West Indies' good work on the first two days of the first Test in Colombo was tarnished a touch in the final hour, as they slumped to 17 for 3 in their second innings, a lead of 75. Afterwards, the fast-bowling heroes of each team, Chaminda Vaas and Jermaine Lawson, spoke to the media.

Chaminda Vaas

On his bowling
I bowled well in the first innings but I didn't put the ball in the right spot. But I concentrated on the basics in the second innings, bowling the right line and length, and regained my rhythm. I'm now very happy with my bowling.

On the match situation
We have to bowl really well now in the second innings and get them out for under 150. If we do that we will have a good chance of winning

On the top-order's performance
The pitch is alright but we didn't bat well. The top order are playing for the first time in a while and they also need to get their rhythm. Hopefully, they will bat better in the second innings. We are usually relying on the top order but there are days when the lower order need to get runs

On his promotion to the No. 7 position
The No. 7 spot is a very important position for the team and after being given the chance I put my head down to get some runs for the team. I have been working hard on my batting and I want to contribute not just as a bowler but also as a batsman. I need to keep improving my batting but I think the No. 7 position is ideal for me in Test cricket.

Jermaine Lawson

On the pace of his bowling (touching 94mph)
I have not been thinking too much about the pace but have been focusing on getting the ball in the right areas. I have been out of cricket for a long while but I am feeling pretty happy about things at the moment. To come back in this match and take four wickets was a good achievement.

On the match situation
At this point, we have some batters to come and the captain is there and we are just looking for a good total. It would be good to leave them chasing something like 300 but whatever we get we will just have to go out there and defend it.
