay of indian middle order from past 5 to 7 years.. only batsman who is among world top 10 run getter for consective 5 years.. based on IPL nd t20 perfomance u cant judge him in odi;s anyways hope this will give him more time to get fitter and aggressive to come good. Dinda is waste..not n international player.. yusuf cud have been peusrued.. nyway i cant imagin a perfact indian lineup without sachin as opener and yuvraj at middle...

Very Happy to see the squad.....Congrats for S Tiwari for getting maiden call up.... Its very nice to see yuvarj out of the team.... and yougster getting chances

  • NewYorkCricket on June 7, 2010, 12:55 GMT

Best team under the circumstances!! How does Ashok Dinda make the cut? What about Shreesanth and RP, but there has to be somebody from KolKata after Dada.

  • on June 7, 2010, 12:52 GMT

Contd. But his selection only came after his good performance in the IPL, another example that Jokers don't watch or listen to the Ranji performance. Moreover it also seems like he won't get any chance there as jokers also have to select players from zones...

  • on June 7, 2010, 12:48 GMT

At last No M Vijay in the squad. Good to see Saurabh Tiwary getting the nod. Hope he gets chance to play rather than warming the bench and serving drinks. Squad looks good and hope India wil win this Cupl

  • drake1234 on June 7, 2010, 12:47 GMT

sachin's absence is a big setback .. exclusion of yuvraj singh is ridiculous, since he is consistent in ODI's . Rest of team is just the same . still have to bear ravindra jadeja. anyways nice test for team India, can they won without..mastero

  • ns_krishnan on June 7, 2010, 12:47 GMT

Congratulations to the selectors for sending Yuvraj a message. Would have been nice if Tendulkar had been there, but it is his choice. Anyway it is yet another oppportuniyt for the youngsers. Hope someone comes good here.

  • Sunny-Bhai on June 7, 2010, 12:46 GMT

Well I guess these guys don't like Robin Uttapa. Wonder what is Ravinder Jadeja doing in here.
