The PCB's Cricket Committee has extended Saeed Ajmal's remedial work under former spinner Saqlain Mushtaq by 15 days. Saqlain had signed a one-month contract with the PCB, ending on October 24, to help Ajmal work on his action. Ajmal will then head to England for an independent biomechanical assessment, and based on the results he can apply to the ICC for an official reassessment.
"Ajmal has been tested on the 2D equipment at the NCA, where he has [shown] significant improvement," PCB Cricket Committee chairman Shakil Sheikh said. "After the remedial work is complete, he shall be tested in a state of the art lab with 3D facility."
The committee, which was joined by other board members on Wednesday, discussed the improvements in Ajmal's action so far. The meeting was also attended by PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan and former interim chairman Najam Sethi on a special invite.
Ajmal was suspended from bowling in international cricket by the ICC in September after which he has been working with Saqlain at the NCA in Lahore. The PCB had said earlier this month that they were hopeful of having Ajmal back in time for the World Cup next year. Saqlain had also said recently that there was a "realistic chance" of Ajmal returning to international cricket with a legitimate action, and that he was optimistic about the bowler clearing the ICC test.
