Injured Shakib sidelined for up to four weeks

Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh allrounder, is likely to miss the beginning of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League with a hairline fracture to his thumb, which could put him out of cricket for three to four weeks.

Shakib had met with the national coach Shane Jurgensen upon his return to Dhaka from his stint at the Caribbean Premier League, and was taken for X-rays after his thumb was bandaged. BCB physician Monirul Amin said Shakib had picked up the injury while training with the Barbados Tridents and will be sidelined until mid-September.

The Dhaka Premier League, after several postponements, is scheduled to begin on September 3 and the first-of-its-kind "player by choice" auctions for the tournament took place last Friday, where Shakib was recruited by Kalabagan Krira Chakra.

Shakib has been struggling with injury over the course of the last season. He had to bowl 97 overs during the Tests against West Indies in November, 52 of them coming in the same innings. The stress left him with exertional compartment syndrome to his shin and in February, he was ruled out of Bangladesh's tour of Sri Lanka to undergo surgery to his right calf muscle. After recovery, Shakib returned to international cricket, albeit as a batsman, for the Tests against Zimbabwe and eased into his role as a bowler for the limited-over series that followed.

Shakib's recovery is crucial not only for Kalabagan Krira Chakra, who finished ninth last season in the Dhaka Premier League, but also for Bangladesh as they will host New Zealand for two Tests, three ODIs and a Twenty20 in October.

What would i say that Shakib stay away from national side and prepare yourself for IPL,BPL,English t20,CPL and other t20 leagues???But make sure that dont get injured otherwise no t20 teams are going to recruit you.National team would not give you any money comparing to t20.Such a shame that every time SHAKIB plays t20 ,gets injured and misses the national side duty.Carry on.........

Basically he is destroying his fame and career. really feel sorry for him. he needs to neglect all these leagues and concentrate more on national duties.

Cricket will not be the same if the world number 1 all rounder is out with injury.

I like Shakib Al Hasan, absolute trooper for Bangladesh!

@Kawsar: True but then BCB is to be blamed because of the flat pitches they prepare. They should know that our bowlers literally has no chance on them. Really hope the New Zealand test series, they are wise enough to prepare spinning ones unlike the West Indies test series last year where it was all flat.

LOL why everyone blaming T20 games for his injury? Blame test cricket for him to bowl almost 100 overs per test.....T20 he bowls only 4 Overs, even the retire players like Muralitharan can still play T20

Tamim had the same problem if you guys can remember earlier in the year but quickly recovered. He needs and deserves the rest anyway since Bangladesh team going to be really busy in the next 2 years and we need him badly. I'm unhappy that BPL is still continuing after what happened. We should be playing International Cricket even against Ireland rather than pointless T20 games which has caused injuries to several players besides Shakib.

Played BPL, got Injured afterwards. Played CPL got injured afterwards. He shouldn't be allowed to play in BPL. WE DONT WANT TO MISS HIM IN WC. He should be allowed to play 3-4 matches only as it will be unfair if he his not allowed. Health should come first.
