An eighth-wicket stand of 47 between Shaun Marsh and Brett Dorey edged Western Australia to their first Pura Cup outright win of the season despite a stunning burst from Andy Bichel. Bichel charged Queensland, who were defending a second-innings lead of 219, back into the match with three wickets in seven balls as the visitors fell to 6 for 130.
However, Marsh, the son of the former Australia batsman and coach Geoff Marsh, calmed the situation with Ryan Campbell's 18 and then Dorey, who helped seal the first-innings points on day three, frustrated the Bulls again with an unbeaten 22. Marsh hit eight fours in his 44 and ended the state's run of four losses in a row with the three-wicket victory.
Clinton Heron set up the chase with 54 but he was the third of Bichel's wickets after he removed Damien Martyn and Adam Voges to give Queensland hope. Bichel could not force any further breakthroughs and finished with 3 for 65 while Michael Kasprowicz picked up nine wickets for the match after adding Marcus North for 28.
The Warriors moved to equal last with Tasmania on eight points while the Bulls are one spot ahead on 10. New South Wales lead the competition on 20 after three outright wins and a first-innings success in five matches.
