Fast bowler Tendai Chatara is back in Zimbabwe's squad for the first time in nearly a year, after the selectors named him in the 15-man squad for the World Twenty20. Chatara, whose last international appearance came during the 2015 World Cup, suffered a fractured left leg in April 2015 and only returned to competitive cricket this January. Tinashe Panyangara, who missed the recent T20 series in Bangladesh with a back injury, is also back in their squad.

Taurai Muzarabani and Brian Vitori were the two seamers who missed out due to the return of Chatara and Panyangara. Also left out was the opening batsman Chamu Chibhabha, who was part of the squad during the Bangladesh tour but did not get an opportunity in the playing XI.

Chatara, Panyangara, Luke Jongwe and Neville Madziva make up the frontline seam options in the squad. Zimbabwe have picked three specialist spinners in Graeme Cremer, Tendai Chisoro and Wellington Masakadza, with back-up from the part-time bowling of Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza.

Zimbabwe squad for World T20: Hamilton Masakadza (capt), Sean Williams, Tendai Chatara, Wellington Masakadza, Tinashe Panyangara, Peter Moor, Elton Chigumbura, Sikandar Raza, Richmond Mutumbami (wk), Luke Jongwe, Tendai Chisoro, Neville Madziva, Malcolm Waller, Vusi Sibanda, Graeme Cremer; Donald Tiripano (stand-by)

zimbabwe shold consider solomon mire and coventy both are very good t20 batsmen..zim lineup would be masakadza, moor, waller, williams, raza, chigambura, coventry, mire, cremer, chatara, muzhange one of the best t20 line up

@BINUKANI, have you checked the stats for the T20 tournament? I'm a bit confused by your logic. How have Raza, Waller and Moor failed miserably compared to Zhuwayo? Moor averaged 44, Waller 35 and Raza 29 versus Zhuwayo who averaged 30, they fully merit their positions in the team, on top of that Zhuwayo is an opener, do you want to break up the Masakadza Sibanda pairing that has done so well recently? From what I believe Mire was messed around by ZC and like so many before him has turned his back on Zim cricket, can't blame the guy.

Surprised by the exclusion of Zhuwao. He played excellently in the recently concluded domestic T20 tournament. The selectors are doing injustice to players like Zhuwao who excelled when most of the fancied players like Raza, Waller, Moore etc. failed miserably. However those miserable are in the team and standout performer is out of team. what was the purpose of conducting T20 tournament just before this world cup? Is it just to create frustration the minds of the players? and is there any news about Solomon mire?. why he is not playing in domestic tournament?

Surprised by Ervine non selection as he is one of Zim's true international standard batsmen and even if he weren't in the starting XI he would certainly strengthen the squad. The starting XI will only need 2 out and out seamers given conditions in India which will be Panyangara and Chatara ( who I hope is fit enough for this tournament after being out for so long ) My XI Masakadza, Sibanda, Williams, Chigumbura, Waller, Moor, Raza, Cremer, Chisoro, Panyangara, Chatara.

I always have problems with the squad selections but this one is the best yet with only notable omissions being Ervine and Chibhabha (plus maybe Nyumbu). I think 4 seamers are not necessary especially in India and the reserve player is also a seamer (Tiripano) which is not necessary. Spin is the key for Zim so maybe Madziva should have been relegated for Ervine or Chibhabha. I think Chigumbura's form has been terrible but it was hard to drop him in probably his best format so hopefully form comes back. I also agree with most that in the shortest format Moor is the better wicketkeeper choice ahead of Mutumbami. Raza and Williams' spin will help which means it will be one definite seamers (Chatara and Panyangara) and one definite spinner (Cremer) then a fight between Chisoro, Madziva, Jongwe and Masakadza W depending on the conditions.

    1.Masakadza 2.Sibanda 3.Raza 4.Waller 5.Williams 6.Elton 7.Moor 8.Cremer 9.Chisoro/Wellington/Madziva/Jongwe 10.Panyangara 11. Chatara.

A very good selection, The final 11 Should depend on pitch. Vusi,Hami,Williams, Mutumbami,Waller,Raza,Chigu,Jongwe/Chisoro ,Cremer, Panyangara ,Chatara. However I thought an extra batsman could have been picked instead of three spinners knowing that Raza and Williams can play spin maybe Chibhabha for Wellington. But overally Zim are strong they should play to their strength. Chatara and Panyangara obviously makes a formidable attack.

If Ervine is left out due to poor form in recent domestic T20's, how come Chigu who not even played a single domestic match get into the squad? Shingi/Zhuwao would have been a better choice. Hope Panyangara, Chatara and Madzia flourish under Ntini's coaching.

Extremely surprising to see that Craig Ervine and Chibhabha do not find a place in the side - hard to explain !! Anyways, glad to see Chatara back. Also, am surprised why Jongwe gets picked regularly - he simply leaks runs .. and there are enough all rounders in the side. Shingirai Masakadza or Tawanda Mupariwa would have been better picks than him any day.
