Leicestershire County Cricket Club are pleased to announce that
Phillip DeFreitas has signed a 4 year contract with the County.
DeFreitas made his county debut for Leicestershire in 1985 before
joining Lancashire in 1994. He was capped by Leicestershire in
1986 and has played in 44 Test matches and 103 One-Day internationals
for England.
He was one of the 5 Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1992 and has
captured in excess of 1000 First Class wickets and scored 8000 runs.
Leicestershire Cricket Manager Jack Birkenshaw commented:
"Phillip is an experienced international player who has captured more
than 50 First Class wickets in each of 12 seasons. He provides us with
extra options not only as an experienced seam bowler but also as a
very dangerous batsman in our middle order. His experience in One
Day International cricket will greatly strengthen our One Day team and
I am delighted to welcome Phillip back to Grace Road."
Phillip DeFreitas commented:
"I am delighted to be rejoining Leicestershire. The Club has been one
of the most successful in the country in recent seasons twice capturing
the County Championship. I have great respect for both the Cricket
Manager Jack Birkenshaw and the new Captain Vince Wells and I look
forward to helping Leicestershire achieve continued success in all
competitions.
