Chandrasekhar sacked as Tamil Nadu coach

ESPNcricinfo staff

VB Chandrasekhar, the former India opener, has been axed as Tamil Nadu coach less than a year after taking charge. Chandrasekhar took over in July, but a disappointing run of results has led to his sacking.

Tamil Nadu are traditionally one of the stronger sides on the domestic circuit, but finished seventh in their group in the league phase of the Ranji Trophy and failed to progress from the zonal stage of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Tamil Nadu still have one tournament before the season closes, the Syed Mustaq Ali Twenty20 competition.

This was Chandrasekhar's first stint as coach of a state side. He played most of his cricket with Tamil Nadu and scored 4999 runs from 81 first-class matches in a 13-year career which ended in 1998. He has also served on the national and state selection panels.

There are few unnoticed fast bowlers are playing in UCC also in division league such as Senthilnathan, Kiran Kashyap, Rohit....

TN Poor run in the recently concluded Ranji games were due to their non commitment among the team mates. I think only DK has performed exceptionally among all players. He is not a great leader as he is not able to bring along players to fight. I felt Lakshmipathy was a great leader as he is a spent force by now. His captaincy is needed by the TN team...Moreover, sacking VB is a good idea and bring in ABDUL JABBAR , the best batting coach i have played under and also ROBIN SINGH has head consultant.

TN has been in the good team making now with baba and mukund in the reckoning, DK coming back to rythum should have waited for atleast one more season before this unfortunate handling of my fav VB.. Not fair at all.

VB alwyas had love hate relationship with TNCA and now paid the price. Why not Robin Singh or WV Raman (again)? TN team often lacks killer instinct. We keep producing some stars here and there and to have Vijay, Ashwin in Indian team and Mukund in fringe, Baba maturing and DK growing in confidence there is certainly a good team. But just not able to kick it! Badri's loss of form is a worry, he now is just playing to keep the contract as his India dreams are over. We lack big time in pace department, wonder what happened to Kaushik, and Ganapathy Vignesh? Yo is there and thereabouts and Balaji is spent force! The chop and change of captaincy also doesnt help.

If the same policy is to be followed, Duncan Fletcher must have been fired months back for India. I challenge TNCA to hire the greatest coach in the world (if coach is the deciding factor) and prove that TN can become Ranji champions next year ! IMO, the #1 criteria in making a strong team is the impartial selection processes. Secondly there should be sophisticated training camps with all kinds of pitches, equipment, trainers, etc., including psychological training. Of course the most important requirement is that the players themselves must aspire & train with vigor for long hours every day.

TN has never proved to be a good Ranji team in the history of Ranji Trophy. How many times they have reached semi final, and finals of Ranji Trophy. So sacking a first timer coach after another poor performance is really uncalled for.

TN has the weakest bowling attack this year and no way they could have won matches with 2nd grade bowlers..Sacking the coach when having weak bolwers in unwanted..
