Sri Lanka seamer Nuwan Kulasekara has been ruled out of the rest of the Bangladesh tour and the Asia Cup with a groin injury. He will be replaced by another seamer, Dhammika Prasad, who is expected to join the squad on Wednesday.

Kulasekara sustained the injury during the first ODI on Monday in Mirpur. He had bowled six overs for 38 runs in the match that Sri Lanka won by 13 runs. He is also in the World T20 squad, which will also be played in Bangladesh.

Thirty-year-old Prasad has played 12 ODIs and taken 18 wickets. He last played an ODI nearly two years ago, in March 2012, during the tri-series in Australia which also involved India. He has been among the wickets off late in first-class matches and picked up six wickets against England Lions in Pallekele.

Kulu is a good work horse, but this opens up an opportunity for another Sri Lankan. Surprised they went with Prasad though...

Should give a chance to youngster for remain 02 ODI with Bangladesh, if he got fail can replace Dammika for Asia cup.

  • Rambo-123 on February 20, 2014, 4:53 GMT

We can see his form today and decide..... he is a good all- rounder.

  • sudaththa on February 20, 2014, 3:29 GMT

He is superb!!! Acutely he is the general all-rounder of the side with anjelo.. Not thisara... He is got injured because he is doing 100./. Team. Not like Malinga and Thisara there are geting ready for the IPL And they will do there 100 ./. There ipl teams.. Sanath you should think about those accepts when you do selections...

    Y Prasad? where's Shaminda Eranga?

  • NextSana on February 19, 2014, 13:05 GMT

@Htc-Android What's your logic really mate? What if he picks up an injury in the first day of first test in England. Restricting him is not the answer. If he is not fit to play few consecutive matches he should stop playing cricket right away and start concentrating on fitness. I love Dammika Prasad but I think we should give a chance to Eranga or else Pradeep. Nuwan pradeep played really well against Indians too.

  • on February 19, 2014, 10:07 GMT

How about Pre Maharoof. He is in good form in domestic cricket,an all rounder with ODI experience played well for SL.

  • Udendra on February 19, 2014, 6:30 GMT

Prasad is known for his slogging rather than bowling. That's the truth.

32 years old replaced by 30 years old youngster! It can happen only in SL cricket!

Another Bad Selection...... Prasad good for tests but not ODI's He is very expensive bowler he will get 2 wickets of 70/80 specially against Ind or Pak. Why not Ishan Jayarathane good all rounder/Big hitter and has good slow ball and yorker. And Prasad 31 years old so he is nothing 4 future. I think Kula is thousand times better than Prasad. Not good replacement at all.

  • first_slip on February 19, 2014, 4:12 GMT

you know what, Prasad is much better bowler than Kulasekara these days, Kulasekara serving up pies to batsmen these days, blessing in disguise i would say

  • Big_Brother_of_Cricket on February 19, 2014, 3:27 GMT

Huge setback for SL. Hope he'll be ready by the T20 Worldcup. Kulasekara and Malinga are the pillars and also the only viable option for fast bowling in ODIs and T20s. For a long time there hasn't been any replacement for these two. Therefore, this will be a huge setback for SL.

  • on February 19, 2014, 3:15 GMT

He should be replaced by an all rounder.

  • pradeep_dealwis on February 19, 2014, 2:57 GMT

Lakmal should be rested because of the massive workload he has had over the past few months. Get him and Eranga ready for the England Tour.

  • on February 19, 2014, 2:23 GMT

Totally agreed. SL should play with Lakmal. He is a very good depth bowler as well. Prasanna should play in place of chandimal or Dilshan as to the present poor form.

  • on February 19, 2014, 1:04 GMT

im a bd fan.. bt SL might have to pay Kulas injury price on d 2nd odi. #respect for both teams

  • AneYako on February 19, 2014, 0:22 GMT

uhh please tell me Lakmal is still in Bangladesh, because he should get this opportunity

  • goldeneye075 on February 18, 2014, 21:22 GMT

What happened to "Thilina Tushara Mirando" ? Some time back he was leading the pace attack, and had an injury. But surly he must be fit by now.... Any one know what happened to him ? Has he fallen out of selectors radar ???

  • yohandf on February 18, 2014, 19:13 GMT

With thiss , i have couple of concerns . Kula has become injury prone (3 times within last 15 months ) . So SL has to rethink on him for 2015 WC plans. Perhaps not playing him for tests . Prasad has been tested in ODI s but proved expensive . Why him who is 31 now not a youngster ? SL should play Lakmal in next ODI & include Seekuge for Priyanjaan or Kithruwan ,

  • Htc-Android on February 18, 2014, 18:57 GMT

We need to keep Eranga fit for the English tour. If he picks up an injury during the Asia cup then that will be huge loss for us. Thats why he is not considered. I think Prasad is a good a inclusion when considering the fact that he can bat too. His ODI average is 27 means, he is not a bad bowler for this format.

  • SL_Boy on February 18, 2014, 17:53 GMT

Excellent... thanks Sana, not sending future bowlers ...

  • ashangamage on February 18, 2014, 17:50 GMT

very good choice...but what's wrong with shaminda eranga? he is very good bowler please don't restrict him for TEST.hope vimukthi will get chance in next game .please play vimukthi for mali and dhammika for kule...

  • YsaKaru on February 18, 2014, 16:54 GMT

may be a good replace.prasad now days in descent form.hopefully he will do a better job than kulasekara with the ball.

  • on February 18, 2014, 16:20 GMT

We need pace . I think nuwan Pradeep is the smart choice here guys

  • RuwanthaRatnayake on February 18, 2014, 16:19 GMT

Remember that Kule is not only a seamer, he is an all-rounder so has to be replaced by an all-rounder. Compared to recent matches Dhammika is in form so it is fair to give him a chance. so in case we have another all-rounder who is much capable with balling. sometimes its not only wickets win matches but also not giving runs.

  • padmal on February 18, 2014, 16:11 GMT

Prasad can be handy in bangla conditions. He is quick and can be lethal too. Handy with the bat also. Prasad played a vital role in Aus conditions two years back..Good choice,...

  • Lakpj on February 18, 2014, 16:10 GMT

Even though Prasad is called the chances are that Lakmal will play in the 11, Prasad has performed very well in the domestic season so can't see any fault in his call up, but it would have been good if a younger fast bowler was given the preference

  • vishwa1111 on February 18, 2014, 16:03 GMT

Prasad!? why on earth would he be the one called in...should have been Nuwan Pradeep. We will miss Kula a lot in the Asia Cup but hopefully he recovers well and is ready for the T20 world cup.
