15-Apr-2010
At Centurion, May 7, 2009 (floodlit). Chennai Super Kings won by 12 runs (D/L method). Toss: Chennai Super Kings. Chennai Super Kings 185-3 (18 overs) (M. L. Hayden 89, S. K. Raina 32, M. S. Dhoni 56*); Kings XI Punjab 174-3 (18 overs) (S. M. Katich 50, Yuvraj Singh 58*, D. P. M. D. Jayawardene 44*). Chennai Super Kings 2 pts. Man of the Match: M. L. Hayden.
A brief rain interruption early in Chennai's innings reduced this to a 18-overs match: Punjab's target was revised upwards slightly to 187. Hayden, who hit eight fours and six sixes from 58 balls, powered his side to a big total, but Jayawardene and Yuvraj Singh shared an unbroken partnership of 90, and looked set to clinch victory before Raina, bowling the 15th and 17th overs, conceded only eight runs (plus two leg-byes). That left Punjab needing an unlikely 25 from Lakshmipathy Balaji's final over of the match.
